Chapter 813 "Monster"
Nightingale's vision suddenly opened up.
Other evil beasts hesitated after witnessing this astonishing scene. They no longer frantically surrounded her as before, but paused and growled, seemingly in awe of her.
These hybrid species felt fear.
The monster suspended from the cave ceiling waved its tentacles and roared furiously, but its urging had little effect. Only the sickle monsters obeyed its orders, and even they were weak – with only three survivors, they could no longer threaten Nightingale's movements. The tight defense line was now fragmented.
No enemies could stop her anymore.
Nightingale mustered the little magic power left in her body and rushed towards the center of the dome.
As the distance closed, she finally understood what Fran meant by "deformed."
Rather than being a creature, it was more like a pile of exposed organs. It had no skin or muscle tissue visible. Vein-filled intestines, tentacles, and unidentifiable organs were stacked layer upon layer, making it look grotesque and terrifying.
The plan to throw the explosives into the monster's mouth was obviously impossible. Nightingale turned her gaze to a constantly wriggling "flesh sac." Although she didn't know if it was a vital organ of the monster, it was located deeper than the intestines and glowed with magic power. The explosion of the explosives would definitely cause more damage.
Although it was a bit of a gamble, she wouldn't have another chance.
This duel had to be a fatal blow.
The closer she got to the target, the more Nightingale felt its immensity. The intricate intestines alone were as thick as a house, and the other organs piled up like a castle.
However, this castle was alive.
Seeing that the sickle beasts couldn't stop her, the monster moved itself.
Its body shot out countless thin tentacles, trying to block Nightingale's approach. Some tentacles were like steel whips, and their impact could shatter rocks. This attack wasn't too difficult to deal with. As long as she paid attention to the changes in the tentacles' contours in advance and used the "breaks" that appeared at any time to avoid them, she could penetrate the defense line like walking through a wall.
The other type was much trickier. A small number of tentacles contained magic power and could use different abilities. The various colors of magic brilliance were particularly striking in the black and white world. Nightingale didn't want to try to be hit by one to see what it felt like, so she could only dodge as much as possible with Blink, which increased her own magic consumption.
Fortunately, the distance between the two wasn't too great.
After a few leaps, she stepped onto the monster's sturdy body. The latter roared angrily, but because it was afraid of hurting itself, it didn't dare to use its tentacles to attack recklessly. Nightingale suddenly felt the pressure on her body lessened a lot. She opened her backpack without hesitation, took out a box of explosives, and rushed straight towards the flesh sac.
The next movements were almost done in one go – pulling out the fuse, stuffing the smoking explosives and the backpack into the flesh sac, then rotating the Mist World, turning the ground back into the sky, and then kicking her feet hard, the whole person like an arrow from a bow, falling towards the surging underground lake.
The monster also discovered this. It didn't seem to understand why the enemy had gone to great lengths to approach but then did nothing and left. As for the bag, it didn't pose any threat in its eyes. For a moment, it even forgot to chase the witch who was quickly escaping. All the tentacles were stunned in place.
The air without leverage was the most dangerous place in the Mist World. Once she hit the swirling contour lines of the air current when falling, the end would be dismemberment. Therefore, Nightingale cut off the ability and incidentally waved goodbye to the monster overhead.
For some reason, she suddenly thought of Roland at this moment.
When testing gunpowder, he would often turn his back to the test site, and call it the true warrior never looks back at the explosion. Although this would always attract her and Agatha's eye rolls, he enjoyed it, as if completing a ritual that only he knew.
Thinking of this scene, Nightingale couldn't help but raise the corners of her mouth.
But at this moment, she didn't want to imitate the other person's appearance.
It had nothing to do with being a true warrior.
She just wanted to see the monster blown to pieces.
When the sound of the lake water colliding with the dark river was clearly audible, a red light suddenly lit up on the dark ceiling!
In the dark underground, this light was even no less than the dawn. The darkness quickly faded, leaving long shadows behind everything, and the lake surface rippled brilliantly for the first time.
Then came a heart-shaking roar –
In an instant, the entire cave shook!
Nightingale clearly saw that under the brilliant flames, the monster's body contracted violently, as if suffering great pain. Half of the "red moon" covering the dome suddenly disappeared, and some organs shot out like volcanic eruptions. The parts closer to the explosion point directly ignited and emitted billowing smoke.
"Plop!"
Then she fell into the water.
The world was instantly quiet, leaving only the rumbling muffled sound in her chest.
The high-speed rotating water formed a bottomless black hole under her, and the huge suction force was like a giant hand, trying to drag her into the abyss. In the face of such power, any struggle was futile.
Fortunately, Nightingale was prepared.
She released the last bit of magic power and summoned the Mist again. Then, with the help of the swirling white lines, she leaped out of the water like climbing stairs.
At this point, the magic power in her body had been completely exhausted, and the sequelae of overuse of ability began to appear. Severe throbbing and dizziness assaulted her brain, and her limbs trembled uncontrollably, making her almost unable to control her body.
Struggling to climb to the lake shore, Nightingale lost even the strength to move. Before her consciousness dissipated, she saw a worm breaking out of the wall, and then a golden figure rushed towards her.
……
"Nightingale... is she okay?" Fran asked worriedly.
"She's fine, just exhausted her magic power," Agatha roughly checked and handed her to the God's Punishment Witch, "Let you carry her, we will evacuate this place as soon as possible."
After Nightingale insisted on leaving, everyone decided that as long as the explosion sounded, they would rush out to join her regardless of the situation, in case she was surrounded. For this reason, all the dry food was stuffed into Fran's stomach. Although it couldn't guarantee that she could drill a way out, it could at least follow them crawling to the predetermined camp.
As a result, the explosion was surprisingly effective. After the roar, not only did the worm carrier that penetrated the stone wall stop moving, but other evil beasts also fled in all directions.
"Leave it to me," Elena took the unconscious Nightingale in her own hands. After this battle, the survivors of Taqila obviously had more respect for this blonde witch.
"Aren't you going to add a few more?" Lightning looked at the struggling and twisted monster on the ceiling, somewhat unwilling to say, "It looks like it's not completely dead yet."
"A trapped beast is the most dangerous, and you can only bring a box of explosives at most, so don't take the risk," Agatha said in a deep voice, "When the First Army is assembled, it will only have a dead end sooner or later."
"Then... okay," the little girl hesitated for a moment, and finally nodded.
As everyone was preparing to evacuate, the monster suddenly let out a wail. With this dull and turbid sound, the lake suddenly changed.
Under the flickering firelight, a huge skeleton rushed out of the water, opening rows of bone claws towards the ceiling. Even in the turbulent water, it remained stable.
The monster released the tentacles that fixed its body and fell straight down from the dome, landing right in the skeleton. The suddenly sinking skeleton stirred up layers of waves, a large amount of lake water was squeezed to the shore, and even the turbulent dark river temporarily appeared to flow backward. Then the bone claws closed, like ribs, wrapping the monster inside, and then slowly sinking into the lake. The flames burning on its body raised billowing white smoke when it came into contact with the water, and emitted a pungent burnt smell.
At the moment when the other party disappeared, everyone saw the dense eyes on its body - although half of them were gone, the remaining eyes undisguisedly revealed a strong hatred.
Then the swirling lake swallowed the monster's figure, as if it had never appeared.
