Chapter 2391: For Justice.

The appearance of the golden paper filled them with joy. So even though the golden paper was too bright to look at and was too heavy to be around, everyone was happy to see it and be close to it.

The ghostly lady took the golden paper and looked at it. There was only one word on it. That word was "JUSTICE."

She took the paper and said, "It has been willed by the god of justice. I come here to enforce his will and bring it to pass."

After saying that, she tore the golden paper in half. But before the paper was torn, it caught fire and began to burn.

The fire lasted for a few seconds before the golden paper was burned to ashes. During that time, everyone who had killed a judge or a lamp bearer burst into flames and was burned alive.

It didn’t matter where they were. The fire took all of them and burned them to ashes.

Even those who killed judges and lamp bearers in one way or another in the past were not spared by this retribution.

There was no limit of time on the punishment. The only limit was on space. So everyone who had killed a judge in Wessex turned into ashes together with the golden paper.

The nobles of the kingdom of Wessex had thought they were victorious. But this single move turned the tides of the war.

Tens of thousands of godclads caught fire and died in the span of a few seconds. It didn’t matter how strong they were. They all died. This kind of unreasonable mass death dealt a devastating blow to the kingdom of Wessex.

It was already difficult to convince people to join the fight against the Church of Justice in the past. Mortals could be forced or enticed or fooled into joining the fight, but no legend wanted to have any hand in the killing of lamp bearers and judges.

The only legend who joined the fight and wiped out most of the armies of the Church of Justice was an old legendary noble that was about to die. He felt that he didn’t have much to live for, so he decided to go out with a bang.

He did go out with a bang. Even though he was burning, he still laughed because he felt that he had won. After all, he killed thousands and even tens of thousands of justice. The only thing that he lost was the less than one decade of life that he had left.

But even though this legend was happy with the punishment, the people who witnessed his death didn’t feel happy at all. All they felt was dread.

The death of that noble and tens of thousands of powerful people reminded the legends why they didn’t want to join the war and even reinforced their stubbornness not to join it.

As for the epic godclads and normal godclads that were not burned, they too decided not to fight anymore.

So more than just the loss of manpower through the death of tens of thousands of capable people, the kingdom of Wessex also lost manpower through the people who quit the war and deserted the army.

In fact, more manpower was lost from quitting than the amount that was lost by those who died. With this one move, the kingdom of Wessex has no one willing to fight for them anymore.

This is usually how the church of justice wins their war. They either fight fair and square and win, or in case they are outnumbered and can’t win, they will punish everyone who killed one of them in the past.

The only kingdoms that have been able to resist this move and continue fighting are those that have the backing of a god. So it is clear that unless the kingdom of Wessex has a god to support them, they will surely lose this war.

Commander Isaac became invigorated just thinking about this. His withered spirit began to grow, and his mood soared into the sky. He felt that achieving justice was within reach.

He clenched his fist in excitement and said, "Now we can destroy their resistance and bring peace to this wayward place."

He already knew that this was going to happen when he didn’t receive legendary reinforcement from the Church of Justice despite asking for it so many times.

He knew that the church was waiting for the kingdom of Wessex to kill enough judges before they swooped in with a trump card that would make their enemies regret fighting them.

He didn’t like this because it meant that a lot of people would die. But now that their deaths have been accounted for and made to have meaning, he is ready to return to the battlefield and claim victory.

But before he could call for their return to the battlefield, the ghostly lady said to him and everyone else, "This delivery of justice for the effort and sacrifice of both the living and dead marks the end of your service. You are all to return home."

Commander Isaac thought that he had misheard, so he asked in confusion, "What?"

His voice was so loud that it drew attention from everyone around. Even the ghostly lady glanced at him briefly before addressing everyone.

She said, "I said that your duty ends here. You are to return home to the kingdom of justice because this war cannot be fought by mortals anymore."

"You have done your best, and you have done well. But from here on out, this war has become a battle of the gods. You are no longer needed for now."

"If the day comes when you are needed, you will be called upon. But for now, you are to return."

Her announcement caused different kinds of emotions and reactions for everyone. Many people sighed in relief when they heard that they could go home. But there were some who felt disappointed that they couldn’t keep fighting.
