Jiang Mianmian was not an unreliable person. If she said she would go buy brown sugar water for this little fool, she wouldn't fail to bring it even if something came up. Even if there was an emergency, asking a classmate to deliver it wouldn't be a problem.
The most suspicious thing was that Qian Xiaoguo couldn't recall who told her that Jiang Mianmian had been picked up by her family.
Yun Buji left the playground directly. He went to the school shop and asked about what Mianmian had said when buying brown sugar water.
"This young lady, she bought brown sugar, borrowed some water to make it, and then wanted to buy a hot water bottle. I told her we didn't sell them, but the school had ordered a batch for the teachers as a welfare gift. So, she left." The shopkeeper finished and went back to his work.
Yun Buji's expression darkened. He immediately went to the school storeroom. Seeing the locked door, he began to bang on it. "Jiang Mianmian, are you inside?"
Mianmian was relying on the brown sugar water to sustain herself, but she still felt terrible. This room had no windows, which created a suffocating feeling. Coupled with her own underlying health issues, she felt utterly miserable.
Suddenly hearing Yun Buji's voice, Mianmian thought she had misheard. She hesitated and asked, "Yun Buji, is that you?"
"It's me. Wait for me, I'll unlock it right away." Hearing her voice, Yun Buji's heart finally settled, but his anger almost overwhelmed him. Fortunately, he was alert enough. If he hadn't discovered she was trapped here, would she have stayed for a long time?
Yun Buji was furious, but he calmly figured out how to open the lock. As he rushed in, Mianmian was leaning against a shelf, trying to stand up. Seeing him enter, tears streamed down her face uncontrollably. Yun Buji felt a pang in his chest and immediately went to support her. Mianmian's legs felt weak, and she nearly fell again. He quickly reached out and caught her.
"How are you? Are you okay? I'll take you to the hospital." Yun Buji immediately picked Mianmian up. She was delicate, and he carried her effortlessly.
"Wait... wait a moment, I need to catch my breath." Mianmian's hands clutched his clothes tightly, showing how scared and nervous she was.
"Let's get out first." Yun Buji carried Mianmian out of the storeroom. Once outside, he placed her on a flowerbed to sit down. He then knelt in front of her and asked, "Where do you feel unwell? Tell me."
Mianmian's complexion was terrible, and her chest felt heavy. She shook her head. "I feel much better now that I'm out. Yun Buji, thank you for saving me."
Mianmian's tears continued to fall, large drops that broke Yun Buji's heart. He raised his sleeve and wiped them away for her.
Mianmian's face was covered in dust, and with her tears, her small face was smudged, making her look like a little calico cat.
Yun Buji felt extremely distressed. "Is there anything else that feels uncomfortable? Let's go to the hospital."
"I'm really... really much better. Just let me rest for a moment, and I'll be fine." Mianmian choked back a sob and tried to wipe her face herself.
Yun Buji looked around. There was no one here. He said, "You sit here for a moment, I'll go find you some water to drink."
"Don't go, I've already had the brown sugar water. I still have some here. Don't go, I'm scared." Mianmian was truly frightened. She didn't know who would play such a prank on her, it had really terrified her.
Yun Buji could only sit beside her and watch her. Mianmian was trembling a little at first, but slowly she calmed down. She took a deep breath and said, "I'm better now. Let's go."
