Chapter 215: Land ahoy!
The next few days were relatively calm for the open ocean. He told them about the city that he spotted underwater, and they were shocked to think that a city could even exist underwater. The sky was still pitch black, storms were still raging, and waves were still crashing into their ship, but as for monster attacks, none of them even posed a threat, and the ship’s defenses took care of them.
Kai did set the ship’s defenses to maximum after their run-in with the serpent, which also played a role in their ’smooth’ voyage.
It wasn’t until their 10th day that they finally could see land off in the distance.
"Kai! Oh my gosh! Kai! I see land! It’s land!" Kyana was on the crow’s nest, using a telescope to search for land. At first, Amaya wanted to do this, but she kept getting startled when lightning would strike, so she ran to her cabin to hide.
Kyana jumped off the crow’s nest, ran over to Kai, and kissed him all over his face.
"Land! MMMMWAHH! I love you! We’ve finally found land!"
’Poor Kyana. She had a rough ten days.’ Kai felt for her, but he was happy that she was feeling better.
"I wonder what kinds of people we’ll meet there." Gwen was also pretty excited to finally be done with this voyage. She and Nadya were talking about what they expected and what they hoped to see.
It took around another 3 hours for them just to reach the shore, then another hour for them to find a port to dock at. When they arrived, tons of people looked at them with confused expressions.
"Is it just me, or are they staring at us?" Sasha pointed at the people working on the docks.
Kai shrugged, not paying them any attention. "They probably just don’t recognize our ship or something like that. Come on, let’s get off."
All six of them flew off the ship as it then shrank into a miniature version of itself and disappeared into Kai’s inventory.
"S-Sorcery!" One of the men exclaimed in awe.
"Whoa! Sorcerers came to our town? That’s amazing!"
Amaya furrowed her brow. "Sorcerers?"
"Most likely the name for mages on this continent." Nadya assumed from their reaction to magic.
"We should ask them for directions or some information," Kyana suggested. "Let’s go find someone who can help."
"No need." Kai pointed to the group of people walking over to them. "We can get our answers from them."
"It’s a pleasure to meet you, noble sorcerers." The crowd bowed respectfully.
"What brings you six to our town? Do you need a place to stay? Food? Water, maybe?"
"No, no, everything is fine. We just need some information. Can you provide us with that?" Kai asked, also showing respect.
"It will be our pleasure. Please, follow us. We’ll take you to our mayor."
Kai nodded, and they all followed the man to the Mayor’s home.
Along the way, the six of them noticed how people looked at them. Some were amazed, while others were scared. Kai was able to quickly make an educated guess on how sorcerers were treated in this land.
They were highly respected, feared, and treated like nobles. But this also meant that they could treat others anyway they wanted, or at least get away with doing so. That would explain the scared faces.
As for the excited ones, they either didn’t know the dark side of sorcerers or they wanted to become one.
"We’ll have to take this canoe to continue. Will that be alright with you all? It’s a bit cramped, so I hope you don’t mind."
Kai smiled. "It’s alright, we’ve brought our own canoe. You can take us in this." He quickly purchased a canoe from his shop, decking it out with all the bells and whistles he would need for it, and placed it in the water.
The man was baffled. First, Kai shrank his massive ship and made it disappear. Now, he made a canoe appear, and it was the most luxurious canoe the man had ever seen. Not only that, but Kai was letting him steer it.
"I-It will be an honor!"
All seven of them got into the boat, and they rode down the water road that led to the Mayor’s home.
"So, what do you do for work?" Kyana asked, trying to probe the guy for information.
"I load ships for a living. We get a lot of trade around these parts, and it pays well, puts food on the table, and takes care of my family. When we saw your ship dock at our harbor, we were confused because we weren’t expecting any shipment until two days from now, but it turns out you six were sorcerers."
"What’s the name of this town?" Nadya chimed in.
"The island? It’s called Pearlwind. So, this town is also called Pearlwind."
’So the towns are named after the island. The same is probably the case with cities as well. As for villages, probably not, unless the island is only made up of villages.’ Kai made a mental note of that.
"Do you have a mercenary guild on this island?" Kai wondered. He was hoping they all could start working right away and not have to travel just to do so.
"Sure do, it’s at the center of the island. I’ll take you there after you visit the Mayor, if you are okay with that." The man offered. He was hoping to make a good impression on them, especially since he was the one who offered to help.
"We will gladly accept your offer...Excuse me, what is your name?"
"Carlo, sir."
Kai nodded. "Carlo, huh? Nice name."
"T-Thank you, sir."
During this time, Kai decided to check his mini map to see the shape of the continent. Sarkylla was in the shape of a rhombus. Of course, it wasn’t a perfect rhombus, but if you looked at the continent from a high altitude, it would remind you of one.
As for this continent, it had the shape of a circle, but it wasn’t a massive continent in the shape of a circle; it was a massive archipelago that had thousands of islands, with the largest island in the center of it all. And all the islands together form the shape of a circle.
’Woah! That’s fucking cool!’
