Gu Yunting had arrived outside the Gu residence. Seeing Ye Wan's call, the originally stern lines of his lips curved slightly as he answered, "Hello?"
He raised a hand to signal the driver to stop. The car pulled over less than five hundred meters from the Gu residence.
"Are you... very busy lately? When will you... come home?"
"Something's wrong?" Gu Yunting looked up at the brightly lit villa in the distance, a faint warmth in his eyes.
"Mmm... Grandma Sun asked if I wanted to buy some spring couplets to put up since the New Year is coming soon?" Ye Wan found an excuse, feeling a little awkward. She didn't want to admit it, but she couldn't deceive herself any longer; she missed him.
Gu Yunting listened to her shy voice, the curve of his lips widening. "You miss me?"
"No way! I just wanted to ask you about this. You... come back or don't, I don't care! I'm hanging up, I'm sleepy, going to bed." Ye Wan felt too embarrassed and quickly hung up the phone.
Gu Yunting listened to the dead tone from his phone and called her back. Ye Wan answered, "Is there something else?"
"If you miss me, I'll go back. If you don't miss me, I won't," Gu Yunting said deliberately, wanting to see what she would say.
"I don't miss you. You should continue accompanying Miss Yan!"
Knowing he was with other women, she truly couldn't bring herself to say she missed him.
But hearing her words, Gu Yunting's mood became even more cheerful, even forgetting his own injuries.
"So... you're jealous." Gu Yunting chuckled softly.
Ye Wan's eyes widened when she heard this. Just as she was about to retort, Gu Yunting hung up this time. Ye Wan wanted to explain that she wasn't jealous, how could she possibly be jealous... but no one answered her call.
Ye Wan stood there, holding her phone, stunned. Was she really jealous?
Fine, she admitted she was a little jealous.
But so what? She was his legal wife now. If he was seen out with other women, wasn't she allowed to be jealous?
Ye Wan put down her phone angrily, thinking about his messy affair with that other woman. The more she thought about it, the more wronged she felt.
Gu Yunting returned silently. He ordered the driver to turn off the car lights and walked upstairs with light steps until he reached the bedroom door. He reached out and pushed the door open.
Ye Wan was sitting with her back to the door. Feeling a bit down because of what had just happened, she assumed it was Grandma Sun when she heard the door open and said irritably, "Grandma Sun, I want to be alone for a while. We can talk about things tomorrow."
'Grandma Sun' didn't leave; instead, she walked further in. Ye Wan turned around abruptly. When she saw the person who had just said he wouldn't be back suddenly standing before her, Ye Wan's eyes widened, and tears welled up.
Seeing that she had actually cried, Gu Yunting's heart softened. He sat down and hugged her. "Why are you crying?"
Ye Wan quickly looked up to wipe her tears and denied it, "I'm not crying, you scared me."
"Am I that scary? Can I scare you to tears?" Gu Yunting looked at the stubborn little woman and playfully bit her ear as a punishment.
Held in his arms, Ye Wan's restless heart seemed to have found its harbor and settled down. She tightly pursed her lips, not realizing that her fingers were gripping his clothes.
"Gu Yunting... do you... like me?" Ye Wan finally couldn't help but ask. She tilted her small face up slightly, her eyes red-rimmed, her nose tip also a little red. She looked so pitiful, as if she had suffered a great wrong.
