Chapter 1016 The Ghastly Demon

A demon with a mouth full of fangs appeared before Zhou Yan. This demon was about five meters tall, twice Zhou Yan's height. Its claws were covered with bone-like scales that gleamed with a chilling light, making it look terrifying.

"A demon? No, what kind of monster is this?" Zhou Yan was puzzled. The demon's appearance was identical to a human's, but its body was semi-transparent, even its cheeks. Zhou Yan could clearly see the demon's facial features, but its eyes were red, looking incredibly eerie.

"If I kill you, I can obtain your power!" the demon said with a grim smile, walking towards Zhou Yan.

"Roar!" Zhou Yan shouted and swung his battle-ax at the demon. Seeing Zhou Yan's attack, the demon showed a surprised expression. "You..." Before the demon could finish, Zhou Yan's battle-ax struck, and the demon's head was directly severed. The demon's corpse fell to the ground, and Zhou Yan sat on the ground, panting heavily.

"Damn it, I almost died here." Zhou Yan looked at the battle-ax in his hand and then put it into his storage ring. Although the demon was strong, it posed no significant threat to Zhou Yan, so he dealt with it swiftly. Zhou Yan looked at the spot next to the demon's corpse where the skull was.

"It seems this is the core area ruled by demons," Zhou Yan murmured. He guessed that these demon soldiers must have come from this core area.

This core area should be the most dangerous place here, Zhou Yan thought. He then walked up to the skeleton. The skeleton was holding a dagger in its hand.

Zhou Yan tentatively reached out and touched the dagger. He found it to be very sharp, but it caused him very little damage. Zhou Yan took the dagger, planning to find other weapons later.

At this moment, Zhou Yan heard footsteps and became alert. However, when he saw a monster emitting black smoke, with a grey body, white back and legs, holding two giant hammers, and a sturdy physique with no flesh on its body, running towards him rapidly.

"Another one coming to be a pushover?" Zhou Yan saw the monster and immediately charged forward, raising his Scarlet Flame Sword and slashing at it. The monster hadn't expected Zhou Yan to dare to provoke it and swung its two large iron hammers at Zhou Yan.

"Bang!"

With a dull thud, Zhou Yan was forced back several steps by the monster's attack, and his palm began to ache faintly.

Seeing that it had managed to push Zhou Yan back, the monster's face showed excitement. "Hahahaha!" It then threw its head back and laughed wildly. Behind the monster, many other demons were also surrounding Zhou Yan.

Zhou Yan gritted his teeth and steadied himself. "Damn it, going all out, huh?"

Zhou Yan looked at his battle-ax and noticed that the Scarlet Flame Sword was also stained with blood, clearly indicating that the demons' blood was poisonous. However, Zhou Yan didn't care at all. After all, the demons' poison was insignificant to him, protected by the Scarlet Flame Sword.

"Come on, I'm not afraid of death!" Zhou Yan roared, holding the Scarlet Flame Sword high. Then he charged towards the demon. At this moment, an intense heat emanated from Zhou Yan's body, and his Scarlet Flame Sword seemed to ignite, engulfing him in scarlet flames.

With a sweeping blow from Zhou Yan, a demon's head was severed and rolled onto the ground.

Zhou Yan was like a phoenix reborn from the ashes, his body charging through the demon army. These demons couldn't get close to Zhou Yan's body at all.

Seeing how fierce Zhou Yan was, the demons turned to flee, but it was too late. Numerous fireballs condensed on Zhou Yan's Scarlet Flame Sword, which flew like cannonballs, blasting the demons away. Zhou Yan leaped onto the head of one of the demons and punched it in the forehead.

"Bang!" The demon's head was directly shattered by Zhou Yan's punch. Zhou Yan fell from the air and landed on the ground.

Zhou Yan got up and looked around. He knew he was safe for the moment, but that didn't mean the place was safe. On the contrary, it was extremely dangerous.

Zhou Yan picked up the scepter dropped by the demon. The scepter was made of brass, with a ruby embedded at the top. The ruby emitted a red glow, and within the ruby, a blue light seemed to be flashing, beckoning to Zhou Yan.

Zhou Yan examined the scepter. Its material was different from the demons' weapons. Zhou Yan noticed a long chain at the tail of the scepter. He pulled the chain and tugged it lightly. Two black grooves appeared on the chain. Zhou Yan inserted the scepter into them and secured the clasp.

"Jingle, jingle, jingle..." Zhou Yan stared at the scepter in his hand, lost in thought. Could this thing really summon demons?

Zhou Yan attempted to recite a spell and put the scepter in his pocket. He felt something was off and examined the scepter closely. To his surprise, Zhou Yan discovered that several bats were carved at the base of the scepter. He committed the patterns of these bats to memory.

Then, Zhou Yan took out the Scarlet Flame Sword. He placed it against his abdomen and recited a spell. Instantly, the Scarlet Flame Sword began to shake violently. Zhou Yan drew out the Scarlet Flame Sword and saw the patterns on it slowly fading.

These patterns were originally golden, but now they had turned black and were accompanied by faint electrical currents.

Zhou Yan swung the Scarlet Flame Sword, and the lightning power from it instantly spread throughout the entire tomb. All the demons turned into ashes.

"Holy crap! How did this happen!" Zhou Yan looked at the changes in the Scarlet Flame Sword in shock. He had just used it to kill a demon, but it had suddenly transformed.

Seeing the change in the Scarlet Flame Sword, Zhou Yan quickly put it away and continued searching within the underground tomb.

Zhou Yan now needed to find a hiding place as soon as possible. This place was not only full of demons but also very damp. Zhou Yan's clothes had already developed holes from corrosion, his lips were chapped, and blood had appeared at the corners of his mouth.

Zhou Yan looked at his left arm and found several black marks on it. These marks were left from the demon attacks. Zhou Yan estimated that the demons' claws must have been venomous, but even so, the demon claws had managed to scratch his skin.

"Damn, they're really vicious!" Zhou Yan cursed. Just as he was about to leave the area.

Suddenly, Zhou Yan felt a sharp pain in his ankle. He looked down and saw a circle of green marks on his ankle. Zhou Yan grabbed his ankle with his left hand and pulled it off forcefully, discovering that his ankle had already exposed bone. He pressed down, and a stream of green fluid spurted out. Zhou Yan quickly dodged.
