Chapter 15: Chapter 15: I Can Choose Not to Have Children
He sat in the hospital room, looking at the person on the bed, with the doctor’s words echoing in his mind.
Whether the child can be saved is still uncertain; originally, things were looking good, but due to recent pregnancy symptoms, rest hasn’t been adequate.
On top of that, today’s impact was a bit severe, so we can only focus on stabilizing the pregnancy for now.
Elias Lancaster admitted to himself that he had fallen in love with this unfortunate little person; he couldn’t bear to see her in distress, nor could he stand her tears.
He would treat her well in the future, even if they never had children; nothing was more important than her.
All the abstinence, all the cold aloofness, had long since changed because of her.
He would give her everything she wanted.
He would pamper her, love her, and make her happy.
The phone vibrated.
Elias immediately answered the call, glanced at the person on the bed who wasn’t disturbed, and got up to walk outside.
When Serena Yeats awakened, she saw that she was alone in the hospital room.
She waited for a long time, but the familiar figure hadn’t come.
She felt a bit disappointed. Ever since she moved into Elias Lancaster’s home, whenever she felt unwell, Elias would always stay by her side, but today he wasn’t there.
She insisted on going to school, and something happened. Was he unhappy and didn’t want to talk to her?
Did the child get lost? Did he not want her anymore?
The thought of this possibility made tears stream down Serena’s face.
It was all her fault if she had listened to Uncle and not gone to school, this wouldn’t have happened.
Now, if the baby is truly gone, how is she supposed to explain to Elias Lancaster and Old Madam Lancaster?
Serena had already decided during class to take a break from school, but then this happened. What should she do in the future?
If the babies are gone, moving out of Elias’s place doesn’t matter much; what’s worse is how she would face them back at school?
So tired, so tired!
Just as she was lost in thoughts of self-blame, the door to the hospital room opened, and the familiar figure walked in.
As soon as Elias entered, he saw she was awake, her face covered in tears.
He hurriedly went up to her, grabbed her hand, and kissed her forehead, "You’re awake, is there anywhere you feel unwell?"
His hoarse voice was filled with gentleness, a gentleness reserved just for her.
Serena came to her senses, and tears fell down again.
"Don’t cry, Serena, the babies are fine. The doctor said that as long as you lie down and rest for a while, they’ll be fine. Don’t cry." Elias nervously wiped her tears away.
"Sob, sob..." Serena couldn’t hold back anymore upon hearing that the babies were okay; she broke into sobs, crying out all her grievances and self-blame.
When she cried, his heart ached along with her; he couldn’t stand seeing her cry at all.
Elias took off his shoes, climbed onto the bed, and gently hugged her, comforting her softly.
The sunset outside shone in softly, creating a beautiful scene.
After quite a while.
Serena’s crying gradually subsided.
Elias breathed a sigh of relief. For the first time in thirty years of his life, he had fallen for someone, and for the first time, he realized how much his own emotions could fluctuate.
"My dear, if you want to go to school, just go. I’ll pick you up and drop you off every day," Elias said softly, looking into her red eyes.
He couldn’t care less anymore. Even though he knew school was not good for her health, as long as it was something she wanted to do, he would let her do it.
At most, he could arrange for someone to accompany her at school, take care of her, and make sure those people wouldn’t bully her again. At the very least, she’d be happier.
Listening to his words, Serena felt he seemed a bit different.
However, she had already made up her mind.
She sniffed and said softly, "Uncle, I’ve made up my mind, I want to take a break from school."
Elias gently stroked her back, thinking she had chosen to take a break from school due to this incident.
"If you like it, you should go to school. I just got a call from the principal, those people have been expelled, and they won’t bully you anymore."
Of course, their expulsion was the school’s decision, but he wouldn’t just let them off the hook. Those who dared to bully someone he cared about should be made to suffer more than death.
Serena was very firm, "No, I want to take a break from school."
Elias didn’t quite understand, "Serena, didn’t you want to go to school? Why did you change your mind seemingly on a whim?"
He clearly remembered that yesterday he had only asked her to think about it, and she had reacted very strongly, even cried.
Serena sniffed, "I’m experiencing severe pregnancy symptoms right now, my mental state is not well, and I can’t keep up. I don’t understand what the teachers are saying, and it’s very stressful."
Elias thought about it and agreed; schooling could indeed be very tiring right now, so he didn’t think much further. "Whatever you say goes. I’ll arrange for you to take a break from school tomorrow and bring your belongings back."
"Okay." Serena also breathed a sigh of relief.
Thinking that she wouldn’t have to see those roommates again in the future made her feel much better.
After giving birth and returning to school, her new life would be a fresh start. She believed that there were still many good people in this world.
Early the next morning, Elias arranged for Serena’s school-related matters.
Serena only had to relax; Elias would take care of everything.
By noon, Elias returned after a phone call, "Serena, all the paperwork is done. In the afternoon, I’ll have Nanny Livingston bring your things back."
Serena was surprised, "So fast?"
She thought it would take a few days, but she hadn’t expected it to get resolved in just one morning.
The truth was, normally it would take a few days, but the person handling it was Elias Lancaster, the prince of Aethelgard.
The principal had to address him as Master Lancaster, and given what happened yesterday, the principal wouldn’t dare delay, accomplishing everything in just half a day.
Elias saw the smile finally return to her face, and he also smiled at the corners of his mouth.
He was so glad to see her smile again; it was very beautiful.
He should make her smile more often from now on.
"Really! Thank you, Unc... Elias." She had been too excited earlier, but she still found calling him Elias a bit awkward.
Elias said, "No need to change; call me whatever you like."
Serena laughed heartily.
But then she thought perhaps she should pack her things herself, just in case Nanny Livingston took the wrong items.
After all, those people were expelled, and she wouldn’t run into them again.
"I’d like to pack my things myself; Nanny Livingston doesn’t know what things are mine," she said.
Elias felt worried inside, but he didn’t show it on the surface, "Then in a few days, take Nanny Livingston with you. The doctor said you need to lie down more now."
"Serena, open your mouth." Elias brought the spoon to Serena’s mouth.
"Uncle, I can eat by myself." Serena reached out to take the bowl from Elias’s hand.
Elias dodged to the side, "The doctor said you need to lie down more and rest."
Serena was helpless and had to compromise.
She ate bite after bite.
"Uncle, I’m full," Serena protested.
"Just two more bites."
"I really can’t eat anymore."
"Alright."
Right then, Elias finished what was left, and Serena was stunned for a moment.
That was the portion she had eaten, and the spoon was the one she just used....
Instantly, her face turned red.
During the following week, Elias stayed with Serena in the hospital room, except for going to the bathroom and taking a shower, she never got out of bed.
Elias even fed her meals.
Until the follow-up checkup, the doctor said everything was fine; after going home, she just needed to rest well, but they had to be careful afterward.
