"I just want you to be well," Gu Yunting said, the words difficult to utter.
"I can't be well without you. You know that... you made me fall in love with you! I can't be well!" Ye Wan shook her head, her face pale.
She had lied to herself for so long, but now she could lie no more. Recently, she hadn't been well, not at all. She felt like a walking dead, suffering every day, teetering on the brink of collapse, constantly being torn apart.
Gu Yunting's heart ached. He was no less tormented. He walked over, embraced her, holding her tightly, and said in a choked voice, "I'm sorry, I love you too."
"You're lying, you're talking nonsense, you're deceiving me! You could never love me. If you loved me, you wouldn't bear to see me so sad!" Ye Wan pushed him away hysterically, shouting, "Leave, just leave! I don't want to see you anymore. If I don't see you, I'll forget I love you! Just go, don't come back again."
Coming back would only push her from one abyss into an even deeper one. What was the point?
She knew she could no longer stop loving him. She had always loved him, but those feelings were deeply buried in her heart. Yet some things, no matter how much you resisted, had already happened. The more you resisted, the more intensely they would erupt.
Not long ago, Ye Wan had even felt she couldn't live without Gu Yunting, because she loved him so much, so much that she would do anything for him.
It was because of the baby in her womb that she had survived.
If she couldn't be with him, having a child with his blood and bone to accompany her, she could still live.
But why, after she had decided to let go, did he keep coming back to provoke her? Saying incomprehensible things. Wasn't he getting married?
"Take good care of yourself." Gu Yunting didn't want to see her in so much pain. He slowly backed away, his hand, which he couldn't open, kept behind his back.
Just as he was about to leave, Ye Wan suddenly spoke, "Are you really getting married? Marrying someone else?"
"I won't," Gu Yunting said hoarsely. He would marry no one but her.
"Can we get back together?" Ye Wan pleaded abjectly, her voice filled with broken pain.
Gu Yunting remained silent. He couldn't answer her question. The antidote, he knew, still existed. His heart had rekindled hope, but what if? What if he couldn't find it? How would she face his departure?
"Ye Wan, give me some time," Gu Yunting said.
"Gu Yunting, are you hurt? What's wrong with your hand?" Ye Wan didn't press him about getting back together, but instead looked at the hand he was always keeping behind his back. It seemed that no matter what, he never let her see his hand.
Even during dinner, he had used his left hand. Though he could still eat, it wasn't as dextrous as his right. At the time, she had just found it strange and hadn't thought much of it, but now, she wondered why he was doing this?
"Just a minor injury, it's nothing," Gu Yunting replied indifferently.
"Let me see." Ye Wan walked towards him.
Gu Yunting dared not let her see his hand. His right hand was now completely deformed, very ugly. The skin had adhered, and he could no longer open it.
"I have other matters to attend to, I'll be going now. You rest well." Gu Yunting quickly left.
Ye Wan watched the closed door, her heart filled with pain. She truly hated this heartless man, but now she wondered, did he have some hidden hardship? What was wrong with his hand?
