Chapter 273: Chapter 148: The Time Has Come for Their Paths to Never Cross Again
What other thoughts could she possibly have about him? She no longer harbored any thoughts...
Getting out of bed, Rebecca Quentin washed up lightly and decided to go to the hospital where Mrs. Geoffrey had been yesterday.
Although Howard Geoffrey had assigned bodyguards to follow her, it seemed they weren’t restricting her freedom, so she wanted to go to the hospital to talk to Mrs. Geoffrey.
She truly missed her son; she didn’t have the patience to wait for him to come back...
Taking a taxi, Rebecca Quentin soon arrived at the hospital.
Holding a bouquet of flowers, Rebecca Quentin reached out to knock on the ward door, just then overhearing the conversation between Mrs. Geoffrey and Alice.
"Alice, don’t worry, Howard is most afraid of me being upset. He won’t anger me by getting together with Rebecca Quentin..."
"Aunt, please don’t do this next time. I really thought you’d fainted at the airport and scared me to death..."
"Ha, if I didn’t act realistically, how would you have called Howard over? Aunt was really worried you’d decide to give up because of Rebecca Quentin..."
"Aunt, I don’t want to use you to force Howard to marry me. I respect his choice. If he truly has Miss Quentin in his heart, I’ll bless him."
"You’re just too kind, always considering others... Alice, give Howard some time; he’ll surely return to you. Right now, he’s just lost and confused, who knows if Rebecca Quentin has used some seductive trick."
"I don’t think Miss Quentin is that kind of person..."
"Hm, if she’s not that kind of person, how would she be living in Howard’s apartment now..."
"She’s probably there to pick up Andrew!"
"That’s just an excuse. If she truly had no ulterior motives, she wouldn’t shamelessly climb into Howard’s bed."
Rebecca Quentin stopped listening at that point and reached out to knock on the door.
The conversation was interrupted, and abruptly, footsteps belonging to Alice approached.
Rebecca Quentin took a deep breath to hide her emotional state; the door opened just at that moment.
Alice was the first to greet, "Miss Quentin?"
Rebecca Quentin smiled faintly, "Miss Robinson, hello!"
Alice replied friendly, "Are you here to see Aunt?"
Rebecca Quentin answered honestly, "Sorry, I just have something I want to say privately to old Mrs. Geoffrey."
Alice nodded in agreement, "Alright, come in!"
Rebecca Quentin nodded and walked into the ward.
Alice quietly left, leaving only Mrs. Geoffrey and Rebecca Quentin in the room.
Mrs. Geoffrey’s face showed obvious displeasure upon seeing Rebecca Quentin, "What are you here for?"
Rebecca Quentin placed the bouquet in the vase on the bedside table, then walked in front of Mrs. Geoffrey and answered, "old Mrs. Geoffrey, whether you believe it or not, I came to New York just to pick up Andrew. I hope you’ll give Andrew back to me."
Mrs. Geoffrey wasn’t sick, and immediately sat up from the bed, angrily saying, "Don’t sound so righteous, Rebecca Quentin. I’ve always liked you. Even after knowing you’re Vivian Lindsey’s daughter, I tried not to make things hard for you... But I didn’t expect, like your mother, you’d be so shameless!!"
Even at that moment, Rebecca Quentin remained respectful, "old Mrs. Geoffrey, please don’t say that."
Mrs. Geoffrey sneered, "You don’t want me to say it because you’re afraid I’m hitting where it hurts, right?"
"old Mrs. Geoffrey..."
Rebecca Quentin wanted to say something, but Mrs. Geoffrey interrupted, "I wonder if anyone in the Quentin family isn’t shameless. Your mother was like that, and so are you, deliberately trying to cause trouble, knowing Howard already has Alice. How shameless of you to still cling to him even after Howard doesn’t want you anymore!"
Each word from Mrs. Geoffrey felt like a needle in Rebecca Quentin’s heart, especially the last two sentences causing her extreme pain.
Seeing Rebecca Quentin lower her head, Mrs. Geoffrey spoke coldly, "What, nothing to say?"
Mrs. Geoffrey didn’t know that tears were still swirling in Rebecca Quentin’s eyes.
She didn’t look at Mrs. Geoffrey because she didn’t want her to see this helpless scene. So she swallowed the pain in her throat and calmly replied, "old Mrs. Geoffrey, honestly, you can rest assured. Ever since I knew Howard was with me only to retaliate against the Quentin family, I never thought of being with Howard again..."
Mrs. Geoffrey shouted angrily, "And you dare say such things. If you truly didn’t want to be with Howard, what is it now that you’re living in Howard’s apartment?"
Rebecca Quentin replied truthfully, "I was forced by your son. If you don’t believe me, feel free to ask the two bodyguards who are now outside guarding me."
Mrs. Geoffrey immediately replied, "Rebecca Quentin, no matter what you say now, I won’t believe it... If you really want me to believe you, you must prove you don’t care about Howard anymore."
Rebecca Quentin asked, "How do you want me to prove it?"
Mrs. Geoffrey answered irritably, "You figure it out yourself!"
Rebecca Quentin nodded, "Fine, if I can prove it to you, will you give Andrew back to me?"
"Of course, Andrew’s custody rightfully belongs to you... Before you prove yourself, you can rest assured; as Andrew’s grandmother, I will take care of him properly."
"How do I know you won’t be deceiving me? You said before you wanted Andrew back in the Geoffrey family."
Mrs. Geoffrey looked at Rebecca Quentin with cold eyes, "I’m too old to lie, especially since if I want a grandson, Howard and Alice will give me one in the future."
Mrs. Geoffrey’s words stirred a new wave of emotion within Rebecca Quentin.
Thinking of how well she once got along with Mrs. Geoffrey, now like enemies, hurt Rebecca Quentin deeply.
Not allowing herself to show too much of her low mood in front of Mrs. Geoffrey, Rebecca Quentin spoke with a calm tone, "old Mrs. Geoffrey, if there’s nothing else, I will leave first. Please make sure someone is taking good care of Andrew."
"I naturally know." Mrs. Geoffrey replied coldly.
Rebecca Quentin dismissed her worries and turned to leave.
As she stepped out of the hospital, tears fell from her eyes.
Since having her child, she hadn’t felt such distress...
She never imagined there could be a new ending for her and Howard, yet those cold-hearted words from Mrs. Geoffrey still hurt her precisely...
Howard doesn’t want you anymore, yet you still shamelessly cling to him...
If she could, she truly wished to go to a place where no one knew her, take Andrew, and never have any connection with the Geoffrey family again...
