During the day, there was nothing much to do, so Ye Wan played with Little Jin Bao. She took it to find the old dog, Lao Bai, at home. Lao Bai was now a truly old dog, walking with some difficulty. Therefore, it spent most of its time lying in its bed, only coming out to eat.
Seeing Ye Wan arrive, Lao Bai looked up at her. Ye Wan placed Little Jin Bao next to Lao Bai and introduced it, "Lao Bai, this is Little Jin Bao. Let it keep you company from now on."
Little Jin Bao wagged its tail incessantly, seemingly trying to appease the old dog.
Lao Bai merely flicked its eyes at it, showing no reaction.
Ye Wan stroked Lao Bai's head and said, "It's still young. If it does anything wrong, criticize it! Don't be polite!"
Lao Bai looked at Ye Wan as if it were speechless, as though it truly understood what she had said.
Little Jin Bao was very fond of Lao Bai, perhaps thinking of it as its mother. It tried to jump on Lao Bai, which, annoyed, got up and pushed it away with its nose. Little Jin Bao rolled its round body far away, looking dazed when it finally got up.
Ye Wan found it somewhat amusing but didn't intervene. Little Jin Bao trotted back to Lao Bai's side, seemingly unaware that it had been rejected.
With Jin Bao keeping Lao Bai company, its old age wouldn't be too boring or lonely.
Ye Wan's phone rang. It was an unfamiliar number. She answered, and Jun Li Chen's voice came through, "Ye Wan, I heard that people who went to the nursing home were injured. How are you?"
"It's none of your business!" Ye Wan hung up the phone, blocked the number, and returned to the villa.
She truly didn't want any further involvement with Jun Li Chen, especially after learning that he was Gu Yun Ting's illegitimate half-brother. This made any further interaction with him impossible.
The Gu family situation was complicated, and she had no desire to get entangled in it.
In the evening, when Gu Yun Ting returned, he was holding a bouquet of flowers and a gift.
If Ye Wan hadn't accidentally helped him with the recent incident, he would have suffered heavy losses, potentially setting him back a decade. Therefore, he had specifically chosen a gift for her.
He didn't see Ye Wan upon his return and asked Sun Ma where she was.
"Little Wan has been with Lao Bai and Jin Bao all day. I'll go and call her back," Sun Ma said with a smile.
"No need, I'll find her." Gu Yun Ting took the flowers and gift to find Ye Wan.
Ye Wan was feeding milk to Jin Bao. The little one was still a puppy and ate voraciously, finishing a bottle of milk in one go. Lao Bai was truly disgusted with it, especially when the little creature made messes and soiled its territory.
If it weren't for Ye Wan, Lao Bai would have surely swatted it away with a paw.
Gu Yun Ting saw Ye Wan holding the puppy and feeding it milk. She sat by the dog bed without any pretense, a gentle smile on her face.
Perhaps, in the future, when she had her own baby, she would be even more gentle than she was now.
Ye Wan heard footsteps and looked up. When she saw Gu Yun Ting approaching with a bouquet of flowers, she blinked and asked, "Are these for me?"
"Yes, and there's a gift too. See if you like it." Gu Yun Ting picked up the Little Jin Bao from her arms and placed it aside, his movements not particularly gentle. Little Jin Bao yelped in annoyance.
"Why are you suddenly giving me a gift? Is something wrong?" Ye Wan looked at him suspiciously and asked.
