Fu Jingshu arrived not long after.
Shen Qingqing said apologetically, "I'm sorry, I wasn't watching the child carefully..."
Before she could finish, she was suddenly embraced.
Fu Jingshu's deep voice sounded slowly in her ear, "It's not your fault."
If this was an accident, then it was unavoidable; if it was man-made...
His eyes turned cold.
Shen Qingqing hugged his waist and looked at Shen Jinxi in the hospital bed through the door. "The doctor said there's nothing serious, he just needs some rest."
Fu Jingshu gently stroked the back of her head, his fingertips threading through her hair. "It'll be okay, he'll be fine."
Shen Qingqing rested her head on his shoulder, and much of the guilt and self-blame in her heart dissipated.
"Do you still have things to do at your company?" Her vulnerability lasted only a moment before she quickly regained her composure. "You don't need to worry about things here; go take care of your business. I'll notify you immediately if anything happens."
Fu Jingshu remained silent, only lowering his head to kiss her cheek.
Shen Qingqing took it as his agreement.
Unexpectedly, not long after, Fu Jingshu not only stayed but also Lin Mo arrived, bringing his laptop and some files.
A large pile was laid out on the coffee table in the hospital lounge.
Lin Mo straightened up and let out a sigh of relief. "Master Fu, all your work has been brought over. I'm needed at the company, so I'll be heading back. Call me if anything comes up."
"Mmm," Fu Jingshu nodded.
As soon as Lin Mo left, Shen Qingqing grabbed Fu Jingshu and asked, "Are you going to handle work here? But isn't the company very busy right now? Will it be okay if you're not there?"
This was, after all, not the company office, and handling work would be inconvenient.
Fu Jingshu held her hand, the smooth touch making his heart even softer. "With Lin Mo there, the company doesn't need me to be personally present."
His eyes darkened, and his voice was deep and measured.
"If he didn't have this capability, he wouldn't be worth the millions in salary I give him."
Shen Qingqing raised an eyebrow. "That guy earns so much?"
Fu Jingshu nodded. "Mmm, he's highly capable and has been with me for many years."
Shen Qingqing understood and was no longer worried after hearing his words. "Since you're so confident, then you can stay at the hospital. Besides, Xixi still needs to be observed, and it's difficult for one person to manage both Grandma and Xixi."
"Okay." Fu Jingshu seemed to know what she was thinking. "Grandma and Xixi are in the same room. I'll watch over them, and you can go do what you need to do."
Shen Qingqing was surprised. "You..."
She did have something she wanted to do, but Xixi hadn't woken up yet, and she couldn't leave him or feel at ease doing so.
Fu Jingshu stroked her long hair.
At noon, as Shen Qingqing walked out the door, she saw two tall, imposing bodyguards standing by the entrance. Upon seeing her, they turned in unison and greeted her.
"Greetings, Madam!"
Shen Qingqing twitched the corner of her lips. "Hello."
She turned back to the room.
"Jingshu, did you hire those two bodyguards outside?"
Fu Jingshu was working, his deep gaze fixed on the screen, his hands moving continuously. "To prevent another such incident, it's better to have someone keep watch."
After all, no matter how careful they were, oversights were inevitable.
Shen Qingqing nodded, sat beside him, and glanced at the dense text on the screen, her interest waning as she looked away. "We haven't heard from Colin. I wonder if Professor Liao has been contacted."
"Don't rush, you will be contacted." Fu Jingshu wasn't worried at all.
Shen Qingqing tilted her head, looking at him. "There's something off about you."
He had also been very concerned about Professor Liao's news before. Once Professor Liao was found, Dr. Gao could wake up, and then Director Liu's situation could be resolved smoothly.
But why was he suddenly so calm now?
Fu Jingshu's lips curved slightly, and he smiled without saying a word.
"Something's off!" Shen Qingqing rubbed her chin, pondered for a moment, and suddenly thought of something. "Did Ning Xin's side have any leads?"
"Yes, there are."
Shen Qingqing was overjoyed. "Really? What have you found out now?"
Fu Jingshu looked up at her. "Don't rush."
Some things only had leads and required time and more solid evidence to confirm.
Shen Qingqing was happy for nothing. "I thought..."
It seemed they still had to find Professor Liao.
A knock sounded from outside. One of the bodyguards poked his head in. "Master Fu, Madam, a visitor is here. It's a woman with a little girl. Her surname is Zhao."
Fu Jingshu raised an eyebrow.
"I know her, let them in," Shen Qingqing said. The bodyguard immediately pushed open the door and let Mrs. Zhao and Yuanyuan in.
"Miss Shen..." Mrs. Zhao's face broke into a gentle smile. The next second, seeing Fu Jingshu, who was sitting there with a cold, handsome face and exuded an imposing aura even while silent, she froze.
Shen Qingqing patted Fu Jingshu's shoulder, gesturing for him to move further inside on the sofa, while she sat on the outer side, somewhat blocking him. "This is my husband; don't be afraid. Come in."
"Oh, I see..." Mrs. Zhao, with Yuanyuan in tow, walked in and placed a basket of fruit and flowers on the coffee table. "Has Xixi woken up?"
"Not yet."
Mrs. Zhao sighed and hugged Yuanyuan tighter. "If I had known, we wouldn't have gone to the garden. Even if they were in the ward, letting the two children play together would have been fine..."
Shen Qingqing glanced at Xixi, her gaze gentle. "We don't know what the allergen is yet; it might not necessarily be because they went to the garden."
Mrs. Zhao was startled and asked tentatively, "Are you suggesting the allergen might have been deliberate?"
"It's hard to say."
Shen Qingqing spoke vaguely.
Mrs. Zhao's lips twitched, and she managed a faint smile. "It shouldn't be, should it? We were standing nearby, and the two children were playing together. The actors didn't bring anything."
She held Yuanyuan tighter, looking a bit nervous.
Shen Qingqing comforted her. "Don't worry, I'm not saying this has anything to do with you, but we need to investigate thoroughly no matter what."
"An investigation is necessary. It concerns the child's health; we can't be careless."
Mrs. Zhao didn't stay long before asking to leave, saying Yuanyuan needed to go downstairs for a check-up. Shen Qingqing didn't try to keep her.
After they left, Xixi woke up.
The little fellow giggled, "Mommy."
Shen Qingqing held his hand. "Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?"
"No." Shen Jinxi's face was still a little pale, but he was full of energy and looked lively. "Mommy, don't worry."
Shen Qingqing stroked his head, feeling relieved. This child's personality always made her worry less. No matter what happened, he could always maintain his optimism.
Involuntarily, she thought of Chenchen.
Even though she knew this child was Fu Tingyi's last bargaining chip to threaten her, and he wouldn't hurt Chenchen, her heart was always uneasy until she saw him.
"Mommy?"
Seeing Shen Jinxi's worried gaze, Shen Qingqing shook her head. "It's nothing. You rest well, and Mommy will peel an apple for you."
"Mmm, mmm!"
As Shen Qingqing was about to get the fruit, Fu Jingshu grabbed her wrist. She raised an eyebrow. "What is it?"
