"Try to make her feel better. The medicine will be here soon."
Qin Ningyi checked the time.
He didn't know why, but after seeing the leader who had been severely injured by Huo Rou in the afternoon, he had an emergency batch of this painkiller sent over.
For some inexplicable reason, it felt as if he had to do it.
"Painkiller?" An'an suddenly looked up and asked.
"Dad, I have one! I have painkillers from Uncle Shen!"
Hearing Shen Wuyou's name, Qin Ningyi hesitated, but An'an had already hurried out.
Soon, a bottle of pills and a pair of slippers were handed to Qin Ningyi.
Qin Ningyi then looked down at his feet, realizing he had rushed out without putting on shoes.
"Take one pill."
An'an pointed at the pills, looking at Qin Ningyi with concern.
But having just discovered that the medicine Shen Wuyou gave Huo Rou contained poison, he dared not let Huo Rou take it just like that.
"Take a look."
However, given Huo Rou's condition, he felt an urge to try anything.
He handed the bottle to the doctor, who opened it to examine it, looking puzzled.
"It looks like Shen family painkillers?"
The doctor was not entirely sure.
He had seen them at a conference once; the appearance and even the subtle scent were the same.
He took out an instrument, placed a pill inside, and performed a quick basic toxicity test.
"The preliminary test shows no issues, Mr. Qin. Do you want a more detailed analysis?"
Since Qin Ningyi had asked him to look, it implied he was unsure. The doctor felt it necessary to ask.
An'an anxiously shook Qin Ningyi's hand, "Dad, Uncle Shen's medicine is fine! Hurry up and give it to Mom, Mom is really suffering."
An'an didn't understand Qin Ningyi's wariness. Shen Wuyou had been with them for so many years, and An'an trusted him implicitly.
Qin Ningyi thought of the diagnostic report and recalled how Huo Rou had gone abroad to save someone, even leaving An'an behind.
He took the medicine bottle back from the doctor.
Huo Rou's lips were already bright red from her unconscious biting.
She, who had never cried out in pain,
was now, in her sleep,
overwhelmed by agony.
As the pill touched Huo Rou's lips, as if sensing someone was trying to feed her,
Huo Rou suddenly threw her head back and tightly pressed her lips together.
"A Rou, take your medicine." Qin Ningyi saw her defensiveness. She had always been prickly, appearing like a delicate flower.
He brought the pill to Huo Rou's lips again, coaxing and comforting her gently. In his patient voice, Huo Rou slowly relaxed.
The doctor's eyes nearly popped out. He watched Qin Ningyi's tenderness and meticulousness, all for the sake of getting someone to take medicine.
This was completely different from the man he had seen before.
An'an bit his lip, watching anxiously from the side.
The pill was finally fed into Huo Rou's mouth. Qin Ningyi breathed a sigh of relief and observed with vigilance.
All the instruments were still buzzing.
But Huo Rou's trembling had eased.
Her brows remained furrowed, and she stubbornly persisted, gritting her teeth.
Just as Huo Rou's clothes were soaked with sweat, a roar was heard from outside. The butler hurried in to report.
"Mr. Qin, a group of people have descended from a helicopter and are asking to see you."
The butler was also startled by the spectacle. A group of people appearing from the sky, while not on a rainbow, was fantastical enough to arrive in the dead of night.
Qin Ningyi's phone rang concurrently.
"Master Qin, the medicine has arrived." The caller said in a businesslike tone.
They had also brought along experts who were knowledgeable in this area.
Following Qin Ningyi's instructions, the butler opened the door to welcome them.
Upon entering the room and facing a multitude of flashing instruments emitting alarms, the medical experts paused.
The doctor recognized one of them. "Dr. Tao?!"
Dr. Tao nodded, tidied himself up, and quickly came over to take over the doctor's work.
He had been at a conference sharing his latest research findings and was approached by these people on his way back to the hotel.
Qin Ningyi, could he refuse?
However, this patient's condition...
He carefully examined the monitoring data, his shock growing with each reading.
"Can she make a sound?" Dr. Tao asked, looking at Huo Rou's sweat-soaked forehead after reviewing the data.
"Yes."
Qin Ningyi nodded. Before taking the painkiller, her muffled groans had pained him deeply.
The painkiller seemed to not only alleviate her pain but also heal him.
Dr. Tao looked at the person on the bed, pale with pain and veins bulging, with astonishment.
A petite, beautiful, and seemingly fragile woman.
To endure such pain without uttering a sound.
"She just took this painkiller. See if it's working?"
Qin Ningyi handed him the bottle of Shen Wuyou's painkiller. Dr. Tao had some dealings with the Shen family and recognized it at a glance.
"Shen's boy is a genius. It's bound to have some effect." Dr. Tao affirmed the medicine's efficacy.
However, he then turned and opened the case Qin Ningyi's people had given him, took out a painkiller from Q Company, and, under Qin Ningyi's worried gaze, prepared to administer it to Huo Rou.
"But that medicine isn't very useful for this situation," Dr. Tao added.
Facing Huo Rou's tightly closed lips, Dr. Tao was at a loss. Qin Ningyi took the medicine and fed it to Huo Rou.
Even in her unconscious state of pain, she could still distinguish the people around her.
Dr. Tao looked at Huo Rou, a flicker of admiration in her eyes.
"It will make her feel much better, but it won't completely cure..."
Dr. Tao looked at the improving data and sighed, omitting the last word as he saw An'an's anxious face.
Qin Ningyi made an excuse to have the butler take An'an outside, then turned to Dr. Tao.
"Didn't this poison put her into a deep sleep? Why is she in so much pain now?"
Speaking of detoxification, Qin Ningyi frowned. This was also why he hadn't dealt with Shen Wuyou immediately.
He was completely bewildered. Why would Shen Wuyou want Huo Rou to fall into a permanent sleep?
Dr. Tao listened to him, looked at the instruments again, and reached out to feel her pulse.
"No." He said with certainty.
His finger moved, then he hesitated again, looking at the instruments once more.
"Not entirely."
Dr. Tao spoke in a low voice, his surprise evident.
Qin Ningyi pondered for a moment. "Two poisons?"
Huo Rou's brow gradually relaxed, and her body stopped trembling. Everything returned to calm.
"Can it be cured?"
Seeing the painkiller take effect, Qin Ningyi slowly sat by the bedside, his gaze fixed on Huo Rou, and asked Dr. Tao.
"It's a bit tricky. May I take a sample to study?"
If for no other reason, alleviating the patient's suffering was his duty.
"As soon as possible." Qin Ningyi stroked Huo Rou's cold face, suppressing his inner turmoil, and said in a deep voice.
The person on the bed trembled her eyelashes.
