Chapter 2390: Ghostly Lady.
All of these little advantages, coupled with the fact that she was stationed at the back of the army, were why she was able to escape that devastating attack.
If given a choice, she doesn’t want to experience that again. If her opinion counted, she would have made everyone retreat now.
But her opinion doesn’t count, and the church is not yet willing to give up. So she has to show up for duty and hope that it won’t be her last time to do so.
Many people in the camp were like her. They were realistic people who felt fear for their lives.
It was a normal reaction for them to be afraid after witnessing people being burned alive without any resistance. It was even more reasonable to want to quit while they can after barely surviving the process of being burned alive.
But despite how normal and reasonable this reaction was, the people who felt it were in the minority in the camp. There were more people still willing to fight after witnessing the horror of a legendary noble.
These people were willing to fight even if it would mean their death. It is because they are sure that their deaths would not go unpunished.
These people willing to fight are the main reason the remnants of the Church of Justice haven’t given up yet. They, like Isaac, were waiting for salvation or help to come from their headquarters.
They had to wait for more than ten days, but their wait wasn’t in vain. Salvation did come, and it came in the form of an albino woman.
The woman was so pale that she was ghostly. In fact, her skin color was no longer white because her skin was translucent.
Her hair was also translucent. It looked like she would fade away at the slightest gust of wind. But her eyes told a much different story.
Her eyes were bright and golden. In the darkness of the tenebrium world, her eyes looked like twin stars from afar.
She flew in the air across the world until she arrived at the border of the kingdom of Wessex. She had come alone, but when everyone saw her, they felt hope for justice.
The help that they had been waiting for for nine days was a single person. But the sight of her floating in the air invigorated the remnants of the church of justice because only legends can fly.
Only those who could use spirit sight could tell that she was more than a legend. But no one below the level of a legend could use spirit sight on her because she was wearing a cloak to hide her power.
She wasn’t wearing the cloak to hide her identity. She was wearing it to protect the weak because the knowledge gained from using spirit sight on her came at a heavy price.
The price is something that weaklings can hardly bear. This is something that has been proven many times in the past.
In the past, the eyes of every epic godclad that used spirit sight on her began to bleed. Some even fainted.
The consequences for those who weren’t epic godclads were worse. The mildest injury was going blind forever. The most severe injury was having their souls shattered and dying there and then.
The people who only went blind and those who died were in the minority. Most of the normal godclads who tried to gaze on the true form of this ghostly woman became blind and also lost control, which led to mutation.
The cloak she was wearing wasn’t a divine artifact. It was an item enhanced by mages by imbuing it with a formation.
The formation on the cloak hides her power and seals her presence. It does the job of protecting weaklings from seeing what they shouldn’t see while also hiding her from those who would like to know where she is all the time.
After appearing above the camp, she examined everyone and saw that they were in a pitiful state.
She said to them, "Peace be unto you, my brethren."
They bowed and greeted her in return by saying, "Peace be onto you too."
Then both sides signed and said, "Praise be to the god of justice, the protector of order, and the fighter for the innocent."
After they were done with the ritual, she said to them, "I have come for three reasons. The first reason is to commend you for your duty and sacrifice. By order of the god of justice, you shall be rewarded heavily both in life and in death."
This news lifted up their spirits. Even the most despondent people perked up at the mention of reward.
As for those who didn’t care for material things, they were happy to hear that their effort was noticed by the god of justice. But there was more news to come that would lift their spirits.
She gave them news to digest the first news. Then she continued speaking.
"The second reason I was sent is to seek justice for you.
After saying so, she took out something from within her cloak. What she brought out was a golden sheet of paper.
When everyone saw the golden sheet of paper, they realized what she meant by seeking justice for them. They were so moved that many of them fell to the ground and began to weep.
They were crying for joy. A reward was good to have, but seeking justice for all the sacrifice that had been made was better.
After all, only the living could enjoy material benefits. The people that had died also deserved to get something that proved that they hadn’t fought and died in vain.
This reward wasn’t only for them. It was for every judge still alive too.
Thanks to this reward, every judge will know that their God will always seek justice for them. If they know this, they will be more willing to fight and die for their church.
