Chapter 323: Picking Up Cheesy Lines

Chapter 323: Picking Up Cheesy Lines

It feels like they are not even living here.

This was what his beast deduced after taking a look around the entire mansion. There was too little life in this mansion. Even if they had stretched themselves hard to prove that their lives were properly integrated with the humans, Killian could sense that something was lacking. And unless these people were outright fools, they would also notice it.

They had another reason for bringing me here.

His beast grunted in acknowledgement. You have become exceptionally smart now that you have started listening to me more.

Killian ignored him. Turning around, he looked at the woman who was working in the kitchen. His lips curved up in a flirty smile as he walked over to her, "What are you preparing?"

"I thought you two might be hungry, so I prepared some carbonara and mashed potatoes, Alpha Sokolov," replied Lisa, her breathing turning rigid and shallow.

"Thank you for looking out for the two of us. It looks delicious," He told Lisa, digging in the side that he had buried ever since he met with Inez. Now that he had someone he cared for, Killian felt it was too weird to flirt with someone else. Behind him, Finn stiffened.

He glanced at him with a look of sheer disbelief on his face, but it was not too blatant.

He must be thinking that you have lost your mind, his beast tittered. Glad someone was finding this funny.

Lisa, however, glanced away. "Thank you for the praise, Alpha Sokolov."

Killian smiled at the woman. Reaching out, he tucked a strand of her hair, mentally swearing that he was going to wash his hands clean with a sanitiser once he returned home. "I am surprised that you aren’t mated. A woman as beautiful and handy in the kitchen as you should have been snagged by a male by now." He kept his voice light and full of charm. Usually, any woman would have been flattered with this alone, but not Lisa.

She cleared her throat and glanced at Drakon, who was sitting on the couch with Finn, before turning to look at Killian. "I like my work more, Alpha Sokolov. With a man around, I will only get distracted."

"Of course," Killian agreed with her. Keeping his tone light, he walked around the aisle. He didn’t say anything to the woman but kept filing her reactions and responses in his mental database. Something was going on here.

Killian glanced at Finn, whose eyes were filled with reluctance, but when he glared at him, Finn sighed and got to his feet. He took Lisa’s hand in his and kissed the back of it. "Thank you for your hospitality. I have to say that it’s really sweet of you. Letting us stay in your home and even preparing a meal for us. Isn’t that right, Alpha?"

"Indeed." Killian sat down next to Drakon. He noticed the man going stiff as he clenched his hands on his lap

However, Killian didn’t acknowledge the abnormality and turned to look at the woman in the kitchen. He noticed how Finn had charmed the woman with his gentlemanly attitude, or maybe it was him whom she was resistant to. Because now that woman was blushing and giggling like a little schoolgirl.

’Just say that you are jealous that your charm didn’t work,’ his beast’s mocking voice echoed in his head, and Killian ignored it altogether.

His beast could say whatever he wanted, but he knew that the woman was simply resistant to him, and she had a reason for that. Her flushed face, batting eyelashes and softened tone told another story from the response that she gave him. Didn’t she say that a man would only make her distracted? But from the flirty looks that she was sharing with Finn, it didn’t seem like she was resistant to having a man in her life.

So why the lies?

"Shall we take a look at where you will be staying?" Drakon stood up and shot a glance at Lisa, who stiffened and pulled away from Finn even though she was unwilling.

"Sure." Killian stood up and followed Lisa to the second floor. The woman pointed to the three rooms that were side by side and said to them, "These three rooms are guest rooms. You can pick one which you want."

"What about you?" Finn asked. "Where do you sleep?"

The woman blushed. "On the right. That room belongs to me."

Finn glanced at the room that was at the end of the corridor and nodded. He leaned in closer and smiled at Lisa, "Are you up for sharing? I am scared of the dark."

Killian inwardly winced when he heard the remark. After all, this was the line that he had once used on many female shifters when Inez was not in his life, and honestly, now that he was hearing it from the mouth of his beta, he couldn’t help but find it cringeworthy.

He never knew that he sounded this irritating and inauthentic. But for the sake of letting the play go on, he could only turn a blind eye to everything. Behind him, Lisa flushed, if possible, even redder. A soft giggle left her lips, and Killian felt his eyes twitch. He wondered how it was possible for the woman to even fall for this shit, but then again, women often fell for his cheesy lines as well.

The performance was nauseating at best, but Killian continued to ignore the two. He knew that Finn was only doing it because he asked him to take over; if he showed any signs of discomfort or irritation, Finn would definitely stop putting up the act. The last thing he wanted was for his beta to start ignoring Lisa when, clearly, she was the only key to getting an answer to the current situation.

If only his beta were a bit more open-minded.

But he wasn’t.

So here they were.

Unfortunately.

Why did he even make him his beta, though?

Because he is the only one who can withstand your antics.
