Around the cabin in the woods, an owl called ceaselessly. Because it had rained that day, a thick mist steamed up from the forest floor. Orange light spilled from the cabin, illuminating the slowly roiling fog.

In the wee hours of the morning, someone knocked on Su Xuan’s door. The sound was so faint, as if the person was terrified of being heard.
Su Xuan opened the door to find a beautiful young woman in a nightgown standing in the doorway, giving him a sweet smile. It was Yu Yu.
"Let’s go outside," she whispered. "Everyone is sleeping in here. I’m afraid they’ll see us."
Su Xuan threw on some clothes and quietly led Yu Yu out of the cabin.
"Brother Su Xuan..." Once they were outside, Yu Yu took his hand. "You still haven’t answered my question."
Su Xuan led her toward the trees. "Which question?"
Yu Yu lowered her head, blushing. "I like you. Do you like me?"
"Some things are best left in the heart," Su Xuan said. "Speaking them aloud can ruin a certain atmosphere."
"But I want to hear you say it."
"Let me ask you a question, then. You say you like me, but can you like me for a lifetime?"
"I can! I can like you until the day I die, or the day you die!"
"Oh, you!"
"I have a question for you, too," Yu Yu said. "If I were willing to tear out my own heart to show you how much I like you, would you be willing to tear out yours for me?"
Su Xuan pursed his lips. "That would be very painful, you know!"
As they spoke, they walked into a nearby thicket. Hidden by the trees, it was difficult for anyone to spot them.

The gentle sound of insects nibbling on leaves arose.

But in the next second, her eyes snapped wide open. She saw a dark figure standing behind Su Xuan! The figure violently raised its hand, and with an object that looked like a wooden club, struck the back of Su Xuan’s head.
With a dull THUD, Su Xuan collapsed onto the ground without making a sound.
"Hel—"
Yu Yu opened her mouth to cry for help, but the figure lunged forward and clamped a hand over it.
"Keep quiet if you want to live!" a hoarse voice grated, sending a chill down her spine. "Otherwise, neither you nor your boyfriend will survive!"
Yu Yu nodded obediently. The man bent down, hoisted Su Xuan onto his shoulder, and dragged Yu Yu deeper into the woods.
A few minutes later, they entered another cabin. The space inside was small, its walls covered with tools: iron saws, hammers, sharp knives, and pointed awls. A workbench sat in the middle of the room.
CLATTER!
The man swept the clutter from the workbench onto the floor with one arm and laid Su Xuan upon it. He then forced Yu Yu into a wooden chair and tied her up tightly with a rope.
"What on earth do you want?" Yu Yu’s voice trembled as she stared at the man’s face in the dim light.
His face could hardly be called a face. It was a horrifying mask of what looked like burn scars, ghastly to the extreme.
The man opened his mouth, revealing a set of blackened teeth, and spat out one word: "Revenge!"
Tears streamed down Yu Yu’s face. "We don’t even know you! What revenge are you talking about?"
"The resort demolished my home and gave me barely any compensation," the man said. "I’m going to ruin their business. I’ll make them go bankrupt!"
"But that has nothing to do with us!"
The man sneered. "If I kill you, a death will be reported. No one will dare come to the resort anymore, and they’ll be finished, won’t they?"
Yu Yu drew a sharp, shaky breath.
"So, you tell me," the man said, walking over to the wall and taking down a large knife. "Do I kill you or your boyfriend first?"
"Don’t kill anyone, please?" Yu Yu begged, tears flowing freely.
"No!" the man refused flatly. "I have to kill both of you. No survivors!"
Faced with such a choice, Yu Yu nearly broke down. She glanced at Su Xuan, who lay motionless on the workbench. "Brother Su Xuan... Brother Su Xuan, wake up!"
Su Xuan didn’t move. Seeing this, Yu Yu unexpectedly breathed a sigh of relief and uttered two words: "Kill him."
Silence. The room fell into a dead, shocked silence. The terrifying-looking man seemed stunned by her heartlessness. He didn’t speak for a long moment.
"Heh," he finally chuckled darkly. "So love really can’t withstand the slightest test."
"Uncle," Yu Yu said, suddenly adopting an incredibly cute expression. She batted her large eyes at him. "If you kill him, you’ll let me go, right? I promise I won’t tell anyone about you. I can give you a lot of money! My family is very rich. You can take the money and buy a new home!"
"A good idea!" The man’s eyes lit up. He walked over to Su Xuan and raised the knife high. "I’ll kill him right now, then I’ll wait for you to give me the money!"
"Stop!"
Just then, the wooden door was suddenly thrown open. A blonde girl stood in the doorway.
Yu Yu looked up and saw that it was Alice. She wasn’t surprised by Alice’s arrival, either. Alice must have been secretly watching Su Xuan. That’s why she followed us.
"Sister, please save us!" Yu Yu immediately cried out to Alice for help. "This person wants to kill me and Brother Su Xuan!"
"Okay, don’t be afraid." Alice nodded to Yu Yu, then turned to the knife-wielding attacker. "Put the knife down and let them go. I’ll pretend I never saw you, and I won’t call the police."
"Alright!" The man with the horrific face slowly lowered the knife. Then, his hand shot to his waist, and he drew a dagger. With a flick of his wrist, he hurled it at Alice.
Thankfully, Alice ducked just in time to avoid it, then turned to flee. The man grabbed his knife and charged out after her.
Seconds later, Yu Yu heard Alice’s bloodcurdling scream from outside.
When the man returned, he was dragging a blood-soaked Alice with him...
