悲殇的秋千

Chapter 242

"Stay at home okay? Don’t open the door no matter who knocks, got it?"

Before heading out to buy food for Black Bean at the cafeteria, Ning Chu reminded her repeatedly.

"Okay!"

Black Bean sat obediently on her knees at the edge of the bed, nodding her little head.

Compared to other ten-year-old brats that everyone avoids, this half-year-old cat girl was remarkably well-behaved.

She changed out of her long nightgown, put on her guy clothes, grabbed an umbrella, and stepped outside in slippers.

The rain was getting heavier by the minute. Even with an umbrella, it didn’t help much—her pant legs were quickly soaked.

But Ning Chu’s mind wasn’t on the rain—she was still worried about Black Bean.

It was already decided that her mom would come pick up Black Bean at the end of the month.

So the question now was: how was she supposed to take care of a ten-year-old for an entire month?

And with Black Bean always at the rental place, her intimacy with Wen Yang…

Actually, it was because Black Bean was there that Wen Yang hadn’t had the chance to do anything more with her in the past month!

They’d have to hold back even when things got heated.

Just thinking about last night’s bone-melting pleasure made Ning Chu shiver. Her cheeks flushed pink in an instant.

If things really got unbearable... maybe she and Wen Yang could just get a room at a hotel.

She got on the bus heading to campus.

The school cafeteria’s fast food wasn’t exactly tasty, but it was cheap.

If Black Bean just wanted some meat, the cafeteria was the best choice.

A meat dish was only six or seven yuan—pretty affordable in this age of skyrocketing prices.

Even a simple pork stir-fry rice bowl outside campus cost nearly twenty yuan.

At 10 a.m., the cafeteria’s fast food counter still hadn’t put out much food.

Ning Chu glanced around but didn’t see many meat options, so she found a seat and waited.

She’d only been away from the rental apartment for half an hour, yet she couldn’t stop worrying—

What if that cat girl opened the door and ran off?

"Yo~ what brings you to the cafeteria on a weekend?"

A familiar teasing voice came from behind her. Ning Chu turned around and saw the person who was probably the biggest victim in the whole “Black Bean turns into a cat girl” situation—Zhang Shaoqing.

If he had kept Black Bean for just one more day, he might’ve ended up with a bride.

But now? There was no way Ning Chu could hand over a ten-year-old cat girl to Zhang Shaoqing.

Maybe in eight years. Maybe.

Sure, she wrote some really morally questionable stuff in her steamy short stories, but this was real life, not fiction.

"Just grabbing some food and heading out."

She looked at Zhang Shaoqing—same old lazy, casual vibe.

Hands stuffed in his pockets, swaggering as he walked.

Ning Chu frowned slightly, not hiding her dislike.

"Why are you alone?"

"Wang Jie went to hang with his girlfriend~"

Zhang Shaoqing replied, then wandered over to the counter.

After getting his food, he came back and sat next to Ning Chu.

But after just one bite, he suddenly remembered—his roommate was now a girl.

Feeling awkward, he scooted two seats away, putting nearly half a meter of space between them.

"So, how’s Black Bean doing over at your place?"

"Mm... a bit too well, actually."

"Oh? What, she went nuts and started raving last night?"

If only it were just that~

Ning Chu sighed, shaking her head.

Just then, she saw more dishes being served at the counter, so she quickly got up to check it out.

"To-go, please. Sweet and sour pork, and... braised chicken drumstick. Also, cauliflower with pork, red-braised eggplant... and three servings of rice."

She ordered a full six dishes, planning to call Wen Yang back to the apartment for lunch and maybe a nap.

The nine takeout boxes filled two large plastic bags.

Ning Chu carried them over to Zhang Shaoqing and said,

"I’m heading out."

"Whoa, why’d you buy so much? For Wen Yang?"

"None of your damn business."

Zhang Shaoqing watched Ning Chu leave the cafeteria and muttered,

"Let’s see how long you and Wen Yang can keep pretending nothing's going on."

. . . . . .

"Ta-da! The meat you wanted!"

Back at the rental apartment, Ning Chu lined up the takeout boxes in a neat row on the coffee table.

Black Bean's wide, sparkling eyes were filled with surprise and admiration.

Ning Chu crossed her arms smugly and gave a little snort:

"Dig in~"

"Mom, you’re amazing~ You bought so much at once!"

"Call me big sister..."

Ning Chu twitched at the corner of her mouth, then looked down and texted Wen Yang:

"Come home for lunch. I bought a bunch of food from the cafeteria."

"On my way."

Wen Yang worked nearby, delivering food to a few of the surrounding schools.

It was pretty convenient for him to swing by.

After about ten minutes, the sound of a key turning echoed from the front door.

Ning Chu instantly jumped up and rushed over.

The door opened. Wen Yang stood outside in a transparent raincoat, soaked from head to toe.

He stuffed the key back into his pocket and took off the raincoat at the door. Looking up to see Ning Chu rushing over, he grinned:

"The rain’s pouring, but at least the delivery fees are higher than last week."

"Be careful when you're out delivering in this weather."

"Don’t worry."

Even with the raincoat, his clothes and pants were soaked through, and water dripped from his bangs and temples.

Ning Chu quickly ran to the bathroom. When she came back, she had a dry towel in hand, grumbling:

"You're getting water everywhere—dry off already."

"Mm."

Wen Yang stepped inside and took off his jacket, but Ning Chu was already tiptoeing up to help him towel off his dripping hair.

His gentle gaze never left her as he smiled and took the towel from her hand:

"I can do it myself."

"Dad~ Food’s ready!"

He turned toward the sofa to see the little cat girl, Black Bean, with rice and oil all over her cheeks.

Chopsticks in hand, she waved at him enthusiastically.

His smile softened even more. For a moment, he really felt the warmth of a happy little family of three.

A kind and pretty wife, an adorable and obedient daughter, and himself—the hardworking breadwinner of the household…

It was just... this family dynamic was a little too unique. That cat girl didn’t exactly look like a biological daughter.

"Hurry and dry off, then come eat. The food’s getting cold."

Ning Chu closed the door and glanced at Black Bean with Wen Yang:

"Once the rain stops, want to go out shopping? We should buy Black Bean some clothes. Can’t have her staying cooped up at home all the time."

Black Bean hadn't developed much yet—still a scrawny little thing—so buying clothes based on a height of around 130–140 cm should work fine.

"Sure."

"I wanna stay home."

Black Bean shook her head quickly, clearly not interested in going out.

"I don’t wanna go outside."

"But staying home all the time is boring."

"It’s not!"

Ning Chu tried to keep persuading her, but Black Bean was already impatiently swishing her tail and burying her face in her food, completely ignoring her.

Wen Yang pulled over a small stool and sat across from the sofa.

Casually, he explained:

"Her temperament is basically the same as a cat now. She won’t get bored even if she’s left alone."
