Chapter 780: 780: Shipping the Wrong Couple?

Chapter 780: Chapter 780: Shipping the Wrong Couple?

Li Junyan teased, “Mom, if you keep talking, Yinyin will get embarrassed.”

With that, he lowered his head and gently pinched Yinyin’s cheek.

Ah, it still feels just as nice.

He suddenly remembered how, when he held Yinyin in his arms as a child, he also loved to pinch her little cheeks.

She would always snuggle meekly in his embrace, motionless.

If it were someone else, the little girl would definitely throw a tantrum, but she never resisted when he pinched her cheeks.

Huo Zijin smiled and stepped back half a step, returning to Huo Linzhou’s side, “Junjun, thank you for taking me to the amusement park last time. Next time, I’ll treat you to a movie.”

Her voice was sweet, and her one call of “Junjun” was delightful to the ears.

Li Junyan’s Adam’s apple bobbed slightly, his voice a bit hoarse, “Sure.”

Rong Yin’s gaze darted between Huo Zijin and Li Junyan, the smile on his face gradually fading.

He wondered if it was just his imagination.

He always felt that Yinyin’s gaze at his brother was different from how she looked at others.

Could it be… she’s fallen for his brother?

Thinking of this, Rong Yin’s mood underwent a subtle transformation.

Maybe Huo Zijin wasn’t aware, but Rong Yin really liked her.

From the moment he laid eyes on her, Rong Yin was drawn to this bright, cheerful girl.

Even though she was always harsh towards him, especially when helping him with homework, she was super strict, yet he couldn’t help but like her tough demeanor.

But…

He felt that she seemed to like his brother more than him.

Rong Yin suddenly felt a sense of crisis.

Just after Huo Linzhou and Huo Zijin left, Rong Yin grabbed Li Junyan’s hand and dashed upstairs, “Brother, I have something to ask you!”

Li Junyan hadn’t yet recovered when Rong Yin dragged him upstairs.

The study room.

Rong Yin gently pushed him through the door, followed closely behind, and locked it with a click.

Li Junyan’s face returned to seriousness, casually adjusting his cufflinks, “What is it?”

Rong Yin asked, “Do you… like Huo Zijin?”

Li Junyan was stunned, his sharp brows raising as he looked at Rong Yin; with just one glance, he immediately saw through the boyish heart’s feelings.

The man nodded slightly, tentatively beginning, “You… like her?”

Rong Yin’s handsome face blushed lightly, turning his head away, sitting at the table, back towards him, pretending to be cool by propping his arms behind his head, “I’m asking you now, don’t try to change the subject!”

After speaking, he looked at the computer screen, observing the subtle changes in Li Junyan’s facial expressions through the screen’s reflection.

Li Junyan gently leaned against the door, a faint smile curving at his lips, “I’ve always seen her as a sister.”

Rong Yin was somewhat surprised but hid his delight within, calmly replied, “Really? I see her… her gaze towards you isn’t quite the same! I thought you two were mutually in love!”

Li Junyan said, “She’s ten years younger than me.”

Rong Yin retorted, “Dad and Mom are ten years apart too, aren’t they together?”

Li Junyan was slightly dazed, “So what do you mean? You like her, afraid I’ll stand in your way?”

Rong Yin spun a chair around, grinning, “If you just see her as a sister, I have no worries then! What was the question you asked me just now?”

He stood up, hands behind his back, walked towards Li Junyan, “You asked if I liked her? I can answer you—”

He smiled, revealing two symmetrical tiger teeth, “I really do like her a lot.”

Li Junyan said, “She seems not to like younger brothers like you.”

Rong Yin, “That’s simple! If she likes mature ones, I’ll act more mature.”

With that, he mimicked Li Junyan’s upright posture.

Li Junyan was amused by him, “Okay, cut it out. Have you finished your homework?”

Rong Yin replied, “Don’t mention it! Today, her brother came with her. You didn’t see Linzhou’s glare at me, like he was ready to eat someone alive.”

Li Junyan, “Be careful, the Huo Family brothers are each more protective over their sister than the last.”

Rong Yin said, “Brother, she has brothers, and so do I! You’ll help me, right?”

With that, he blinked innocently at Li Junyan.

Li Junyan playfully said, “You’re not thinking I’ll help you woo her, are you? You’re still so young, already learning to date like adults.”

Rong Yin defensively argued, “I’m in my second year of high school, already an adult at eighteen. That doesn’t count as early love, right? In ancient times, I’d already be settled with a family.”

“Alright, you have more nonsense than I do, I can’t out-argue you.” Li Junyan paused, suddenly speaking with a deeper meaning, “Anyway, I think—if you really want to chase her, it might not be so easy.”

With that, he casually ruffled Rong Yin’s hair and walked out the door.

The door swung open.

Li Junyan unexpectedly bumped into Li Yufei.

Li Yufei stood awkwardly and looked at him.

Li Junyan asked in surprise, “Mom, why are you standing at the door?”

Li Yufei responded with some embarrassment, “I wanted to ask if you want to eat some peaches. Mrs. Qin just bought a few pounds of peaches this afternoon.”

She felt a bit annoyed internally.

So Junyan has always seen Yinyin as a sister.

Li Yufei’s face immediately showed a disappointed expression. When Junjun and Yinyin were still kids, she was a die-hard fan of their childhood sweetheart pairing, the quintessential mom supporter. Now, overhearing her son’s true thoughts through the door, this old mother felt utterly disheartened.

What surprised her more was…

Rong Yin actually liked Yinyin.

Yinyin was three years older than him.

It reminded her of his father.

Could it be that brotherly protectiveness is inherited?

As Li Yufei was lost in thought, Rong Yin exclaimed angrily, “Mom! Why were you eavesdropping outside the door!”

Li Yufei immediately countered, “I wasn’t! I didn’t! I was just…”

Rong Yin nervously asked, “Did you hear something?”

Li Yufei said, “I didn’t hear anything, I hadn’t even knocked on the door yet.”

Only then did Rong Yin believe her.

Seeing the guilty expression on Rong Yin’s face, Li Yufei couldn’t help but tease, “What secret talk do you and your brother have?”

Rong Yin turned his face away, hiding his flushed cheeks, “Nothing! Don’t ask!”

Li Junyan replied, “Mom, he’s already eighteen, at the age of rebellion, he won’t say anything no matter what you ask.”

After speaking, he added, “You guys chat, I’m going back to my room.”

Li Yufei watched regretfully as Li Junyan retreated to his room, muttering to herself: It’s just a ten-year gap!

Using what Rong Ling said when he pursued her, even if there’s a ten-year difference, after sixty years, one would be ninety-one and the other eighty-one, they’re still just old man and lady, not much of a difference at all.

She still thought the two kids were a perfect match, little did she know, this boy’s feelings were actually so simple!
