Jin Lan asked nothing, driving the car straight home, taking her upstairs. The apartment was heated, and once inside, Jin Lan took off her down jacket and put it aside.
Jiang Yan had been in a daze all the way, and now she was a little more lucid. Jin Lan pulled her to sit on the sofa and went to pour two cups of warm water, handing one to her.
"What happened?" Jin Lan asked, looking at her slightly flushed face.
Jiang Yan really needed someone to confide in. The more she thought about it, the more wronged she felt, so she choked back tears and told him what had just happened.
"Don't you think I'm too cold-blooded, too inhumane... But why should I? I've borne all the pressure at home, and now I've finally won a house, and my mother still wants me to give her money for tuition and living expenses." Jiang Yan kept wiping away her tears, looking pitiful.
Jin Lan frowned as he listened to her words and said, "You're not wrong! The house cannot be converted to money, nor can it be used to pay for your siblings' expenses. Your family needs a house the most right now. You can't possibly keep renting after your father gets out."
Hearing that he also supported her and didn't call her cold-blooded, Jiang Yan felt a little better.
"Drink some water, take a shower, and get some sleep. Don't think about anything else." Jin Lan felt genuinely distressed seeing her like this, and he even started to hate Jiang Yan's muddled mother.
Jiang Yan drank the water in her cup. Jin Lan pulled her up and pushed her into the bathroom to wash. Jiang Yan was warm now and couldn't help but sneeze. She obediently took off her clothes and took a hot shower, feeling much more comfortable afterward.
When she came out, she smelled food. Jin Lan came out upon hearing the sound and said, "I cooked two bowls of noodles. Just make do with it for now."
Jiang Yan, wrapped in a towel, sheepishly rubbed her slightly itchy nose, thinking how she wanted to die after acting so embarrassingly in front of him.
But she really had nowhere else to go, so she had to brace herself and stay.
"There are clothes over there, go change," Jin Lan pointed to the sofa.
"Oh." Jiang Yan walked over, picked up the pink pajamas, and went back to the bathroom. After getting dressed, she came out.
She came to the dining table, sat down, picked up her chopsticks, and said, "Thank you."
She was hungry, and arguing was exhausting. Crying and negative emotions also consume energy. She lowered her head and began to eat.
"Which universities do your brother and sister attend abroad?" Jin Lan asked.
Jiang Yan thought for a moment and named two schools, saying, "My brother's school is a bit better, but my sister's school is purely a money pit!"
"Didn't your brother ask the family for money?"
"I haven't heard my mother say. He probably didn't. My brother is thrifty." Jiang Yan thought about it. Actually, her brother was a good student, had scholarships, and seemed to work part-time, so he didn't ask for much money from home.
"Well, eat your fill first, then go to sleep." Jin Lan's eyes darkened slightly, and he let her eat first.
After dinner, Jiang Yan wanted to help clean up, but Jin Lan told her not to, telling her to wash up and go to bed.
Jiang Yan hesitated and asked, "Which room should I sleep in?"
Jin Lan paused in his tidying and said, "My room. Where do you want to sleep?"
"Okay." Jiang Yan obediently replied and turned to head to his room.
Jin Lan watched her retreating back, a hint of surprise in his eyes. She actually agreed? He thought she would have scolded him for being shameless like before.
