He had originally planned to have only one daughter for the rest of his life, but now this huge surprise had fallen into his lap.
"Dr. Jin, you're not dreaming. Your wife is indeed pregnant. Go and see her quickly. She seems to be having a strong reaction. You must take good care of her."
Jin Lan, in a daze, returned to his office. He saw Jian Yi diligently pouring water for her mother. Jiang Yan had lost a lot of weight recently, her face becoming sharper. She was looking at her daughter with affectionate eyes.
"Daddy is back. Daddy, how is Mommy's health?" Because Jian Yi was an orphan, she matured early and was much more sensible than other children, so she was particularly worried about her mother's condition.
Jiang Yan also looked at him, waiting for him to announce the results. Seeing Jin Lan's expression, she asked, "I don't have a terminal illness, do I?"
"Yan Yan, you're pregnant." When Jin Lan said this, the smile on his face could no longer be hidden.
"What are you kidding me? This is impossible! I can't be pregnant." Jiang Yan frowned and glared at him, a little angry. This kind of joke wasn't funny at all.
"It's true. Look for yourself. Here are the results. You're definitely pregnant." Jin Lan showed her the results.
Jiang Yan couldn't understand and said, "I don't believe it. Maybe it's a misdiagnosis. Don't be too happy, or it'll all be for nothing."
After years of suffering, Jiang Yan had completely given up hope of getting pregnant herself. She felt it was impossible for her to have children of her own.
"Why don't you believe it? Look at the '+' sign here. It means you're pregnant!" Jin Lan excitedly pointed at the data on the test report.
Jiang Yan: "..."
She didn't understand.
In any case, she just didn't believe she was pregnant.
So Jin Lan arranged for her to have an ultrasound. The examination revealed it was twins!
Jin Lan was stunned, and Jiang Yan was bewildered. She had longed to be pregnant for years, and now she was pregnant just like that? And twins, no less.
As they left the hospital, the couple remained silent, unsure of what to say. Jian Yi, however, leaned over from the back seat, looking left and right, and asked, "Mommy and Daddy, Mommy is pregnant with a baby now. Shouldn't we be happy? Why are you both so serious?"
Jian Yi was much livelier now, no longer as timid as before, and spoke to her parents with ease.
Jin Lan looked at Jiang Yan, then at Jian Yi, and suddenly smiled. "Jian Yi is right. You're pregnant, and our family will have new members. This is a happy occasion. We should celebrate. What do you want to eat?"
"Let's not go out. Mommy will vomit. Let's cook for Mommy at home," Jian Yi said, concerned about her mother's constant nausea.
"Yes, yes. Look at me. Let's go to the supermarket first. We'll buy some sour things for Mommy. Eating sour food can help with morning sickness. And I'll buy some playdough for Jian Yi. Didn't the school ask you to buy it?"
"I don't want to go. You go by yourself. I just want to sleep right now. I'm so sleepy." Jiang Yan only now realized that her recent symptoms were all due to pregnancy, but she still couldn't accept the reality of being pregnant; it felt so unreal.
"Daddy, you go buy it yourself. I'll go back to take care of Mommy." Jian Yi immediately volunteered.
"Okay, okay. You take care of Mommy, and Daddy will go buy. Jin Lan also felt he had been a bit careless. His wife's pregnancy was not easy, and there could be no mistakes."
