Jin Lan absorbed every word, his heart chilling to the core. Even if he was with Jiang Yan, he had offered Chu Yu sufficient compensation, which Chu Yu had initially accepted. Had he not, Jin Lan would have found other ways to appease him, ensuring Chu Yu was satisfied. Yet, Chu Yu had calmly accepted the exorbitant compensation only to hire someone to kill him. Jin Lan now had to believe in the power of genetics; Chu Yu was not one of the Jin family. The Jin family were upright individuals, incapable of such duplicity. Chu Yu was fundamentally corrupt, rotten, and foul, so one could never expect him to have any integrity or act honorably.
After the three confessed their crimes, Jin Lan ordered the boat to return. Upon their arrival, the trio were immediately taken to the police station, and Jin Lan had already secured evidence of their wrongdoing. He did not personally exact revenge because he felt such individuals were unworthy of soiling his hands. Letting the law bring them to justice was their rightful end.
Jiang Yan was also relieved that Jin Lan had not taken matters into his own hands. While she wouldn't have cared either way, this way he could live more at ease and with a clear conscience. Chu Weixian's heinous deeds would undoubtedly earn him a death sentence. Although Chu Yu had not personally committed murder, his several attempted killings would result in a lengthy prison term. The only one who might receive a lighter sentence was Chu Yu's birth mother. Unfortunately, the woman had gone partially insane and was now delirious daily. Her ultimate fate would be to spend the rest of her life in a mental institution.
With the three villains dealt with, Jin Lan and Jiang Yan personally went to pick up Jin Qing. Jin Qing seemed like a changed person. Her eyes no longer held that sharp, malicious glint, but instead possessed a profound calmness, like a placid lake, gentle and serene, bringing comfort to all who looked upon her.
Jiang Yan had been apprehensive, fearing Jin Qing had not truly changed and would remain the same person who had constantly been harsh towards her. Her palms had been sweating before they met. However, upon seeing Jin Qing, Jiang Yan knew she had undergone a metamorphosis. A person's eyes never lie. Jin Qing now exuded a faint aura of spirituality, capable of calming the mind and soul with just a glance. Now, Jiang Yan finally believed that Jin Qing had truly been under the influence of drugs in previous years, and her true nature was not that way. After all, she was a member of the Jin family.
Jin Qing was somewhat surprised to see Jiang Yan come to pick her up. She had thought Jiang Yan would never be willing to forgive her. "Yan Yan, why are you here? Your health is paramount right now; you shouldn't be traveling," Jin Qing said, walking over to support Jiang Yan's arm with genuine concern.
"Sister, I'm sorry," Jiang Yan cried, seeing Jin Qing's demeanor. She hugged her, tears streaming down her face.
"It is I who should apologize to you, to all of you. I wronged you all," Jin Qing said, her heart filled with complex emotions. She didn't even feel worthy of facing them.
"No, that's not right. You were clearly sick, drugged. Not only did I not realize it, but I also blamed you, hated you, and resented you. I even told Jin Lan to stay away from you. I was too cruel, too wrong," Jiang Yan confessed through her tears, apologizing to Jin Qing. How could such a good person suddenly change so drastically, and yet she never considered why, instead constantly criticizing and even despising her, and urging her only living relative who could save her to stay away.
