Chapter 274: Chapter 149: Does She Miss Him?
France, Paris.
In an open-air luxury club, two impeccably dressed men are seated, exuding an extraordinary demeanor.
Skyler Jones leaned back in his chair, looked at the person opposite him, with a slight worry in his expression, and said faintly, "It seems that the Hope City project is not so easy to win..."
Howard Geoffrey, similarly reclining, appeared calm with a glass in hand, unlike Skyler’s concern, his face showing no change whatsoever.
Skyler furrowed his brows, "I’ve always found this matter strange... Robinson has always been good with you, and when he negotiated with me in Y City, there were no issues. But last night at the bidding party, according to the numbers he previously gave me, I ended up tying with ’Gobea’. Something’s definitely off here."
Indeed, with Robinson providing insider information to Skyler, as long as Skyler bid within the maximum profitable range given by Robinson, "Oversky" wouldn’t have much trouble securing the Hope City project. Yet, who would’ve thought that the French "Gobea" company would bid the exact same amount as "Oversky"...
Such a coincidence at this timing is hard to come by; the only possibility is that Robinson had also provided the same insider information to "Gobea" while giving it to "Oversky"!
Howard Geoffrey took up the wine glass and sipped the red wine slowly, then gently said, "Robinson has already called me to explain that he himself didn’t expect ’Gobea’ to bid that accurately."
Skyler snorted, "Clearly this explanation is just a cover-up!"
Howard Geoffrey remained non-committal.
At that moment, Skyler seemed to suddenly recall something, and earnestly asked, "Are you still seeing Robinson’s niece, Alice Robinson?"
Geoffrey lifted his eyelids and glanced at Skyler, "Why are you asking?"
Skyler answered, "I heard Robinson dotes on this niece. His sudden betrayal must be because of your recent changes in relationship with Alice."
Howard Geoffrey did not reply.
Seeing Howard’s reaction, a slight grimness appeared on Skyler’s cool and resolute face, as he suppressedly said, "Though I don’t believe the newspaper reports about Becca going to New York to reconcile with you, I can confirm the photos of her entering and leaving your apartment are real, or it wouldn’t have upset Alice."
Being sensitive, Howard Geoffrey slanted his half-narrowed dark eyes over, "Are you concerned about not securing your project, or are you worried that Rebecca Quentin is currently with me?"
Skyler unreservedly stated, "What methods did you use to force Becca to come to New York to find you?"
Howard Geoffrey let out a derisive laugh, "Why do you think I forced her to come? Can’t she come looking for me?"
Skyler’s expression turned stern, "I know her well; if not forced, she wouldn’t come to you!"
"It seems..." Howard’s smile deepening, "Even with Christine Quinn by your side, you still can’t prevent yourself from caring for her."
Skyler firmly said, "I won’t allow anyone to hurt her!"
Howard Geoffrey gently placed his wine glass on the table, a flash of emotion passing through his eyes, though his expression remained unchanged, and languidly said, "Indeed, Rebecca Quentin didn’t come to New York specifically to find me, but her coming to find me was my intended goal."
Skyler stared at Geoffrey in disbelief, "You..."
Howard’s previously expressionless face finally showed a faint smile, "Brother, I finally understand why you were so deeply attached to her; she really can unknowingly penetrate one’s heart, making it impossible to extricate oneself."
Skyler uneasily rose and directly said, "I don’t believe you have genuine feelings for her!!"
Howard Geoffrey remained at ease in the large chair, his thin lips faintly articulating, "I can understand you, but I didn’t expect that I would genuinely develop feelings... so, you no longer need to worry about her; in this lifetime, she will only be my woman!"
Skyler gently chuckled, "I don’t think you can declare the ending right now."
Howard laughed as well, "If you could win her heart, back when she was trying to date you in Y City, she would’ve fallen into your arms, but she didn’t, which shows from beginning to end, her heart has only had me."
"You’re talking about the past. Now, what she feels for you is only hatred."
"Is that so?" Howard said indifferently, "If there truly was hatred, she wouldn’t have spent her first night in New York in bed with me."
