Fu Jingshu glanced at the fruit, his eyes inscrutable. "Don't touch things given by others."
"Why?"
"Things from strangers aren't safe." Fu Jingshu picked up the fruit and placed it in the trash can next to the sofa.
Shen Qingqing mused for a moment. "Alright, then I'll buy fruit for our precious son myself. That should be safe enough, right?"
"Mm."
Fu Jingshu took the fruit away.
Shen Qingqing watched his retreating back, her gaze darkening, but ultimately she said nothing.
She personally bought the fruit and, upon returning to the ward, saw someone at the door entangled with the bodyguards. She recognized the person from their back.
"Ning Su, what are you doing?"
Ning Su turned around and saw Shen Qingqing approaching with the fruit. She glanced at the two bodyguards. "I came to visit Jingshu's child, but I was stopped at the door by these two."
Shen Qingqing didn't speak.
Ning Su's face showed displeasure. "These two bodyguards are so rude, why have they been blocking me? Were they ordered by someone?"
She looked at Shen Qingqing, her meaning quite clear.
Shen Qingqing said calmly, "These are bodyguards hired by my husband, so they naturally follow his orders. If you have any complaints, take them up with him."
"You!"
Ning Su certainly wouldn't speak to Fu Jingshu; she could never blame him. Her only recourse was to blame Shen Qingqing and these two oblivious bodyguards.
Shen Qingqing waved her hand. The two bodyguards immediately opened the door. As Shen Qingqing entered, Ning Su conveniently squeezed in behind her.
The bodyguards immediately moved to stop her, but Shen Qingqing waved them off. "You two guard the door. Come in only if I have any instructions."
"Yes."
Ning Su sneered upon hearing this. "Don't speak as if I'm some kind of bandit. I wouldn't do anything to you in a hospital. I'm a person of breeding."
Breeding?
Shen Qingqing felt like laughing. She didn't want to argue with Ning Su about what "breeding" even meant. She placed the fruit on the coffee table and looked at Shen Jinxi. The little one was already asleep.
Shen Qingqing then turned to Ning Su. "Let's talk outside. Grandma and the child are asleep, and I don't want to disturb them."
Ning Su glanced at Madam Fu. She hadn't come this time to see the child, but to see the elder lady. She knew how much Fu Jingshu valued his grandmother.
However, the elder lady hadn't woken up yet, so she could only agree to Shen Qingqing's request.
Once outside the room, Shen Qingqing checked the time. "I have to go out for something shortly. If you have something to say, just say it directly."
"I do have something to say. I heard that you were playing with the child in the garden, which caused the child to have an allergic reaction and faint. No matter how you look at it, it's your fault as an adult for being negligent and careless!"
Ning Su lectured.
Shen Qingqing looked at her strangely. "What does this have to do with you?"
Did it fall to her to question Shen Qingqing?
Ning Su said coldly, "I'm holding you accountable on Jingshu's behalf. The child isn't just yours, he's Jingshu's too! He entrusted the child to you, and you have a responsibility to take good care of him!"
"Are you treating him fairly?"
Shen Qingqing's lips twitched. "Whether I'm treating him fairly is between the two of us. Thank you for your concern, but it's not needed. Also, I have things to attend to, so I won't see you out."
She turned to leave.
Ning Su stomped her foot in anger. "You stop right there, I haven't finished speaking!"
"If you have something to say, go find him."
Shen Qingqing paused, gave Ning Su a cold look, and then turned to leave.
Ning Su stamped her foot in anger.
When Shen Qingqing returned with lunch, she saw Fu Jingshu also rushing back. Seeing his hurried demeanor, as if something had happened, she asked, "What's wrong?"
"Nothing." Fu Jingshu took a document, kissed her forehead, and said, "Be good, stay in the hospital, I'll be back after I finish my business."
He then left in a hurry.
It was obvious something had happened.
Shen Qingqing chased him to the door and watched him stride around the corner. She had no choice but to call Lin Mo. The phone rang for a long time before he answered.
"Madam, what is it?"
"Did something happen at the company?" Shen Qingqing asked directly.
Lin Mo was silent for a moment, his hand stopping its movement of flipping through files. "Madam, I'm busy with work right now. I'll call you back after I'm done..."
"Don't change the subject."
Shen Qingqing didn't fall for it, her tone serious. "Something must have happened at the company, otherwise Jingshu wouldn't have left. Answer me whatever I ask, if you still consider me Madam."
Lin Mo quickly said, "Madam, what are you saying? How could I not consider you Madam? Your place in Master Fu's heart is unparalleled."
"If you know that, why aren't you telling the truth?"
Lin Mo gritted his teeth. "Madam, it's truly not that I don't want to say, but that I can't. If you really want to know, it's better to ask Master Fu. You know he told me not to say anything, and I wouldn't dare."
With that, he hung up the phone.
Shen Qingqing took a deep breath, increasingly realizing that this matter was likely no small thing, otherwise he wouldn't have been so evasive.
In the evening, Fu Jingshu returned. He looked normal, with no signs of anything amiss.
Shen Qingqing didn't immediately ask. Instead, she set the table for dinner as usual. After a few casual remarks, they sat down to eat.
One didn't ask, the other didn't speak.
After dinner, Shen Qingqing put down her chopsticks and turned to look at the child.
Staring at the leftover food on the table, Fu Jingshu raised his hand and touched his nose. He diligently cleared the table of the remnants.
Then he poured her a cup of hot water and handed it to her.
Shen Qingqing ignored him.
Fu Jingshu placed the cup on the table. "I didn't tell you about the company matters because I didn't want you to worry."
Shen Qingqing snorted. "I think you don't trust me."
"What makes you say that?" Fu Jingshu placed his hands on her shoulders, making her look him in the eye. "You are my wife. Is there anyone in this world I trust more than you?"
Shen Qingqing pouted dismissively.
"Qingqing." Fu Jingshu's voice softened, his eyes full of tenderness. "Just focus on what you need to do. You don't need to worry about company matters."
"If you don't want to say, then don't. I can't be bothered to ask." Shen Qingqing was still unhappy. She brushed his hand away, her gaze fixed only on the child in the bed.
Fu Jingshu stared at her profile. She was truly beautiful. They were close, and he could even see the fine downy hairs on his wife's face. He couldn't resist leaning in and kissing her.
Shen Qingqing glared at him. "You!"
"There was a slight problem with the cooperation with Ning Xin." Fu Jingshu pursed his thin lips, savoring her sweetness, and finally told the truth. "But it's not a big problem, and I'll resolve it."
Shen Qingqing's expression shifted slightly. "What kind of problem?"
Suddenly, Fu Jingshu's phone rang.
He intended to step outside to answer it, but Shen Qingqing stopped him.
