Chapter 43: Maria’s Desire

Chapter 43: Maria’s Desire

MARIA

I sat on the hard floor of Diego’s office, holding my stinging face in my palms while tears poured down my swollen cheeks like a waterfall.

I couldn’t stop the tears, as guilt riddled me. Diego wasn’t wrong, I was greedy, thirsty, and ready to sacrifice anything just to be seen again.

But then, I shook my head, affirming to myself, "I am not a bad mother. I just need to do what’s best."

However, I had just sold my daughter to a vile Alpha, for status. The morning I had agreed to the deal, Davina and I had just had a huge fight while she stormed to school.

The words he had said to me, like a threat it unearthed the deep secrets I kept inside.

"The prophecy..." He said, and I was up on my feet, staring at him with wide eyes. "The child you had almost killed you. And her father? He couldn’t even look you in the eye when he realized who she was."

"The crazy wolf," I muttered, as a tear slipped down my face.

Davina robbed me of everything, my marriage and my lover. She almost robbed me of my life at birth and I was saved just in time.

Saved by the Seer I never saw again, not in the Packs or even beyond. I searched day and night, wanting to know why the Goddess had chosen to give me such a child, but I got no answer.

But her words kept ringing in my ears, "She will bring ruin to this world. Your child didn’t kill you at birth, but she will, someday, if you let her become who she is."

Davina was labeled the vessel for a crazy entity, one that was out to kill. I watched her grow with fear, a fear her father also carried and he decided to leave.

I couldn’t let her be who she was going to be. So, I suppressed her every day. I hated her, never showed her love, and hoped she would stay in her cage forever and never turn the knife against me.

But Alpha Diego came with the sweetest offer ever.

"Give me your daughter, and I guarantee, the prophecy won’t come true. You won’t have to worry about getting killed or your daughter turning crazy."

I swallowed, finally coming back to my senses, "How do you know of this prophecy? It was known to my family alone."

He had laughed, the sound dignified and elegant with a handsome face that could bring down the heavens.

"I am the Alpha, I know everything."

I pursed my lips, unable to let the offer go by. This was a chance to let go of my fear and I hoped Davina could be put to good use.

I trusted the Alpha could handle her, but I wanted one thing.

"What’s in it for me? She is my daughter, and I can’t just give her up."

"Anything..." He waved his fingers, elegantly and the light seemed to settle on him.

"Status. That’s what I want. I have suffered enough trying to raise her, I should at least get to enjoy my life."

He agreed in a heartbeat, and soon, we made preparations. The announcement of my marriage to Diego was smooth, no protest but I could see her hesitation.

And the two weeks while I was away with Diego? I wanted to feel him, know him as mine before he would get to be with Davina.

At least, I could have a man to myself for once in long years.

However, she wouldn’t even let me have that! She had to cause trouble and Diego brought us back. Davina was his priority, the walking trophy he wanted.

"Trophy..." I muttered, as more tears strained down my face.

When I saw him run around, trying to find her and even almost going crazy from finding out that his sons had her, I realized I had been stupid.

Why would such a powerful and vile man go after a crazy wolf deemed worthless by her own mother? A wolf that could bring ruin?

I realized the child I had borne was something. Something worth more than gold and the Alpha would do anything to have her.

But I had to keep my end of the deal still, right? The marriage had to continue. I had gotten a taste of that bastard to even let go.

At that moment, the door to the office opened, and he stormed in with his hard gaze on me.

"I need something from you "

I scoffed, "It’s bold of you to think I will help you again."

He closed in on me, crouching and I swallowed. I must say even with the black eye patch on him, he was still as sexy. Dangerously sexy with those long fingers that held my chin and crawled down to my chest.

"Let’s get married." He whispered.

"No..." I hissed, slamming his hands off me. "You need something from me and you think you can swoon me?"

"Of course, I can." He smirked, the slight curve got me enthralled, as it was a perfect smile for his handsome face.

"You want me..." He whispered, as his hand slipped inside my clothes and grabbed my boobs.

"I will grant your desire, just grant mine, one more time."

I swallowed, as I was at a crossroads now. Davina or my marriage? I had to choose.

But then, if I chose my child, we would be too powerless to fight him. He would get Davina by all means. So, why wouldn’t I take what I longed for?

"What do you want?" I asked.

"Anything she values. Anything that has her love, her devotion, and tears."

I knew just the perfect thing to give. An object she would clutch to sleep every night as she cried.

"I want the marriage done immediately otherwise, you are not getting it." I declared, as my gaze narrowed on him.

"Will you do it?"

He nodded, "Of course."

"As long as she gets back to me. I will."
