Chapter 43 Dr. Hard

Bai Ye immediately took to his heels and ran.

Even though Bai Ye’s body had been enhanced by the T-virus, it was no match for a behemoth of this tonnage. The difference was that a direct impact would turn him into mincemeat, while a collision would at least leave him with a human form.

However, with his enhanced physique, Bai Ye’s speed was comparable. And while he was no match for the Carnotaurus in a direct physical confrontation, it didn’t mean Bai Ye lacked the means to kill it.

Running forward rapidly, Bai Ye slapped the surrounding trees as he passed, leaving markers, and then…

Boom, boom, boom!

The moment the Carnotaurus charged forward…

Invisible blast!

Explosions sounded in quick succession, sending the Carnotaurus’s massive body tumbling to the ground, its skin surface sustaining blast wounds.

However, it was only for a fleeting moment.

After rolling a couple of times on the ground, the Carnotaurus quickly resumed its pursuit of Bai Ye, clearly possessing a much more robust body than the Velociraptors encountered earlier.

But as the Carnotaurus pursued again, frost mist began to drift across the ground ahead.

Condensing Frost Sword, Sword Manifests Frost!

Crack, crack!

As the Carnotaurus stepped into the frost mist, a layer of frost immediately appeared on its body, slowing its speed.

At that very instant, Bai Ye executed a slide step, forcibly bringing himself to a halt, a talisman clutched in his hand.

“Lightning Curse!”

As the talisman burned, a bolt of lightning suddenly descended from the heavens, striking the Carnotaurus fiercely.

A pained roar echoed, and within the lightning, the Carnotaurus shook its body violently.

“One isn’t enough?” Bai Ye grinned. “Then another one!”

Bai Ye quickly took out a second talisman, held it between his fingers, and shook it. Then, as the second talisman burned, the Lightning Curse was activated once more.

Boom!

Lightning flashed in the sky again, and a second bolt of lightning struck the Carnotaurus.

This time, the Carnotaurus could no longer hold on. Its massive body swayed, then crashed heavily to the ground, black smoke billowing from its entire form. After twitching for a while, it lay still.

Bai Ye let out a sigh of relief, casually waved his hand, recalling the Condensing Frost Sword, which had transformed into frost, and then surveyed his surroundings.

During his chase and escape with the Carnotaurus, Bai Ye found himself near a cluster of buildings.

This brought a flicker of joy to Bai Ye. Could there be people here?

The possibility was slim. This desolate place was now overrun with dinosaurs, and it was more likely that any survivors had already been eaten. However, the presence of buildings meant Bai Ye might be able to find food and fresh water.

But as Bai Ye stepped through the shattered glass and entered the building…

“Human, human, it’s really a human!”

Before Bai Ye could even discern what was inside the building, a voice suddenly rang out. Following the sound, Bai Ye saw a disheveled man running frantically towards him.

“Don’t come any closer!”

Bai Ye immediately pulled out his playing cards, holding them in his hand, and watched the man with great caution. It wasn’t just because of the man’s current disheveled, even ferocious appearance, resembling a demon.

It was because the man held a double-barreled shotgun, had a bandolier of bullets around his waist, and even two grenades tucked away.

“No, no, no, I mean no harm,” the man immediately raised his gun and said hastily, “I am Dr. Harding, you’re here to save me, right? You must have been sent to rescue me!”

Bai Ye pointed at the shotgun in the man’s hand, then at a nearby table, and said, “If you want to talk, point your gun sideways, place it on the table, and keep your hands visible to me at all times, understand?”

“Okay, okay, no problem!”

Dr. Harding agreed readily and slowly turned to set down his gun. However, as if remembering something, he raised it again.

“Hmm?”

Bai Ye instantly became wary again.

Dr. Harding said, “I can put down my weapon, but we can’t talk here. It’s too dangerous. We need to go somewhere safer.”

Bai Ye thought for a moment, then nodded, “Alright!”

Bai Ye gestured again, and Dr. Harding then placed his gun on a nearby metal table.

Bai Ye casually took the shotgun and slung it over his shoulder, then reached out and removed the grenades from Dr. Harding’s waist.

“Follow me.”

Dr. Harding called out, quickly leading Bai Ye to the side.

Only then did Bai Ye have the chance to observe his surroundings. This appeared to be a cafeteria. Passing through a corridor led to an office area, with many laboratories, resembling some kind of research center.

After traversing the office area, Dr. Harding led Bai Ye to an electronic door. After entering a password, a passage leading underground was revealed.

There was also space underground, which seemed to be another research area, but it had now presumably become a living space.

Bai Ye saw cans scattered everywhere, along with other discarded living waste in the corners, emitting a pungent odor. A metal experimental platform was directly repurposed as a bed, with a sleeping bag placed on it.

Dr. Harding said, “Alright, now we can talk. Who hired you? An investment company? Or the military? You’re here to help me, right?”

Bai Ye shrugged, “Sorry, I’m just passing by.”

Dr. Harding froze for a moment, then became agitated, “No, that’s impossible! Aren’t you here to save me?”

“That’s something we can discuss,” Bai Ye said, pointing at a nearby monitor. “You must have seen my fight through this, so I believe you have some understanding of my strength. That’s why you rushed to find me, isn’t it?”

There was a row of monitors on the side of the room, including footage of the area outside the buildings. Therefore, the man must have seen the footage of Bai Ye fighting the Carnotaurus.

Bai Ye continued, “However, I’d like to know what happened here first.”

Dr. Harding hesitated for a moment, then said, “I wanted to create an extraordinary park.”

Bai Ye chuckled, “Jurassic Park?”

“Yes, dinosaurs are the stars of this park,” Dr. Harding explained. “I gathered many renowned scientists, extracted dinosaur genetic information from the blood of ancient mosquitoes trapped in amber, and used this information to breed dinosaurs. And indeed, I succeeded as planned. You must have seen those creatures on your way here.”

“Uh-huh,” Bai Ye nodded. “But this scene doesn’t seem to fit the word ‘park’.”

“Yes!” Dr. Harding looked exceptionally distressed, putting a hand to his forehead. “As you can see, Jurassic Park had an accident, a major one at that.”
