悲殇的秋千

Chapter 240

Since classes usually started at 8:20 a.m., Wen Yang had long gotten used to waking up early.

When he opened his eyes, it was just 7:30.

Yawning, he habitually glanced over at the empty bed across from him, only to find that the figure he often dreamed of wasn't there.

He scanned the dorm.

Zhang Shaoqing was still fast asleep, while Wang Jie had already woken up and was sitting on his bed playing on his phone.

Then Wen Yang picked up his own phone to check if Ning Chu had messaged him last night while he was sleeping.

Sure enough, there was a message...

“Bad news?”

Wen Yang froze for a second, suddenly feeling anxious. He quickly turned over and got out of bed, hurriedly putting on his clothes.

Skipping his usual morning routine, he threw on his shoes and prepared to leave.

“Heading out this early?”

Wang Jie peeked out from his bed and asked.

“Something urgent came up.”

“Something about Ning Chu?”

Even someone as dense as Wang Jie had started to pick up on the close relationship between Wen Yang and Ning Chu.

“Something like that. I gotta go.”

Before leaving, Wen Yang gave himself a quick once-over in the mirror. Seeing that everything looked fine, he dashed out of the dorm with a worried expression.

By the time he arrived at Ning Chu’s rental apartment, it was already 8:30 a.m.

Carrying a few bags of breakfast, he was filled with confusion.

His initial panic had somewhat faded. After all, Ning Chu hadn’t just said there was bad news—she’d also specifically told him to bring breakfast for three.

Three?

He felt a little uneasy as he pulled out the key from his pocket and unlocked the door.

The moment the door opened, he immediately looked inside and froze on the spot.

Ning Chu was calmly leaning against the headboard, playing on her phone.

Next to her, a young girl with black cat ears on her head was resting against her shoulder, peeking curiously at the phone screen.

The atmosphere between them…

Were they sisters? Or mother and daughter?

“Wen Yang, you’re here?” Ning Chu finally looked up at him. “Why are you just standing there? Come in, I’m starving.”

“Starving!”

“......”

Wen Yang’s mouth twitched. He didn’t quite know how to respond.

So the 'bad news' Ning Chu mentioned… is this cat girl loli?

He pushed open the cat gate at the entrance and stepped inside.

“She’s… a relative visiting you?” he asked.

A succubus with a cat girl relative... well, they were both non-human girls. It kind of made sense.

“Nope.”

The cat girl turned to Wen Yang with a sweet, innocent smile.

“I’m Mommy’s daughter!”

“!!!”

Wen Yang’s whole body went stiff, his mind going blank.

Hold on—Ning Chu’s only eighteen, right?!

How could she have a daughter who looked around ten?!

“Don’t talk nonsense. I told you to call me ‘sister,’ didn’t I?”

Ning Chu sighed and gently pressed down on the cat girl’s little head.

She looked at Wen Yang and explained, “This is Black Bean. When she woke up today, she had turned into a cat girl...”

“???”

That was still a shocking revelation—but definitely easier to accept than Ning Chu having a kid at eight or nine years old.

Wen Yang didn’t even know what kind of expression to make anymore.

“This is kind of… absurd.”

“Very absurd~”

Black Bean didn’t seem to notice the weird tension in the room at all.

She hurriedly jumped off the bed and ran up to Wen Yang, staring eagerly at the breakfast bags in his hand.

“Daddy~ I’m hungry!”

“What did you just call me?!”

“Daddy! You’re Mommy’s boyfriend, right?”

“Hngh—”

Wen Yang felt his scalp tingle. He and Ning Chu hadn’t done anything! Kissing doesn’t make babies!

Now he finally understood why Ning Chu always had that helpless, tragic look on her face.

With a stiff posture, he placed the breakfast on the table and helped unpack the food containers, chopsticks, and spoons.

Watching Black Bean dig in with a spoon, Wen Yang’s headache worsened.

“If she’s really Black Bean… why can she talk?”

“How would I know...”

After all, that’s how it was written in the original story. Back then, she just wanted it to be convenient—who cared about logic?

Wen Yang sat on the edge of the bed, staring at Black Bean’s little figure as she ate.

He muttered in disbelief, “She’s really Black Bean?”

“Mm-hmm, really.”

"If you said that Black Bean snuck out last night, and you just happened to catch a cat girl thief... I feel that explanation would actually make more sense."

But if that were true, the cat girl wouldn't have been lying naked on top of her.

Nor would she have said things like, "Mommy used to be Daddy."

Ning Chu leaned her head against Wen Yang’s arm with a troubled sigh.

"Stop overthinking. It's Black Bean. It really is."

"I’ve never heard of anything like this before..."

"Maybe this is how the first demi-human girl in the world came to be?"

And strangely enough... that explanation kind of made sense?

Wen Yang gave a classic confused "old man on the subway with a phone.jpg" face.

After a moment’s pause, he asked Black Bean,

"Why do you keep calling her... mom?"

"Because when I was starving, it was Mommy and you who brought me home~"

"...Well, that checks out."

He rubbed the bridge of his nose and looked down at Ning Chu, who was still leaning against his arm with a dead-inside expression.

Seeing how down she looked, he teased,

"Cheer up. You’re a mom now."

"......"

After a moment of silence, Ning Chu looked up and locked eyes with Wen Yang.

"So what now? Are we raising her?"

"Do we have a choice?"

But if a little girl was around all the time, then Wen Yang and her wouldn’t be able to...

Wait, no. That’s definitely not what she should be thinking about right now!

After a pause, she decided to push the problem away:

"Alright, how about this? I’ll call my mom later and ask if she’d be okay... with me having a younger sister."

"That... could work?"

Now the real question was—how would they even begin to explain where Black Bean came from?

Ning Chu rubbed her grumbling stomach in protest, got out of bed, and walked over to Black Bean.

She picked up a breakfast portion and looked down—only to see that this cat girl had turned herself into a mess while eating.

Soup all over her face, and she was even letting out a deep, purring king-of-the-world rumble from her throat. Clearly, she was in a great mood.

Well, she was just a kitten, after all. What kind of stress could she possibly have?

Ning Chu gently rubbed her little head, and Black Bean looked up at her with wide eyes, asking pitifully:

"Mom, can we have meat for lunch?"

"Call me sister... But yeah, meat’s fine."

If they went to the school cafeteria, a meat dish wasn't too expensive.

Given Black Bean’s small size, two portions would be her limit.

Still, compared to dry cat food that cost 20–30 yuan a pound and could last forever…

Their expenses had just gone way up.

While mentally calculating her future budget, Ning Chu pulled out a napkin and wiped the soup off Black Bean’s mouth, gently reminding her,

"Try to eat more neatly next time. Don’t get food all over yourself."

"Okay~"

Wen Yang watched her lovingly clean up the little cat girl’s face with such patience and care.

He couldn’t help but feel a wave of motherly energy radiating off Ning Chu...

With her always-meddling personality, she probably wouldn’t be able to just abandon Black Bean now that she had turned into a cat girl.

"I'm heading out to do deliveries," Wen Yang said as he stood, walking over to Black Bean and standing next to Ning Chu.

He teased, "If I don’t work hard, I won’t be able to afford to raise the two of you."

"Don’t talk nonsense."

"So I’m off, then?"

"It’s raining—be careful."

"Mm."

"Daddy, stay safe!"

Wen Yang genuinely felt, for a moment, like they really were a family of three.
