Well, she was a cat, after all.
After finishing breakfast, Black Bean flopped onto the bed, curled up, and quickly drifted off to sleep with soft little snores.
Cats can sleep fifteen to sixteen hours a day—cat girls probably weren’t much different.
Ning Chu sat nearby, watching the peacefully sleeping little cat girl. Her heart was full of worries, but her gaze was gentle.
Even though this was a parallel world, technically, every character from the story could call her “Mom.”
Including Wen Yang—he was practically her son.
With Black Bean asleep, Ning Chu no longer had to hide her tail under her skirt. She let it slip through the slit at the back of her nightgown and looped it around to the front, where she looked down at it.
"Hmm, compared to Lily’s tail, it’s not as full..."
"But it’s already so... suggestive."
The heart-shaped tip of the tail was a soft pink—no matter how she looked at it, it just oozed seductiveness.Probably just needed one more round of plot-breaking or a little more development time for it to fully grow.
Ning Chu gently stroked the tail. Without being aroused, touching it didn’t produce any sensation at all.
It was just... an extra accessory, and it felt kind of weird.
Outside, the rain started to pour harder.
Worried about Wen Yang delivering food in this weather, she sat by the window, idly stroking her tail with one hand, resting her cheek in the other, and gazing out at the gray, misty world.
It wasn’t until after 9 o'clock that Ning Chu finally dialed her mother’s number.
She had waited so she wouldn’t wake her mom up too early.
"Hello?"
Sure enough, even though it was already after nine, her mother’s lazy tone made it obvious she had just woken up.
"Mom, still in bed?"
"Just got up~" her mother yawned, teasing, "What brings you to call today? You short on cash?"
"Mm... yeah, a bit."
Her mom sighed in mock frustration:
"You only ever call when you need money. I’ll transfer you 1,500 later—don’t forget to accept it."
"Thanks~"
"By the way, got a boyfriend yet?"
"......"
Who asks their kid about boyfriends right after finding out their son turned into a daughter?!
"Holding back all the time isn’t good for you, you know~" her mom teased.
"Just find someone decent. It’s not like you have to marry them for life."
Ning Chu wasn’t quite able to accept these succubus philosophies, but she still gave a vague response.
While her mom didn’t allow her to be promiscuous, she was super casual when it came to relationships.
"If things really get rough..." her mom hesitated for a moment, "just buy some toys."
"......"
Ning Chu’s face turned crimson. She lowered her head and fiddled nervously with the tip of her tail, completely at a loss for words.
"You're not calling just for money, right?"
"No, Mom..."
Now that she was getting to the real reason, she felt a surge of nerves. Hesitating, she asked carefully,
"Would you... mind having another daughter?"
"Huh?" her mom was startled. Then her voice shot up, panicked and shrill:
"Your brother turned into a girl too?!"
"No, no! Absolutely not!" Ning Chu quickly denied it.
"Whew, scared me for a second."
Once the misunderstanding was cleared up, Ning Chu let out a breath of relief—
But just then, a sweet and syrupy voice called from behind her:
"Mom! Come play with me!"
"!!!"
Ning Chu flinched, snapping her head around.
At the end of the bed sat the little cat girl in a duck-sit position, her tail lazily swaying behind her as she stared at Ning Chu with eager eyes.
When did you wake up?!
She quickly lowered her voice, holding the phone away as she scolded:
"How many times do I have to tell you?! Call me sister!"
"Aww~"
"Let me finish this call first."
Ning Chu wasn’t sure if her mom had heard what Black Bean just shouted. Feeling uneasy, she put the phone back to her ear and tried to explain, her voice guilty:
"Mom... I kind of picked up a homeless little girl."
There was silence on the other end.
Her mother seemed stunned and didn’t say a word for a long time.
What kind of situation is this...?
She’d left home for school in late August, and now, in November, she was back—not only as a girl but with a daughter who could talk?
No matter how you tried to explain that timeline, it made no sense.
With no response coming, Ning Chu forced herself to continue:
"So, um... I was thinking, maybe I could bring her home, and you could help take care of her?"
She knew the request was kind of outrageous. After all, this was her own mess.
She never should've written that spicy short story! If she hadn't, none of this would be happening!
Both mother and daughter fell silent again.
Ning Chu anxiously waited for her mom’s response, head down, nervously thinking through her options in case her mom said no.
She’d already been skipping her easy classes to make time for Black Bean, plus working part-time.
She also needed to finish the start of her new novel and send it to her editor by Monday.
She was still just a kid herself! Why did she already have to play mom?!
Finally, her mother spoke, cautiously:
"You’re not hiding anything from me, right? Like... you were secretly a girl all through high school?"
She was seriously wondering if her son had already been a daughter back then—and had secretly had a daughter?
But even then, the logic didn’t quite check out.
"Of course not..."
Just then, Black Bean scooted over, curling up in Ning Chu’s lap and staring up at her with wide, curious eyes.
Then her gaze was caught by Ning Chu’s tail.
Just as she was about to grab it, Ning Chu quickly held her hand down and said to her mom,
"Here’s the thing... I picked up a stray cat, and somehow, for some reason, that cat turned into a cat girl."
At that point, she gave up on hiding anything—she left out why Black Bean had become a cat girl, but the rest she confessed honestly.
"That doesn’t make a lot of sense..."
"......" Ning Chu paused, then fully surrendered to the chaos:
"Just pretend I suddenly ended up with a 10-year-old daughter, okay? You're a grandma now! Happy?"
"Ah, now I get it~ So I’m a grandma, huh?"
"Mom, don’t tease me..." she groaned.
"So are you coming to pick her up, or should I take her over when I get the chance? Actually, never mind—she doesn’t have any ID, so she can’t even take a train."
Her mom thought for a moment, then replied,
"That’s fine, I’ll drive over to pick her up. I’ll register her under my household."
Maybe it was the leftover fantasy elements of this parallel world, but after the initial surprise, her mom didn’t seem all that shaken by the cat-to-cat girl transformation.
She adjusted pretty fast.
"I’ll come pick her up at the end of the month. You just take care of her for now."
"End of the month?"
"By then, your new ID should be ready too. I needed to come over around that time anyway."
"Mom, you’re abandoning me?!"
Black Bean, sitting on Ning Chu’s lap, tugged at her sleeve with a pitiful look in her big, teary eyes.
Ning Chu’s heart immediately softened. She instinctively replied in a gentle tone:
"No, sweetie~ We’re just sending you to grandma’s for a while..."
"Wait—no, to Sister other house."
She almost slipped up again.
Ning Chu rubbed Black Bean’s little head and continued discussing arrangements with her mom.
"I’ll add another 1,000 to your allowance this month..."
"That’s probably not necessary, right?"
"Don’t starve my precious granddaughter~"
Black Bean’s ears twitched at the sound coming from the phone speaker.
She tugged at Ning Chu’s sleeve again and announced:
"Hungry! I want meat!"
"Mom, I’m gonna take her to get some food now..."
She just had breakfast an hour ago! Why is she already hungry again?!
Ning Chu absentmindedly stroked Black Bean’s head a little more firmly. The little cat girl let out a contented purr from deep in her throat.
And there was still a whole month of this ahead...
