Ye Wan thought about what the staff had said: the old man only ate one meal at noon. If no one brought him food today, would he go hungry?
Perhaps she knew too well what it felt like to go hungry. She couldn't bear to watch an old man starve, so she asked the staff for a meal, took an umbrella, and went out of the canteen with the food.
Jiang Yan was playing with the puppy and didn't notice Ye Wan leaving. Ye Wan walked all the way to the single room where the old man lived. His room was the most secluded one, probably visited by few people.
Ye Wan placed the food on the windowsill beside the door and knocked. "Grandpa, are you there? It's the student who came this morning to bring you your meal."
Inside the room, an old man sat listlessly in a rocking chair, looking as if he were about to die. He heard the voice outside and recognized the female student who had insisted on cutting his hair that morning.
"Leave it and go," the old man said coldly.
"Why don't I help you bring it in? It's raining outside, and I'm afraid it might get wet."
"Aren't you annoying? Hurry up and leave! It doesn't matter who sent you; you won't get anything from me!" The old man became agitated, sat up, and shouted angrily.
Ye Wan blinked, feeling incredibly wronged. She hadn't thought about any benefits at all.
"Then I'll leave it on the windowsill. You must eat it. Not eating is very bad for your stomach." Ye Wan said and turned to leave.
The door was suddenly blown open by the wind. Ye Wan peeked in curiously. The room was very dark, and she couldn't see inside clearly.
The old man sitting in the chair was disturbed and glared outside unhappily. He saw the person standing at the door at a glance. The person left after just one look.
"Hua... Hua Hua?" The old man suddenly sat up, almost falling out of his chair. But when he tried to look again, Hua Hua was gone. He blinked hard. Was he hallucinating?
He had seen Hua Hua in her youth. He must be mistaken. The person who knocked was clearly a female student. How could a female student be wearing elderly clothes?
His stomach started to rumble. He got up to get the food. He saw that the tray with the food was covered with a plastic bag. He frowned and took the food inside.
After eating, the old man began to ponder. Was he really hallucinating just now? Or had Hua Hua really come to bring him food?
Jiang Yan saw Ye Wan return, her clothes half-soaked, and asked worriedly, "Where did you go? I asked everyone, and no one knew where you went."
"I went to deliver food to the grandpa who refused to open the door for us. Has the rain gotten heavier?" When Ye Wan left, it was only moderate rain, but now it was heavy.
After everyone had finished eating and looked at the torrential rain outside, they felt a sense of despair. With such heavy rain, they couldn't return to the city at all!
They waited for another two hours, and the rain showed no signs of stopping. The league secretary had to discuss with the dean about everyone staying there for the night.
The dean agreed. Fortunately, the place was large and had spare rooms. The students could squeeze in two per room.
With the sudden heavy rain, the students lost the mood to do anything else and all returned to their assigned rooms to rest.
Ye Wan and Jiang Yan shared a room. They brought the puppies back to their room. They planned to take these puppies home to raise.
She wondered how the mother dog was doing. With such heavy rain, she hoped it was safe. But the hope was slim. If it was safe, it would probably find its way here for help.
