The surrounding travelers didn't grasp the full situation. Upon hearing someone was accused of theft, they surrounded Ye Tuantuan, telling her to wait for the police.
The stout woman managed to get up, and her child ran over. The police arrived shortly after and asked what happened. The stout woman immediately insisted Ye Tuantuan had stolen her bracelet.
"She's the one who stole it! I placed it on the sink while washing my hands, and she snatched it when I wasn't looking!" The stout woman's finger almost poked Ye Tuantuan's face.
The young girl remained composed, showing no panic or anger at being falsely accused. She simply smiled, watching the nouveau riche woman's performance.
Conversely, the stout woman was out of breath from her own agitation.
"Auntie, are you finished? Now it's my turn to speak. The situation is this..." Ye Tuantuan recounted the events.
"You can check the surveillance to see if I stole anything. Almost all public places have cameras. You've wronged me by accusing me of theft, and now I'm accusing you of damaging my reputation. You'll be receiving a lawyer's letter," Ye Tuantuan said with a smile.
The police officer was surprised. The girl looked young but was already aware of sending lawyer's letters when slandered.
"Where are your parents?" the officer asked Ye Tuantuan. He didn't really believe the stout woman, as the girl's calm demeanor and bearing didn't suggest someone who would steal.
Instead, the stout woman seemed too prone to causing trouble; he'd encountered many like her.
"They might have already left. I got separated from them a long time ago," Ye Tuantuan replied calmly.
The stout woman was about to shout again when a cold voice cut through the air. Gu Yunting walked over and stated indifferently, "I can confirm everything this girl says is true, and this woman is falsely accusing her."
The man's imposing aura shook everyone present, making them instinctively believe him.
The stout woman paused, then shouted excitedly, "You're talking nonsense! You're in on it with her!"
Gu Yunting shot her a glance, and his bodyguards stepped forward, intending to silence the woman. The woman was indeed intimidated, backing away a couple of steps hesitantly, nervously grabbing her child's hand and falling silent, her eyes darting around.
"I won't argue with you!" The stout woman, pulling her still-crying child, turned and fled.
Ye Tuantuan's icy gaze fixed on the fleeing woman. Did she think she could get away with falsely accusing her? It wouldn't be that easy.
However, Ye Tuantuan had more important matters to attend to. She turned to look at the man who had spoken up for her. As she saw his face clearly, she froze. He looked somewhat familiar, as if she had seen him somewhere before.
Gu Yunting was also looking at Ye Tuantuan. The young girl gave him a sense of familiarity, but he knew it was likely a錯覺 (cuòjué - illusion/delusion). He couldn't possibly know a child only a few years old.
He turned to leave. He wasn't one to meddle in others' affairs. Yet, today, after witnessing her being wronged, he hadn't left and had seen the whole event. He found the situation quite strange.
"Hey, Uncle, don't go. I need to thank you for helping me," Ye Tuantuan immediately chased after him.
The bodyguards tried to block her path, but Ye Tuantuan was nimble and quickly slipped through, reaching Gu Yunting and taking his hand.
The bodyguards gasped at this sight, thinking, "It's over. Our master will surely throw this little girl away and cripple her."
