Ye Wan's body stiffened as she listened to the sounds beside her. She knew Gu Yunting had lain down next to her and her heart involuntarily tightened. But she didn't move, still pretending to be asleep.
Gu Yunting knew she was faking sleep. Even so, having their family of three lying on the same bed made him feel incredibly happy.
Ye Wan had initially thought she wouldn't be able to sleep, but with their daughter beside her and Gu Yunting on the other side, she found herself drifting off to sleep without realizing it.
Ye Tuan Tuan was already sleeping soundly, oblivious to anything. Only Gu Yunting couldn't sleep. He was too happy, too excited, and reluctant to sleep. This moment was incredibly precious to him. Tuan Tuan and Ye Wan were the two most important people in his world.
Now that these two people were by his side, he wished he could stretch this time indefinitely, even praying for time to stop so he could keep these two most important people with him.
In the middle of the night, Gu Yunting couldn't resist getting out of bed and moving to the other side of the bed. He greedily gazed at the girl's delicate and beautiful sleeping face. He raised his hand, wanting to touch her cheek, but his fingers stopped just short of her face, hesitating to descend. He felt as if this were a beautiful dream, and upon waking, everything would vanish. He wouldn't have a daughter, and Ye Wan wouldn't have returned.
Because in the past, he had had countless such beautiful dreams, but every time he touched her face, he would wake up, only to find everything was in vain – she was gone, and there was no daughter.
Finally, he slowly withdrew his hand and simply sat there, gazing at her beautiful sleeping face.
Gu Yunting still couldn't help himself and lowered his head to gently kiss her forehead, like a devout follower worshipping his most precious faith.
Ye Wan had actually woken up long ago. She wasn't dead, and being stared at constantly while sleeping was a terrifying experience. Moreover, she hadn't been sleeping deeply in this unfamiliar setting.
When he kissed her, she almost couldn't hold back, but ultimately decided to continue feigning sleep.
She hadn't expected Gu Yunting to sit there until dawn. Only after he left did she dare to slowly open her eyes, raising her hand to rub her aching forehead with a sense of vexation.
Gu Yunting had gone to arrange for breakfast. He knew the only time he had left to keep Ye Wan with him was for the duration of one breakfast.
His heart ached. Now, besides their daughter, he had no other leverage to make her stay.
After giving instructions to Sun Ma, he went upstairs. He also needed to remove his prosthetic leg and massage it. His leg required daily massage, otherwise, the wound would atrophy, and prolonged wear of the prosthetic would cause pain at the contact points.
But he didn't care about any of that. Such pain meant nothing to him.
Compared to the pain of losing her, his physical pain was utterly insignificant.
However, looking at his own disfigured wound, Gu Yunting suddenly fell into deep contemplation. Before, he had been completely immersed in the joy of her and their daughter's return, but he hadn't considered whether his current damaged self was still worthy of someone as wonderful as her.
Gu Yunting suddenly stopped his actions. Instead of putting on his prosthetic leg, he sat in his wheelchair.
He had always avoided confronting his disability and had never let Ye Wan and their daughter see him in his disabled state. He didn't want to continue like this anymore. He wanted them to know what he was like now.
Therefore, when Gu Yunting pushed his wheelchair into Ye Tuan Tuan's room, Ye Tuan Tuan was shocked. Ye Wan was even more stunned, forgetting what she was doing.
