Chapter 157: The Green-Eyed Monster
As Simon spoke, he swung the knife at Yvonne, trying to slash her face.
"Get away!" Yvonne shouted and struggled desperately.
However, her physical strength was no match for Simon’s. Before she could break away, he pinned her down by force again.
Yvonne felt a shiver down her spine.
This time, without the GPS tracker Shirley gave her, she couldn’t reach Zachary, which meant she was completely on her own. She could do nothing but pray.
The sharp blade had cut through her skin, causing an excruciating pain. She closed her eyes, her whole body trembling in fear.
"What should I do?" she forced herself to think as fast as possible.
In her previous life, Simon kidnapped her because of his grudges against Zachary. He believed Zachary was so heartless as to treat Yeliz kindly despite the death of their mother. As a result, he abducted Yvonne to put Zachary on the horns of a dilemma - it was either his family or the love of his life.
This time, Simon struck her for probably the same reason.
After a brief moment of reflection, she became aware that her only option was to make a desperate struggle.
"You must not hurt me! If Zachary no longer wants me, how can I avenge my mother? If I lose all my advantages, how can I make that mistress pay for what she did? I cannot accept this! I must make that woman crash and burn!" as Yvonne shouted frantically, Simon paused as she expected.
The word "mistress" had probably triggered him, but obviously, the influence was not powerful enough to make him drop the blade.
"Shut up!"
"I will not! Every mistress in this world deserve to die! And I will see justice done! If you hurt me, no one will be there to stop my father’s mistresses. Only I can defend my mother’s honor, and therefore you shall not hurt me!"
This time, Simon did stop.
He came to the realization that if he truly hurt Yvonne, he would end up in jail. Once in jail, no one would be there to defend his mother’s honor and visit her grave.
Zachary would fulfill his duty as a son, but Simon didn’t believe that he harbored the same kind of hatred.
Jack, Yeliz, and all the others who caused his mother’s misery, Simon hated them with all his heart. He would not let them get away with it!
And he could not afford to make a single mistake!
Feeling his hesitation, Yvonne knew her strategy worked.
"Mr. Simon, I beg for your mercy. I admit that I have an ulterior motive. I want revenge."
What she said was partially true. Her urges for revenge had compromised her relationship with Zachary. Zoila and her other enemies did exist in this world, but had no connections with her.
However, since Yvonne had taken care of them in real life, her enemies would be finished sooner or later. It was only a matter of time.
Simon answered, "You want revenge? How are you going to do that?"
Yvonne let out a cold sneer as she said, "There is no bad woman in this world that I can’t handle. Even Sarah will fail completely if I wish. Recently, she has been quarreling with my father on a daily basis, and soon they will divorce. I’m the mastermind behind it all!"
Yvonne was lying. She had never seen Sarah in this life, but she heard that Sarah was having a difficult time.
If she did not intervene, Sarah would be digging her own grave soon. Simon was somehow impressed by her. "I can let you go, but on one condition."
...
"On what condition?" asked Yvonne.
Simon raised his eyebrows and said, "I happen to hate those home-wreckers too, especially one of them. She’s as despicable as your stepmother, only younger."
Yvonne realized he must be talking about Yeliz, but she shouldn’t have known anything about her at the time.
So she just played dumb and asked, "What do you want me to do?"
But Simon did not give her any details. "You will be informed on a need-to-know basis," said he.
Then he let her go.
To her surprise, nothing really happened to her this time. She breathed a sigh of relief.
With a dead phone and no money in her pocket, she could only take the bus.
On the bus, she pondered over Simon’s words and expressions.
She knew that his enemy was Yeliz. Since Yeliz was supposed to be taken care of by her in real life, she didn’t need to worry about her again. But of course, she wouldn’t share any of the information with Simon.
Yvonne had another two miles to walk to the Lord Villa after getting off the bus. When she finally saw the courtyard, she was so tired and hungry that she was in a daze.
Before she could enter the house, she stopped at the sight of the man. Zachary’s grim countenance sent a shiver down her spine. Standing tall in the courtyard, he radiated a callous aura.
"Are you... Are you waiting for me?" asked she.
His expression didn’t change as he showed her his phone. "Simon has sent this to me."
It was a picture of Yvonne, in which she sat on the ground helplessly, her hair and clothes in disarray.
"What a jerk! He sneaked a picture of me!"
Zachary continued to say, "He said you two have sealed a secret deal."
"What?"
In this life, Yvonne shouldn’t have known about Simon and his relationship with Zachary.
But she remembered Simon had said that he was the last person Zachary would want to see...
"You better tell me the truth."
As expected, Zachary snapped again. The love of his life came back in a state of disarray after disappearing for a long time, involved in some shady deal with another man. No wonder his expression was so dark.
"There’s no secret deal. He threatened me and forced me..."
Before she could finish her sentence, he kissed her in a possessive manner.
She was not used to his intimate behaviors in this life. They had barely shared kisses so far. It was like her first kiss, her eyes widened and her heart beating like a drum.
"Don’t get entangled with any other man but me!"
Yvonne could only agree with whatever he said.
Seeing her messy hair and wrinkled shirt, he suddenly felt a surge of irritation.
Without saying another word, he picked her up and headed towards the second floor.
It was passionate and exhausting. Soon after, Yvonne slipped into a deep sleep.
Her dreams seemed to be especially sweet, for she showed a faint smile as she slept.
She never expected Zachary would be jealous of Simon.
The very idea of her and Simon together was ridiculous.
But she also found the green-eyed monster inside of him quite adorable.
However, she didn’t realize his jealousy was actually reasonable.
...
The next day, Yvonne’s schedule was full.
Once her single - "Heroine" was released, it had been a trending topic on the Internet.
Within a few days, it made to Top 50 in Angrish music charts, and it kept rising in the rankings.
Today, she would visit the studio and take some pictures for her single. These pictures were going to be used in all kinds of marketing activities, and therefore were quite important to her.
The pictures of her first official photo shooting would determine the public’s first impression of her, which was not to be trifled with.
Standing in the studio, Yvonne was dressed in a set of black suits, rebellious and delicate at the same time.
The stylist dyed her hair black and got inspired by Audrey Hepburn’s retro style. Her dark locks and red lips made a beautiful contrast, giving her a very unique charm.
The photographer didn’t expect her to be so photogenic and couldn’t stop singing her praises.
"Good! Very good, one more."
"Another one."
"Yes, that’s the feeling I want! Keep going..."
...
With those deep eyes, it was effortless for her to deliver good photos.
Everything went very smoothly. People were surprised that she scored so high for her first shooting.
The photographer reviewed his work with satisfaction. In disbelief, he asked again, "Ms. Taylor, is this truly your first shooting? You look rather experienced!"
"Really? Thank you," Yvonne answered with a shy smile on her face.
She wouldn’t tell anyone she was the celebrity endorser for Belline’s fragrance line in her prelife.
Being a celebrity endorser taught her how to show her best side in front of a camera, and that was why she nailed the shooting today.
When she finished the work and began to pack her things, an excruciating pain struck her lower abdomen.
In severe pain, she fell to the ground, her face sickly pale.
Someone saw it and ran over immediately.
"What’s wrong? Are you unwell?"
"My... My stomach hurts."
Yvonne gritted her teeth.
She had never been in such sharp pain before. She didn’t feel like anything wrong with her stomach or intestines. The killing pain was from her lower belly.
"Make way. Please make way."
Ralph heard the noises and came over at once.
He knelt down beside her and asked, "How are you feeling? Where does it hurt?"
Yvonne told him everything.
Ralph’s countenance was very serious as he called the ambulance. He comforted her, "Don’t worry. The ambulance will be here soon." Then he said to someone, "Help her to the sofa please."
Half an hour later, Zachary arrived at the hospital, still dressed in a black suit. He strode through the corridors filled with the pungent smell of sterile water with a serious expression. It seemed like he came straight from the office.
As soon as he saw Ralph, he asked, "What’s going on?"
"We don’t know yet. The doctor is still checking."
As they spoke, the doctor came out.
"Which one is the family of the patient?"
"I am."
"What is your relationship with the patient?"
The doctor couldn’t tell their relationship from his appearance. The patient was only 18, but the man in front of him must have been over 30 despite his handsome face.
