Chapter 25: Perfect Actress
DAVINA
I woke up, nestled in the sheets and I felt like a train had run over me. My chest was heavy, and my feet dragged on the floor as I wrapped a thick sheet around my body. However, I stopped in the middle of the room, already noticing that the mansion was unusually loud.
Also, the brothers were not by my side as they were the last people I had seen.
And the next second, a knock resounded on the door, but before I could get it, it flung open.
The maid, the hostile maid who wouldn’t stop looking at me like I was here to steal every single thing from the Alpha family stepped in.
I had stolen the brothers though.
"Aren’t you dressed?" She yelled. "Why the hell is your room so messy and stinky?"
I looked around, and as she said, the bed was untidy and damp, and sure enough, there was a musky smell. I fought hard not to smirk at her, and whine in her face about all that had happened.
But then, I wouldn’t let her keep yelling at me.
"Why can’t it be messy?" I folded my arms, arching a brow at her, "Are you afraid of doing your job? Don’t you want to clean my room?"
She seethed, "You—"
However, sharp footsteps sent her immediately quiet. They were not just sharp, but stumping sounds that sent chills down my body.
My brows creased when I saw two guards at the door, their eyes on me, and the maid quickly stepped to the side.
They got in, and my feet moved, away from the door. There was a slight quiver in my hands as the flash of those dead bodies from last night came to mind.
My eyes darted between them, "What’s going on?"
"Miss Davina, do you happen to have seen the brothers last night?"
"Huh..." I gasped. "What...what do you mean?"
"It was reported you were spotted at midnight, outside the mansion. Can you tell us what you were there to do?"
Their feet carried them toward me, and the air turned tense. I felt a heavy boulder down my chest, and their eyes silently demanded answers I had to give.
But I would be ratting the boys out. No way.
I swallowed, and then a wry smile crossed my lips, "What...what are you saying? You all are scaring me."
"Were you not outside the mansion last night?! Answer the damn question!"
I jumped, with tears already brimming in my eyes.
"I...I don’t know..." I whispered, as I dramatically touched my open arms, and then clutched the sheet around my chest.
"I don’t know what I did. It must have been so embarrassing for me. Did...did I do something to the brothers?"
A bead of tear slowly slipped down my face, with my face a mask of horror.
"Don’t tell me I did something to the brothers?"
The guards tilted their heads, their brows creased and even the maid took a double look at me.
"Are you saying you don’t remember what happened?"
I nodded, wiping my tears, and started to approach them, my fingers outstretched like a helpless lamb.
"Can you tell me instead? I promise, I will apologize—"
"It’s fine!" The guards cut me off. "You were sleepwalking last night and it’s possible you can’t remember. If you do recall something, let us know."
My heart slowly sank in place as they stepped out of the room. The maid stepped forward, her gaze dripping with doubt.
"I must say, you are a really good actress."
"Actress?" I sneered, rolling my eyes.
I had no words for her, as I rushed into the bathroom under her gaze. I slipped my phone in, hurriedly tapping on the screen and wondering if the brothers had said anything.
I couldn’t breathe. The thought that they had been caught made me want to collapse. They killed those guards for me and if something happened to them, I wouldn’t be able to take the guilt.
"Aren’t you coming out?" The maid snapped and I hurriedly put on the shower.
A few minutes later, I was out with my clothes laid out for me. But my mind was churning hard and the walk to school passed in the blink of an eye.
As soon as I stepped into school, I rushed to my classroom, wanting to see Shawn. At least, he should be right there, an indication that they were alright.
But his usual spot was empty.
"Look, the maid is here..." One of the students pointed out.
"Tell us, did you serve your stepfather well, last night?"
I had no time to deal with their taunting words as somehow, I had a stupid hope that Uriel or Ethan would be in their classes.
I turned to leave, but Aria was right behind me. With Hera and Zayne. He had bandages wrapped on his arms and face and not a single ounce of pity crossed my heart for him.
"Leaving already? Can’t stand the heat so early?"
I sighed, reining in the raging emotions in my body.
"I do not have the time for this, Aria." I immediately wanted to push past her, but she jabbed me in the stomach, sending me a few feet away.
I felt a twisting pain down my stomach, straight to my bladder and at that moment, I almost peed my pants.
Another attempt. Another damned attempt to humiliate me. As if the turmoil I was going through wasn’t enough. As if it wasn’t enough that she had put her hands on my mates!
My eyes blazed, different from the usual fury I had toward Aria. This time, it was consuming me and I felt hot blood flowing through my veins with a pumping strength.
"Get the fuck out of the way, you bitch!" I rushed at her, my hand moving before I could stop.
Pak!
A hard slap landed on her face, swinging it to the side and blood drained from her face. She was mortified as her body staggered with only Hera there to catch her.
Even the class had gone silent. I was in disbelief too as for the first time, I had landed a slap on my bully. The shock in her eyes, the pain that coursed through delighted me.
I took a step forward, pointing at her, "Don’t you dare stand in my way again!"
My message was clear, and for now, I didn’t care how she would perceive it. As I walked past her, I couldn’t help the shiver that ran down my spine. The intense burn and the strength I had earlier were now gone with the wind.
And I looked sideways, to see Aria rushing at me.
