Chapter 239 A Million for a Single Bite

Ye Wan found Sun Ma's gossiping tendencies a bit exasperating, as if eavesdropping on gossip was more important than her position as housekeeper, which paid several times more than ordinary servants!

Perhaps Gu Yunting simply hadn't remembered the matter yet, and Sun Ma could return to her housekeeper position in a couple of days.

Two days passed, and Ye Wan did not see Gu Yunting again. Sun Ma remained just an ordinary servant. Jin Lan called Ye Wan to have her stitches removed at the hospital and to check on her wound recovery.

When Ye Wan returned from the hospital, she sensed something was amiss. Upon entering, she saw an unfamiliar middle-aged woman, appearing to be in her thirties, wearing a housekeeper's uniform.

Ye Wan's brow furrowed. She then saw Sun Ma, just like before, cleaning the stairs and walls. The other servants were also working diligently, and when they saw her return, they stole glances at her with expressions of schadenfreude.

"You must be Ye Wan, right? I am the new housekeeper, my surname is Jiang." Housekeeper Jiang wore a fake smile that made one feel exceptionally uncomfortable.

"Hello," Ye Wan greeted her.

"I know you are still in university, which is a blessing from the Gu family, so you should be grateful. Therefore, besides your studies, you still need to work for the Gu family," Housekeeper Jiang said to her earnestly.

"Then I'm afraid I will disappoint you. I will be very busy and will only return here to sleep. I may not have time to work… and, I don't accept a salary." Ye Wan, in a bad mood, then strode back to her room.

Housekeeper Jiang: "..."

Ye Wan returned to her room and put down her schoolbag. She couldn't let Sun Ma lose her position as housekeeper; she was implicated by herself. She had to see Gu Yunting and ask him to reinstate Sun Ma's housekeeper position.

However, the thought of Gu Yunting's furious expression that day sent shivers down her spine.

Her phone rang. It was the doctor who was finding a match for her brother. They asked when she would have the surgery, and they would arrange for someone to fly over; that person was from Nan Province.

"Once the hospital arrangements are made, I will inform you," Ye Wan had already spoken with her brother's attending physician and asked him to schedule the surgery as soon as possible.

"Oh, by the way, how much are the costs this time?" Ye Wan knew that Fu Huaishen had paid for her, but she didn't want to be indebted to anyone and was determined to repay him no matter the amount.

"Your brother's condition is very special, and we have gone to great lengths to find a suitable match. Furthermore, all expenses for the match donor are covered. A fixed price, one million yuan," the doctor stated truthfully.

Even Ye Wan, usually calm, gasped at the price. Things that were free at the hospital, this person was asking for one million yuan!

"Little girl, you've found a good boyfriend. Your boyfriend is wealthy. The money has already been deposited. You just wait for the person to come for the surgery," the doctor said before hanging up.

Ye Wan, however, was dejected. One million yuan; where could she possibly get so much money?

The pressure of her debt instantly motivated her. She picked up a pen and paper and began calculating lottery numbers.

Ye Wan kept waiting for Gu Yunting's return. From her room's windowsill, she could see what was happening outside. By nine o'clock, Gu Yunting had still not returned.

Sun Ma, however, came in with a bowl of noodles. She said with a smile, "Ye Wan, you haven't eaten dinner, have you? Have a bowl of noodles."

Ye Wan reluctantly got up and walked over. Sun Ma had cooked her a steaming bowl of noodles, topped with a beautifully fried egg and a few slices of beef, sprinkled with chives and cilantro, making it look appetizing.

"Have you eaten?" Ye Wan asked.
