Chapter 2389: Strong Mentally And Physically.

Scenes of his fellow soldiers burning flashed before his eyes. He heard their screams and perceived the smell of burning flesh.

The air was saturated with smoke the and the smell of burning flesh. His lungs choked on that smell and made it difficult for him to breathe.

He remembered that his eyes couldn’t see clearly so he smashed into someone. That person was burning and running around screaming when he collided with them.

The force of his collision had caused them to scatter. The person who was burning stopped screaming immediately he smashed onto them. Even so, they were still burning.

That person and many others burned until the only thing left of them was ashes and soot. Of course, there is still the memory of them.

Those memories were torturing him now. He can hear the screams of pain and the abrupt end to those screams when he smashed into them in his attempt to escape.

He can also hear the sound of his feet stepping onto burning people and crushing them. It was as if he were there right now. The feeling was overwhelming.

He hadn’t cared about the people he was killing back then. He had only cared about escaping. But now that he has escaped, he has to reflect on his actions.

The worst part is that he can’t feel bad too much about what he did because his actions might have killed some of them and put an end to their misery.

So his selfish actions and their consequences might actually be a good thing. This fact dealt a greater blow to his mind than ever before.

His vision shook and swayed as he tried to deal with the absurdity of everything he had experienced. He felt like he might faint if he kept dwelling on it. But he couldn’t stop thinking about it.

Fortunately, the lady nearby drew him out of his thoughts by speaking to him.

She spoke softly to console him, "Don’t worry, we can still win. Everyone that died will be avenged."

He slowly refocused on the world and on her. Then he said, "I know. But it doesn’t mean that I should be fine with what has happened."

She encouraged him again, "If it is any consolation, they will be in the kingdom of God. They will be free from suffering and can live forever in the embrace of God."

"You, on the other hand, will have to continue living in this mundane world and experience pain. So you have to remain strong both physically and mentally."

He sighed and said, "Thanks."

She smiled sweetly and said, "I am glad that I was of help to you."

Then she said, "I will leave you to your watch. I need to rest. Not everyone has an iron will and body like yours."

She was teasing him, which amused him.

He chuckled and said to her, "You may go. I’ll stand guard over everyone. You can rest assured."

She nodded and left him to rest.

She actually needed to rest. She looked fine on the outside, but she was inwardly empty physically and spiritually.

She had used up all of her life energy and spiritual energy in order to heal her injuries. Then she had to rush over to the camp of the church of justice as soon as she was able to.

Her injuries had been so severe that even her bones had been burned and her brain had been cooked. Her cooked brain was perhaps the worst part of her injuries.

A single command had turned her heart, bone marrow, and blood vessels into sources of fire. This had immediately caused devastating damage to her lungs, bones, muscles, and internal organs.

But the damage to her brain was the most impactful one because injuring the brain also affects the mind. A compromised mind means that it will be more difficult for the person with the injured brain to rectify the problem that caused the injury in the first place.

The pain from having one’s blood burn them from within alone was enough to cripple proper mental response to such an attack. It was because of the pain that many people fell to the ground and rolled around trying to put out the fire when they should have run for their lives.

The pain had clouded their minds and doomed them. Even if they could ignore their pain and see past it, the fact that their ears and eyes had also been burned by the burning blood increased the difficulty of escaping.

So even if some soldiers had a high pain tolerance and were determined to run, without their eyes to see, escaping would be a dream.

To top things off, even if they could somehow see, a brain that was boiling alive would not be able to process what the eyes could see. So those soldiers had been burned alive in a world of total darkness.

As for her, she was able to escape because she had a powerful soul, three divine pieces of flesh in her body to protect her, and had learned the spiritual sight technique.

The three divine pieces of flesh in her body helped her body resist the burning flames better so her eyes didn’t burn up quickly.

The spiritual sight technique meant that she didn’t need light and completely intact eyes to see. All she needed to see was a faint direction for escaping, which was what the spiritual sight would have provided even if she had intact sight.

The spiritual sight technique only sees spirituality, not light and colors. So it didn’t need her brain to be intact to use. Her spirit could use it through a barely functional brain and eye.

In fact, she could use the spiritual sight technique without her body. All she would need for that is a soul that can exist independent of her body.

Her soul wasn’t strong enough to live independent of her body yet. But fortunately, her body wasn’t completely gone yet.
