Ye Wan's eyes widened as he was pinned to the dining table. The bowl, half-full of noodles, was knocked to the floor. Porcelain shattered, and noodles and soup splattered everywhere. Her face flushed, a deep red from suppressed emotion. His strength was immense; Ye Wan felt as weak and helpless as a kitten in his presence.
From the dining room to the bathroom, and finally to the large bed in the bedroom, Gu Yunting's dominance remained undiminished. Ye Wan could only passively endure, her heart filled with sorrow. She thought he might truly be dying, that he would cease to exist in this world. Ye Wan found this reality utterly unbearable.
In the middle of the night, Ye Wan was wide awake. Gu Yunting had fallen asleep, perhaps from exhaustion, or perhaps due to the poison. He slept unusually deeply.
Ye Wan turned to look at the man behind her, tears streaming down her face uncontrollably. She raised her hand to touch his handsome face and leaned in to gently kiss his tightly pressed thin lips. His lips were cold.
After the kiss, she slowly drew back, gazing at his features in the moonlight. Every part of him was something she cherished deeply. She simply could not accept his disappearance from her world.
Ye Wan slowly got out of bed, carefully and quietly leaving the room. She stood at the doorway for a while, ensuring Gu Yunting was still asleep before she slowly walked downstairs.
She went to a guest room downstairs, carefully locked the door, and then dialed Jin Lan's number.
Jin Lan was on night duty and hadn't slept yet, so he answered the phone quickly. He immediately asked, "Ye Wan, what's wrong?"
"I know everything," Ye Wan's voice was hoarse.
"Know what?" Jin Lan, fearing Ye Wan was trying to trick him, didn't dare say much.
"Gu Yunting is poisoned and doesn't have much time. I had the same poison, and there's only one antidote. He gave it to me and chose to await his death," Ye Wan said calmly. No one knew that her face grew paler with each word she spoke.
"How do you know? Did Brother Ting tell you? Impossible! Could it be..."
"Stop guessing. I met the person who poisoned him. Jin Lan, I am determined to save Gu Yunting," Ye Wan's voice trembled yet was firm.
"I know, and we will do everything to save him too, so don't worry," Jin Lan quickly comforted her.
"I want to know the clues about that antidote. Tell me everything you know," Ye Wan demanded.
"This..." Jin Lan hesitated, feeling troubled. He didn't dare speak, for Brother Ting would surely kill him if he knew.
"Jin Lan, I want to save him! Don't worry, I won't make things difficult for you," Ye Wan's voice grew firmer. "If you don't tell me, I'll investigate myself. I already know the truth. If Gu Yunting dies because of this, I will die with him. Then he would die with regrets, wouldn't he!"
Gu Yunting had kept this from her for so long precisely because he feared she would make such a choice upon learning the truth. He wished for her to never know the truth, even if it meant she hated him, as long as she could live well.
But if she were to die after Gu Yunting, then all his efforts would be in vain. Jin Lan knew this very well.
"Ye Wan, please don't act rashly. I'll tell you everything we've found out now." Jin Lan dared not conceal anything from her any longer and revealed everything he had discovered about the antidote to her.
