He almost felt like laughing. Did Jiang Mi think he was dead after she stabbed him? So now she was planning to run away with their daughter? What a pipe dream!
His daughter was his treasure, and no one would take her away!
Furthermore, he had no idea what kind of person Jiang Mi's boyfriend was. How could he possibly let him become a stepfather to his daughter? There were too many scumbag stepfathers in the world!
Jiang Mi let out a startled scream. She stared at the person lying in the hospital bed with his eyes open, completely stunned. "You're not dead?"
"Do you wish I were dead that badly? Then why didn't you stab me in the heart!" Jiang Jingxiu said, exasperated.
"No, that's not what I meant. Of course, I don't want you dead... It was Jin Lan who said you were dead." Jiang Mi's mind was in a complete mess. The vast discrepancy in information was overwhelming her.
"Jin Lan said I was dead?" Jiang Jingxiu found it hard to believe. How could Jin Lan say such a thing? "Tell me, when did I almost kill you? Explain it clearly."
"Don't you know what you did? Weren't you the one who hired assassins to kill me back then? If I hadn't been so lucky, if I hadn't met my current boyfriend, I would be dead by now!" Jiang Mi wasn't afraid to confront him. She wanted to see how he would deny it.
Jiang Jingxiu stared at her, dumbfounded. "You think I wanted to kill you back then."
"That's right, those two men said so. You wanted me gone!" Jiang Mi gritted her teeth.
"It wasn't me! That person was lying to you. The one who truly wanted you dead was Jiang Tian. Later, when I found out, I tracked Jiang Tian down and had her sent to prison. She's still there. I didn't want to avenge you then because I thought she might still be useful. You might not know this, but she was the one who donated bone marrow to Mian Mian." Jiang Jingxiu told Jiang Mi what had happened back then.
Jiang Mi frowned, looking at him with disbelief. The person who had saved her daughter by donating bone marrow was that wretched Jiang Tian? She had never imagined that the one who matched her daughter's bone marrow would be that woman!
"I swear everything I'm saying is true. You are the mother of my child. How could I possibly harm you? But the mastermind behind it wasn't Jiang Tian either. Jiang Tian was just a brainless fool, manipulated by others. The real culprit was Tang Xinran. She also faced her punishment and is now locked up in a mental institution, likely no longer mentally sound. I thought dying would be too easy for her, and that place was her rightful destination." Jiang Jingxiu revealed everything that had happened.
After listening, Jiang Mi found it all incredibly bizarre, yet oddly logical. Upon reflection, it all seemed to connect. Perhaps he was telling the truth.
"So, you never wanted me dead?" Jiang Mi looked at him and asked. She had wanted to ask him this for a long time: why did he want her dead so badly?
"I didn't. Never! I swear, if I did, may lightning strike me!" Jiang Jingxiu immediately raised his hand and swore.
Jiang Mi stumbled back a few steps, momentarily unable to process his words. The belief she had held for six years had collapsed, and she didn't know how to face this man.
"I need some time to calm down. You should focus on recovering from your injuries," Jiang Mi said, then turned and ran out of the room.
Jiang Jingxiu wanted to chase after her, but the pain from his wound slowed him down considerably. By the time he reached the corridor, Jiang Mi was nowhere to be seen.
