Chapter 1898: Chapter 1898: A Gentle Sigh
Except for Starfire, everyone’s expressions changed drastically.
How could they not understand the power of a Forbidden Curse? Even a Quasi-Forbidden Curse is terrifying, let alone a true Forbidden Curse.
Not long ago, in a great battle, Li Yao, wielding the power of a demigod, cast a spell, though it wasn’t primarily lethal, turning two million enemy soldiers into his own, instantly causing the ogres to surrender.
The others, like Open Skies and Fleeting Glory, looked at Starfire worriedly, but seeing Starfire’s calm demeanor, they couldn’t help but admire her composure, maintaining her serenity even now.
They also recalled initially suggesting to Li Yao to use a Quasi-Forbidden Curse. As a super guild, they naturally had one, and offered to contribute it.
But Li Yao refused, and in that battle both sides were quite restrained, neither using a Quasi-Forbidden Curse, except the God of Ravens who broke the rule at the end.
They simply thought Li Yao didn’t want to destroy the city, as it was still something to conquer, and their own place too.
But later felt something was off, especially when they saw Li Yao collecting the corpses of the dead after the battle, only then realizing. Yet thinking back, it still felt wrong.
Seeing Starfire’s expression now, it was clearly not an act of forced calmness but genuine tranquility. This confused them. Did she plan to rely on a Barrier? Clearly impossible. There doesn’t seem to be such a Barrier here at Fated Doom. Even if repaired, it would be on the Sub-dimension home city side.
"If negotiations fail, then I apologize, let’s showcase the first truly player-cast Forbidden Curse spell on the battlefield with Starfire," Edward sighed, and his magic wand struck the ground sharply.
A fireball shot up into the sky, then exploded into a brilliant display of lights across the heavens.
Simultaneously, a harmonious chanting sound rose from the endless legions.
The chant was like the combined voices of countless people, yet seemed ethereal, as if separated by a barrier.
In the pitch-black night sky, a door of light seemed to appear, with stars dotting first, then an infinite gathering of starlight began.
The light grew brighter, increasingly dazzling.
"A million people casting a spell, quite the grand gesture. No wonder you are so confident," Starfire nodded.
Edward said, "Your guildmaster often destroys others’ cities, so Starfire should be prepared for destruction as well. Currently, the Worm Tribe army guards the Sub-dimension Ogre’s main city, leaving only the elite million Ogre troops and several million ordinary Ogres here. Though fewer in number, they are barely enough to accompany our destroyed cities in mutual destruction."
"Sister Starfire, what should we do?" Tongtong asked worriedly.
Starfire simply said, "Just watch the show. To think our home city would be a collateral, what audacity."
The crowd felt a bit reassured by Starfire’s words.
And in the distance, the light continued to grow radiant. The spells cloaking the aura and chanting could no longer withstand the tumultuous preparations of a pending Forbidden Curse.
Over a million spellcasters were bathed in an endless river of stars, that area seeming to transform into an infinite cosmic void.
Then a voice, grand to the extreme, overshadowed all other sounds. A terrifying pressure and aura making everyone feel breathless; this was enough to astonish, even though the spell hadn’t launched yet.
"Forbidden Curse: Falling Stars!"
This was nothing like the Balance Druid’s arcane energy forming tiny starlights, akin to a rain of light. Instead, the Balance spell mimics this Forbidden Curse, Falling Stars.
The originally pitch-black night became bright as noon, the stars in the sky sparkling with dazzling brilliance, turning the world into pure white.
Then abruptly dimmed, followed by countless sounds of breaking through the sky.
People couldn’t help but look up, seeing countless meteors trailing long silver flames, truly showing what it means for stars to fall like rain.
As the meteors manifested from the void, drawing closer to the ground, everyone could sense the terror they embodied, and the meteor shower covered almost the entire city.
Even the smallest of these meteors were giant rocks hundreds of meters across. Although continually burning, their density made them difficult to diminish.
The air temperature quickly rose; everyone knew that this seemingly beautiful, dreamlike meteor shower would soon bring endless disaster to the earth.
Boom!
The first meteor led far ahead of the others, leaving the rest in the dust.
This meteor fell first, but not within the city, instead landing outside the city walls.
With a blinding flash of white light and rampant flames, the deafening sound made everyone’s hearts tremble, and the ground shook.
As white flames skyrocketed, tens of thousands of troops attacking the city before the walls were evaporated.
Though a misfire, the United Army didn’t mind because anyone could see that the other meteors were headed for the city.
The power of one meteor was so immense, equivalent to an area spell from a world-level chief, not to mention the countless ones following.
At this moment, whether it was the majority of people in the city or those watching this scene live, everyone was stunned by the meteor shower. Nobody noticed the million spellcasters collapsing, utterly spent, drenched in sweat.
The viewers felt regret for Starfire; the main city and population they paid such a great price to acquire were about to be destroyed, a tremendous shame.
In the city, the millions of ogres and the craftsmen working on city repairs, along with Starfire players, were filled with unwillingness in their eyes.
And the United Army, especially their leading figures, wore vengeful smiles. Their heavy losses left them unable to resist Li Yao, suppressed until now, they finally had their revenge.
"Such a pity, Prairie Fire isn’t here; his main force isn’t here, and he didn’t see this scene," the Temple of a Thousand Gods’ guildmaster lamented.
The other guildmasters glanced at the meteors about to crash into the city, hinting at regret, the harsh break-through sounds drowning everything else out.
The several dozen meteors in the forefront were nearing the top of the city walls, their scorching aura drenching everyone in sweat.
The battle had long since halted; fleeing in such circumstances was futile. Only facing one’s fate remained, everyone stared blankly at the falling meteors.
Just as everyone thought this magnificent main city would be destroyed, a sigh resounded in everyone’s ears.
This sigh seemed to reach deep into the soul, even the piercing sky-breaking sounds couldn’t mask it, allowing everyone to hear it clearly.
The sound wasn’t loud, but ethereal, as if immersing with a faint sense of resignation and melancholy transmitted by the sigh.
Not only those on-site, but even the viewers instantly froze, affected by the sigh, immersing in the conveyed emotions.
Almost as if the voice plucked a heartstring, all emotions were cast aside, leaving only the emotions contained within the voice.
Many unconsciously touched their cheeks, feeling cool—unbeknownst to them, they had begun to cry...
