Chapter 332: Chapter 332: I’m Doing This for Your Own Good
What a mockery.
Susie Sommers watched Claudia Pierce lowering herself, the word "mother" rolled in her heart, but disappeared in an instant.
When did she stop calling her that?
Was it when Claudia discovered her secret in high school, giving her a slap and forcing her to quit the online community, severing ties with Silas Master Moore, and ultimately breaking off entirely?
Or was it when, fearing her stepfather would find out and shake her status in the Master Moore family, Claudia forcibly sent her abroad to high school for three years, not allowing her to return?
Yet each time, Claudia had an overwhelming argument that left Susie breathless.
And that was—
"I’m doing this for your own good."
Outside the main building.
Ann Vaughn waited in slight boredom, sitting on a floral vine chair and playing with her phone, when she suddenly heard a familiar elderly voice.
"Annie."
She looked up and saw Old Mr. Saxon with his hands behind his back, kindly looking at her. She immediately stood up and greeted him, "Old Mr. Saxon, are you here for the engagement ceremony too?"
"Indeed, I didn’t expect to see you here." He smiled kindly and asked with concern, "You must have felt wronged about last night, those fools at the headquarters don’t know what they’re doing!"
"But don’t worry, I’ve had a word with their superior, let’s see if they’ll dare next time!"
Upon hearing this, Ann Vaughn’s eyes curved with a smile, "Thank you, Old Mr. Saxon. It’s thanks to you that everything went smoothly."
Not only the Saxon Family but also the Jennings Family and Levitt Family helped a lot.
Ann remembered all of this.
And the Hawthorne Family...
Thinking of this, a bittersweet feeling arose in her heart, indescribable.
"What’s there to thank?" Old Mr. Saxon stroked his white beard, seeing her oblivious look, and sighed, "Do you remember the story I told you before?"
"You mean the Dragon Marrow Jade?" Ann Vaughn thought for a moment, "I remember."
It seemed like the story about a man who commissioned Old Mr. Saxon to carve a jade tile, who for power and career, forced his wife and newborn daughter to death.
But since it was just a story, she didn’t take it to heart, yet Old Mr. Saxon brought it up again.
"Actually, back then, I mixed in some falsehood due to personal reasons." He sat down on the floral vine chair, gesturing for Ann Vaughn to sit as well, and continued, "The man’s wife in the story was someone I watched grow up."
"She didn’t give birth to just one daughter, but twins. Yet it’s undeniable that the man abandoned his family for power and status!"
Ann Vaughn suddenly understood something, "Are you talking about Marinia’s wealthiest Sheridan Family?"
Old Mr. Saxon opened his eyes slightly and nodded, "Exactly."
"Then I understand, you want to remind me to stay away from this family, right?" Ann Vaughn smiled softly. Even without his hint, she was determined to steer clear of the Sheridan Family.
Even with Eli Sheridan, she intended to keep her distance.
No matter what, they were family.
"As long as you understand." Old Mr. Saxon’s eyes revealed some nostalgia, "Whenever I see you, I think of..."
The well-behaved little girl who called him Grandpa Saxon, as if she were still alive.
"Annie!"
Susie Sommers, coming out of the main building, jogged over when she saw Ann Vaughn. Seeing Old Mr. Saxon, she greeted him, "Hello, Grandpa Saxon."
"Susie, still full of energy." He smiled, standing with his hands behind his back, "Send my regards to your parents for me."
Susie nodded while pulling Ann Vaughn, complaining, "What were you talking about with Grandpa Saxon just now? I called you several times."
"Just some old stories." Remembering the story, Ann Vaughn didn’t feel like repeating it, it left an uncomfortable feeling, "I just heard the music from the hall, is the ceremony about to start?"
"Oh no! I almost forgot!"
By the time they reached the hall, the ceremony had already started.
The red carpet stretched from the innermost part to the door, adorned with white jade pillars at intervals on both sides. Romantic violin music filled the air.
Being the last to enter, they drew quite a bit of attention when finding their seats.
Especially Ann Vaughn in a little black dress, exquisitely beautiful like a proud little swan, poised as if ready to dance.
Her lightly made-up face was delicate and flawless, captivatingly beautiful.
Beside her, despite Susie’s usually carefree demeanor, when she dressed like a lady, elegance seemed to exude from her very bones.
Her charm mixed with a playful vibe naturally caught eyes.
For a moment, all attention that should have been on Leona Chambers was drawn to the two of them instead.
Leona almost ground her teeth in anger, digging her nails into her palms to maintain her composure in front of so many guests.
Susie, that conniving woman, dared to steal her spotlight at such an important moment!
Unwilling, Leona wanted to seek help from Silas Master Moore but saw he wasn’t even glancing at Susie, which comforted her immensely.
She owned all of Ethan’s love, what could Susie possibly compete with?
Why should she bother with a clown who couldn’t even make it on stage?
The emcee, noticing Leona’s gesture, quickly drew the guests’ attention back, "Next, we will show the fifty-two romantic moments of Miss Leona Chambers and Mr. Silas Moore’s love story, please watch the screen."
With that, screens descended on either side of the guest seating, and projection began.
The video beautifully captured moments of Leona Chambers and Silas Master Moore embracing or kissing.
Ann Vaughn just glanced at it, then looked away, frowning at the chat screen on her phone.
Last night... did Cyrus Hawthorne really not go to the police headquarters?
Yet she distinctly remembered seeing him.
But if he went, would he have just let Mark Joyce send her home?
Ann bit her lip, her mind a tangled mess she couldn’t seem to unravel.
Just then, she heard strange moans coming from above.
Looking up, she saw the image on the screen, originally showing an MV, had changed to an unimaginably explicit scene!
And the female lead was Leona Chambers!
Ann quickly turned her gaze away, catching a glimpse of Leona’s pale face on stage, sharply ordering the projection to be turned off, while Silas Master Moore stood by with no apparent reaction.
