Shen Qingqing went to see Dr. Gao.
He was still in a deep sleep as always. She called Liao Wenbo, who answered quickly. “I’ve just landed, please wait a moment, I’ll be there soon. Don’t rush me, my car is here, I have to hang up now.”
Shen Qingqing didn’t even get a word in.
She put her phone away, glanced at Dr. Gao, then turned towards the window. It was the third floor, and from here, she could clearly see everything happening below.
Including some dark corners.
And a fleeting glimpse of fabric in a corner.
The corners of her lips curved upwards, and the nascent idea in her heart began to form a complete plan.
Two hours later, Shen Qingqing returned to her son’s hospital room. She checked the time, her brow furrowed. Fu Jingshu, noticing her expression, asked, “What’s wrong?”
Shen Qingqing knitted her brows. “Why hasn’t Professor Liao arrived yet?”
“Didn’t he say what time he’d be here?”
“I called him this morning, and he said he’d be here shortly, but ‘shortly’ has turned into over two hours!” Shen Qingqing was getting a bit annoyed by his lack of punctuality.
Fu Jingshu pondered for a moment. “Could something have happened?”
Shen Qingqing paused. “That shouldn’t be the case. I haven’t told anyone about Liao Wenbo’s arrival.”
Fu Jingshu murmured, “But others might know.”
His words made Shen Qingqing feel uneasy. She tried calling Liao Wenbo, but this time, there was no answer for a long time.
“This is bad,” she murmured, staring at her phone.
“Don’t worry, I’ll have someone look for him,” Fu Jingshu said, pulling out his phone and calling Lin Mo.
Shen Qingqing’s hands clenched slightly. “I’m not worried. It’s obvious that the only person who would do this is Director Liu, who doesn’t want Dr. Gao to wake up.”
Fu Jingshu’s eyes turned cold. “I’ll have someone keep an eye on him.”
“No need.” Shen Qingqing pulled him closer and whispered a few words in his ear.
A flicker of surprise flashed in Fu Jingshu’s eyes, then turned into understanding and indulgence. “You want me to do it?”
Shen Qingqing raised an eyebrow. “Can’t I?”
“Of course. When have I ever refused your requests?” Fu Jingshu cupped the back of her head and lowered his head slightly, planting a kiss on her rosy lips.
It was a light kiss, but filled with affection.
“Shame on you!”
Shen Jinxi’s voice suddenly rang out.
The two of them snapped back to attention, seeing the little boy covering his face with his hands, peeking at them through his fingers.
Shen Qingqing walked over and flicked his forehead. “Caught you peeking again.”
Shen Jinxi giggled. “I wasn’t peeking, I was watching openly!”
Shen Qingqing shook her head helplessly and turned to Fu Jingshu. “Get ready, we’ll act this afternoon. I don’t want to delay any longer.”
“Alright.”
Fu Jingshu thought to himself that it would be quite challenging, especially since he wasn't much of an actor.
One o’clock in the afternoon.
In the pavilion below the hospital, a man was swatting away mosquitoes all around him. If the other party wasn’t paying him well, he really wouldn’t want to be doing this job!
It was too miserable!
Suddenly, he saw a figure flash past the window on the third floor. He quickly rubbed his eyes and stared intently at the window.
Soon, the figure reappeared.
Then Shen Qingqing also appeared. She pulled the person inside, said something, and closed the window.
The man quickly took his phone out of his pocket and brought up a photo.
It was of Dr. Gao.
This was bad!
The person was awake!
The man clutched his phone and turned to run. Halfway there, he suddenly remembered that he could just call. He smacked his forehead and made a call to Director Liu.
The hospital, third floor.
Shen Qingqing watched the figure scurrying away below and smiled faintly.
Excellent, the plan was proceeding smoothly.
...
Director Liu answered the phone, incredulous. “What did you say? He’s really awake?”
The man was frantic. “He’s really awake, I’m not lying! I saw him clearly at the third-floor window just now! Then that woman who visits him often pulled him back in. I suspect he’s been awake for a while, and she just didn’t want him to be seen!”
This made Director Liu feel uneasy.
Dr. Gao’s illness was not in his department, nor did it fall under his purview. The director of the neurology department was even at odds with him.
He had never had an opportunity to investigate the situation.
“Are you sure?”
The man was extremely certain. “I’m sure! I was too shocked at the time to take a photo for you. We need to make plans soon!”
“I understand. I’ll make arrangements.”
Director Liu hung up the phone, gritting his teeth.
Why wouldn’t this man just die? If he died, all these troubles would disappear! Since he was so tenacious, he would send him on his way!
He impassively dialed a phone number.
“I want you to kill Dr. Gao, before tonight.”
...
Night.
Shen Qingqing saw the children, then went to check on Dr. Gao, before finally returning to her children’s room to rest.
As time passed, the night sky deepened.
The patients had all retired to their rooms, leaving only one nurse on duty at the nurses’ station. The hospital corridors were silent.
“Drip, drip, drip.”
The sound of shoes hitting the floor, rhythmic and slow, accompanied by the sound of trolley wheels rolling.
A woman in cleaning attire approached slowly.
She kept her head down, wearing a mask.
The nurse at the station glanced at her and said softly, “It’s so late, you don’t need to clean anymore. Don’t disturb the patients.”
“Okay.”
The cleaning lady agreed and pushed her trolley into the restroom.
About half an hour later, a tall, slender girl in a nurse’s uniform and a mask emerged from the restroom.
Her hands were in her pockets, her demeanor relaxed, and her target was Room 303.
Another nurse walked towards her. She was also wearing a mask. Seeing her, the girl greeted her, “Hey, are you on duty tonight? You look unfamiliar.”
“I’m new. This is my second day of work.”
“Oh, I thought I hadn’t seen you before.” The nurse brushed past her.
The girl blinked and pushed open the door to Room 303. Her gaze slowly swept around the room. It was dimly lit.
The corridor lights cast a faint glow, making the figure on the bed vaguely visible.
She closed the door behind her, and the light from the corridor instantly disappeared, plunging the room into darkness.
She walked straight to the bedside and stopped, then suddenly spoke.
“Dr. Gao?”
The person in bed naturally did not respond. She took off her mask and sighed. “Don’t blame me. I’m just doing this for money. It’s your fault for offending the wrong person…”
She lifted the blanket. She couldn’t see the person’s face clearly, but it didn’t matter. She had confirmed it before coming today; the person lying here was Dr. Gao.
She slowly extended her hand, a paper-thin razor blade held between her fingers.
This blade was extremely sharp, capable of easily severing the trachea with a single stroke.
