Chapter 175 Are all kids like this? Why is your daughter so well-behaved!
Ouyang Lin played a little trick. He said he was inviting Lu Qin’s family of three for a meal, but once they arrived at the private dining room, he immediately pulled Lu Qin to the kitchen to “choose dishes.”
Lu Qin was confused. The restaurant on the sixth floor wasn’t the kind where you picked dishes yourself — it had a set menu. When they reached the kitchen, he realized all the ingredients were already prepared.
Plates and baskets of food had been washed, chopped, and neatly arranged with all kinds of seasonings and spices ready to go. Lu Qin shook his head with a helpless smile. So it wasn’t about choosing dishes, it was about cooking them.
Letting a guest cook for the host — the reason Ouyang Lin, the CEO of Shengyang Group, could get away with such an “impolite” thing was simple: he really wanted to eat Lu Qin’s cooking. But Lu Qin couldn’t really refuse.
For someone with maxed-out cooking skills, whipping up a few dishes was no trouble at all.
“All right, Mr. Ouyang, go wait in the private room. The kitchen’s full of smoke.”
“No need, I’ll give you a hand,” Ouyang Lin said, pretending to roll up his sleeves. But his two assistants had already prepped everything, and he really couldn’t help with anything.
The real reason he stayed was because watching Lu Qin cook was a pleasure in itself. The two young kitchen helpers had never seen Lu Qin before. Seeing he was about the same age as them but was calling the shots, they felt a bit unconvinced.
But since Ouyang Lin gave the order, they had no choice but to obey. Once Lu Qin finished a plate of Twice-Cooked Pork, the two helpers were left stunned. This guy was definitely a professional chef!
His cooking skills were insane. His knife work was top-tier, his techniques incredibly smooth—they couldn’t even compete with a bullet train. The dish was bursting with rich fragrance, making mouths water. Then Lu Qin made another dish—Imperial Concubine Chicken Wings.
By this point, the two assistants were looking at Lu Qin with nothing but admiration. Ouyang Lin started getting restless. It smelled too damn good. If he stayed any longer, he’d drool himself to death, so he returned to the private room.
As he pushed the door open, he saw his daughter crying loudly, looking like she’d suffered a huge grievance.
“Duoduo, what’s wrong?”
Ouyang Duoduo was sobbing, snot bubbles forming, while pointing at Wu Rui. Ouyang Lin pulled his daughter into his arms to comfort her and turned to look at Wu Rui—only to find his wife holding someone else’s child like she was her own!
Ouyang Lin was stunned and glared at Wu Rui.
What, you’re ditching our daughter now? Granted, the other kid was adorable, but she wasn’t theirs!
“Yaoyao, come here,”
Shen Muyan called out.
Lu Xiyao ran over happily.
Wu Rui, realizing her mistake, reached out to comfort her daughter. But Ouyang Duoduo slapped her hand away, crying and muttering, “Bad mommy!”
Duoduo had clearly been a bit spoiled. Despite Ouyang Lin and his wife trying to coax her for over ten minutes, she kept crying. The private room remained noisy with her sobs and screams.
Ouyang Lin looked awkwardly at Shen Muyan. “Sorry, President Shen. What a mess.”
Shen Muyan shook her head.
“It’s okay, kids are like that.”
Ouyang Lin glanced at the well-behaved Lu Xiyao and twitched his lips.
Kids are like that?
Then why is your daughter so obedient?
Shen Muyan leaned down and whispered something in Lu Xiyao’s ear, making the little girl’s eyes light up. She nodded repeatedly. Soon, the waiter came in with two vanilla ice creams.
Lu Xiyao took them and said loudly, “Wow! It’s my favorite — vanilla ice cream!”
Her cheerful tone drowned out Duoduo’s crying.
Duoduo had been crying for a while and was getting tired, but she was stubborn and didn’t want to stop. Now interrupted, she hiccuped and looked over in a daze. She saw Lu Xiyao open one ice cream and start eating happily.
“So yummy~! Mommy, have a bite too!”
Lu Xiyao held the ice cream up.
Shen Muyan took a bite and smiled blissfully, “Mmm, so sweet and cold.”
Duoduo’s eyes turned red with envy.
She usually got whatever she wanted, but that didn’t mean she cherished it. Now seeing another kid eating it made her crave it even more. She ran over and stared longingly at Lu Xiyao. She thought Xiyao would just give her the other ice cream.
But Lu Xiyao ignored her and kept enjoying her own, looking satisfied. Duoduo got anxious, but she wasn’t close with Shen Muyan or Lu Xiyao, so she didn’t dare grab it. She turned to look at her parents with pleading eyes that said, “Duoduo wants ice cream too.”
Ouyang Lin was just about to speak when Shen Muyan waved at Duoduo.
“Duoduo, do you want ice cream?”
Duoduo nodded.
“Yaoyao has another one. Do you want it?”
“Yes!”
“But it’s Yaoyao’s. If you want it, what should you say?”
Duoduo froze for a few seconds and bit her lip. She didn’t know what to say — she hadn’t been taught well. Shen Muyan was sure the Ouyang couple had tried, but clearly hadn’t taught her effectively. Not every kid was like hers—smart and quick to learn.
So Shen Muyan said gently, “Duoduo, you should say, ‘Yaoyao, can I please have one of your ice creams?’”
“Go on, say it nicely.”
She gave Duoduo a light push. Caught off guard and tempted by the treat, Duoduo didn’t throw a tantrum. She trotted over and awkwardly said, “Yaoyao, can I please have one of your ice creams?”
Lu Xiyao licked her own and replied generously, “Sure! Here you go.”
She handed the other one to Duoduo. Duoduo put down her stuffed bear and took the ice cream, trying to unwrap it. Ouyang Lin and Wu Rui finally understood. It wasn’t about coaxing—one well-timed treat and good guidance had solved the whole issue.
Ouyang Lin gave Shen Muyan a grateful look. No wonder Lu Xiyao was so well-behaved. It was all in the way she was raised.
Ouyang Lin quickly added, “Duoduo, what does Daddy always tell you? When someone gives you something, what do you say?”
Duoduo had a little moment of realization and whispered, “Thank you.”
Lu Xiyao nodded while licking her ice cream, “You’re welcome, Duoduo-jiejie. Eat it quickly before it melts.”
Being a level-four ice cream expert, Xiyao noticed Duoduo struggling with the wrapper and offered, “Want me to help?”
Duoduo nodded.
“Yes, thank you.”
Xiyao expertly unwrapped the ice cream and handed it to her.
“Wanna watch cartoons?”
“What kind of cartoons?”
“Conan.”
“Sure, let’s watch.”
And just like that, peace returned to the room. The two little ones sat quietly, eating their ice creams and watching Detective Conan. The Ouyang couple couldn’t help but admire Lu Xiyao more and more. Their daughter was a year older, but clearly far behind in maturity.
Wu Rui was especially envious of Shen Muyan—not only was she stunning, but her daughter was also adorable and clever. Wu Rui looked around and suddenly realized—wait, where was Shen Muyan’s husband? Didn’t Ouyang Lin drag him away to order food?
Why was Ouyang Lin back alone?
She was about to ask when the door opened. Lu Qin walked in wearing an apron, followed by two servers pushing food carts.
Wu Rui froze and exclaimed, “Mr. Lu, why did you go cook?”
