Chapter 127: A Request From Lucien
It wasn’t too bad to be back here again since Lucien was a rather friendly guy to talk with.
"Nice to see you as well. I’d like to talk with you a bit." I say with a bit of calmness in my voice.
Keeping calm always feels like the proper way to go about everything since I don’t want to seem weak to anyone. Being excited around this many people or getting nervous could cause problems.
But I guess people already think I’m weak anyway so maybe it doesn’t make much of a difference in the end.
"Perfect, follow me then." He responds before leading the way.
I followed him for a minute until we reached his office or whatever you call it. It was hard to remember where we talked with him last.
"Everyone take a seat. I see you have a few different people with you this time but we’ve got some stuff to talk about." Lucien instructs while taking a seat himself.
"I appreciate you for having us." I respond politely.
An hour of catching him up on everything that happened in Elyndra passed by. He seemed to be surprised that the war could be prevented by me.
He didn’t necessarily doubt me but he didn’t know me well enough to guarantee that it would be successful.
"That was a lot to take in, but I’m more than happy to help with whatever information I already know. Just need you to do something for me as well." Lucien says while crossing his arms.
It wasn’t really that surprising that He’d have a request for us since I’ve proven that we can be reliable. I don’t mind it if it also helps us out with our journey.
He’s caught up on everything that occurred in Elyndra so that’s done and over with.
Maybe the opportunity to see if anything else is brewing would be smart. He probably knows about anything going on down here anyway.
Great idea. I do want to handle some of the other problems while getting stronger.
"What exactly do you need from me?" I question with a bit of curiosity.
"A gang of powerful hunters is starting to cause some issues, I didn’t want to bring it up to the others with the tower situation so it felt better asking you to help handle it. You seem pretty capable based on what you told me about Elyndra." Lucien responds with a more serious tone.
"What exactly are they doing to cause these issues?" I ask, curiosity still obvious in my voice.
"They are killing innocent people that try to make their way to the city. Some tech has also been stolen recently by them as well, they aren’t exactly easy to catch." Lucien answers.
"We’ll take care of them." Akina speaks up with a bit of excitement in her voice.
"Great. Once you handle them, I’ll give you all the information I can about whatever it is you want. Hahaha." Lucien responds before letting out a laugh.
A guy with a look as intimidating as his would definitely surprise me to see laughing like this if I hadn’t met him already. No one else probably believes that he is like this sometimes.
"Well, we’re heading off then. Any specific direction to head in to find this gang?" I ask while standing by the door.
"South of the city. That’d be the only place I could imagine they’d be in." Lucien answers without any hesitation in his voice.
I wave to him before leaving the office with the others. We left the guild hall after that and made our way back through the busy streets of Nyxhaven.
The girls talked a bit about Lucien since they were curious why we came to him in the first place. Except Ghost, she already knew Lucien from the previous trip so it wasn’t anything new.
But I couldn’t help keeping an eye on the people around us since you don’t know who is actually worth trusting sometimes.
There could be someone lurking in the crowd... Waiting for a chance to attack us.
Attacking in a city like this would be impractical without the proper amount of people. Hunters are also to abundant here for a single person or even a small group to attack.
I’d still say that it’s possible for someone to plan an attack here, even with a small group. Sometimes it also depends on how powerful the group is, because a group made of S ranks can probably make a pretty big difference against a bunch of hunters.
Plus, you have to factor in whatever kind of powers, magic, or talent that they have too.
There is a lot to factor in but the same goes for them since they don’t know what the other hunters have here.
Exactly why I’m on guard either way since I don’t want to be hit with a surprise attack. The caution will help out either way so it isn’t a big deal to be like this.
"It’ll be nice to take out some shitty people." Velia speaks up, still keeping her usual tone.
"I agree. We just have to be careful, there’s no telling how strong they are." I respond with a bit of caution.
Bloodlust could also become a problem if I end up killing any of those people. It’s also still a problem that weighs on me quite a bit after awhile.
I’ve never been on board with killing people before but I know that we have to in our world. The thoughts about it haven’t been that bad lately since I’ve been distracted.
It’ll definitely cause some strange nightmares again at some point, I don’t know how people can kill without a care in the world.
Finally we made it out of the city, it was time to follow the road south until we got some idea of where this gang could be. Lucien didn’t really give us a name so it would be a bit difficult to figure out if they are the people or not.
The road was pretty quiet though, probably because everyone was heading the opposite direction for the tower.
Yet, I couldn’t help but wonder where the new monsters are. People weren’t the only concern on my mind since the monsters have gone through an evolutionary phase.
"Something seems to be in the distance Rokuro." Velia points out while drawing her sword.
Focusing on the figure in the distance I could see something massive. It only took a few moments for it to come into our line of sight.
A giant monster stood tall in the distance. Absurdly long legs, a deformed chest with different limbs pertruding out from it, bulky arms like someone who worked out in the gym 24/7, and a small head with one red eye looking towards us.
You were wondering when you’d see a monster again, guess you get to see one now.
I just thought it was shocking that we haven’t seen any lately but it didn’t mean that I wanted to see one! They also can be pretty damn strong so I don’t exactly look forward to seeing them.
It is also one ugly ass monster too. Those evolutions only made them even more disgusting.
Also means it doesn’t have a name to refer to it as either so that’s also going to be something for us to do. We’ve also got no clue what it’s capable of yet either.
Monsters are always so mysterious and it took quite some time for the hunters to figure out everything about the previous ones.
"I guess we get to kill a monster today." Velia says while gripping her sword.
"It’s definitely interesting to see the new ones." Akina chimes in while her pistol forms in her hand.
Even Ghost already had her sword in her hands, ready to go. I guess everyone is ready to fight against this thing, everyone except me.
It isn’t even moving towards us anymore after spotting us. It’s almost like it turned to stone with how still it is.
"What do you want to do here Rokuro?" Ghost asked, concern in her voice.
"We’ll have to wipe it out but let’s give it a minute. I’m curious why it stopped moving all of a sudden." I responded while staring at the monster.
I also don’t know if there’s any other ones lurking in the shadows around us so it would be good to wait a minute. Maybe the other ones will appear if that’s the case.
I’m pretty confident that we can handle them either way since Akina is definitely one of the strongest members of the group.
At least until I see what ghost is capable of and until I push past my limits. Velia also might be hiding her true strength from us but I’m not sure.
Everything is still quite the mystery to me.
I can definitely sense a couple more of them around us.
Oddly enough... I could sense them around us as well so I knew there was more than one.
