Chapter 74 Zeus's Judgment

The Ocean God revealed his intention to retire during a conversation with his daughter, feeling guilty for his long absence from his wife and daughters.

Oceanus, who never resided on the divine mountain for long, had his wife Tethys leave their cherished daughters for him, yet her heart still yearned for them. The Ocean God did not wish for his wife to be consumed by loneliness in the desolate outer reaches of the world, as he was. Therefore, he planned to abdicate his position as chief god and his responsibility of guarding the earth to spend quality time with his wife.

His two outstanding grandsons were naturally the primary candidates to succeed him as chief gods. Oceanus entrusted his network of connections to his descendants, seeing it as both a test and a fortune. Regardless of who inherited his chief god position, the other would not be left empty-handed.

The Ocean God's thoughtful efforts paved the way for his grandsons. Although Tyche disliked these meaningless social events, she did not consider her father's painstaking efforts a burden and thus left the choice to her sons.

The Mnemosyne suddenly uttered a statement that left Tyche dumbfounded.

"I am also willing to share the position of chief god with your sons!"

In the eyes of the gods, the new Sky Goddess could be described as both intelligent and courageous. Even when she possessed only moderate divine power, she could contend with the powerful Goddess of Radiance. Through her own efforts, she seized the divine office of the sky from Uranus, ascended to powerful divine strength, and then naturally succeeded her mother to become the chief god.

The power of fate granted her a broad perspective, making the thoughts of this new chief god inscrutable to anyone. This was also why the goddesses of the sea lineage continued to be respected by the gods even after Tethys's retirement.

Now, this profound goddess, upon hearing the Mnemosyne's proposal, almost lost her composure.

Tyche controlled the expression on her face, calming herself for a moment before retorting, "To retain the position of chief god, you are even willing to become Kanna's wife?"

Mnemosyne's face remained impassive, as if her proposal were the most natural thing in the world. She raised an eyebrow nonchalantly, "Your sons are both capable."

Tyche suppressed the urge to blurt out, "You are from different generations, and they are still children!"

Feeling a pang in her teeth, Tyche immediately wanted to refuse. However, remembering that this goddess would become one of Zeus's wives in the original fate, she swallowed the words that were about to escape her lips.

After much deliberation, Tyche decided to ask her sons for their opinions. After explaining to the waiting Mnemosyne, she pulled her sons away from her father to a secluded corner.

Tyche relayed Mnemosyne's words verbatim to her sons, adding, "This is a very important choice. I hope you will consider the consequences of this choice carefully!"

Kanna and Zeus exchanged glances. Kanna, as the elder brother, gave his answer.

"Let Zeus take it. I do not wish to be bound by responsibilities I do not want to bear."

Kanna said with a sigh, "This goddess clearly brings a lot of trouble. I don't want to spend my hunting time dealing with these unnecessary matters."

Tyche had anticipated her elder son's choice and looked at Zeus with concern.

The God of Thunder pondered for a moment, resting his chin on his hand. "The Mnemosyne wants to use her mother's power to drive out the God of Love, but why doesn't she choose Atlas, the God of Strength?"

Tyche knew this was related to the power struggles of the primordial gods but could not say it directly. She could only subtly remind her son, "Atlas's mother, Clymene, received a prophecy from me. The price for his ascension to powerful divine strength is the loss of freedom and the suffering of supporting the heavens. Only Uriah's power can save him."

Zeus nodded. "Therefore, Iapetus and Atlas are indebted to the Earth Mother, and perhaps they have already secretly sided with Gaia. And Mnemosyne has always been close to Gaia. It is not surprising that she knows this."

Zeus's gaze was piercing as he drew a sharp conclusion. "It seems there is already a rift between Mnemosyne and Gaia. If not, she should have considered her allies first."

Tyche felt a surge of pride once more. Zeus, under her tutelage, had become an excellent politician. The goddess affirmed that her son would be an outstanding leader, at least more strategic than the previous two divine kings. What decision a leader would make was already self-evident.

Having prepared herself mentally, Tyche waited with difficulty for Zeus to make his choice.

"I believe we should refuse the Mnemosyne's proposal."

Tyche looked sharply at her stern-faced son and couldn't help but ask him the reason for his choice.

"She could have offered only the position of chief god as a condition, so why must she become my wife or Kanna's?"

"Do you think she is trying to gain our trust?"

Tyche smiled. "My clever son, suspicion is not always beneficial. Every gain is accompanied by an equivalent risk, and even the Goddess of Fate cannot guarantee that the dice in her hand will always bring good luck."

The goddess said with a smile, "I hope my sons will meet the people they love, but true affection must be exchanged with true affection. Your suspicion will become a silent rejection, perhaps pushing away those who love you."

Relieved, Tyche returned to her throne and presented her condition. "Your Highness Mnemosyne, I will help you one more time, and you do not need to share the position of chief god. I only ask that you swear to help me wholeheartedly three times. Whenever I need it, no matter the circumstances, you must provide me with assistance!"

Themis sensed something and opened her eyes to look at the two chief gods with heavy expressions.

"Your Highness, do not try to deceive a Goddess of Fate! If you break your oath, the due price of fate will come into my hands in another way. Believe me, you will not want to see such a result."

Seeing the divine power of fate surging around Tyche, Mnemosyne gritted her teeth and agreed to Tyche's request.

"I swear to help Tyche wholeheartedly three times! In exchange, Tyche needs to resolve my current predicament."

Taking the thread of causality of the Mnemosyne into her palm, Tyche responded with satisfaction, "I swear by the name of fate, I will solve this trouble for you."

Although she had transformed from an observer to a participant, Tyche now had a way to counter Pontus.

The chaos on the high platform was nearing its end. During the time Tyche and Mnemosyne made their oath, the battle among the male gods was almost over.

Asteria was puzzled as to why Tyche wasn't paying attention to this grand spectacle when she saw her friend, who had been in a deep conversation with the Mnemosyne, leave her throne and come to the center of the hall.

The goddess raised the scepter representing the chief god in her hand and sternly rebuked the male gods who were in disarray, "O gods blinded by desire, look at your pathetic state! Your actions have brought shameful defilement to the radiance of the divine mountain!"
