Chapter 22: Chapter 22: The Best Friend’s Misunderstanding
But Serena won’t do that.
Elias Lancaster placed Serena Yeats on the bed and spoke softly, "Have a good rest. Want some fruit?"
Serena Yeats nodded.
Nanny Livingston quickly brought the fruit, but she couldn’t eat it, putting it down after just two bites.
"Don’t worry, your friend, Nanny Livingston, will take care of it. You should sleep for a while."
Serena Yeats lay on the bed, smelling the scent on Elias Lancaster, and fell asleep in no time, all her panic and helplessness gone.
Elias Lancaster watched her sleeping face. At twenty, having not even stepped into society, today’s events left her so helpless, and those harsh words were so despairing.
Thinking of this, Elias Lancaster’s anger grew. He desperately wanted to protect her, yet some people insisted on causing trouble.
Nathan Sawyer was in the living room, her eyes constantly glued to the upstairs, wanting to rush up, but the scene she saw today, she found intimidating.
Moreover, Elias Lancaster, she knew a fair bit about him, known as The Living Yama.
But she was afraid Elias Lancaster would do something bad to Serena Yeats, anxiously pacing around.
Just as she decided to go upstairs and check, Elias Lancaster finally came downstairs, seeing her, his expression indifferent.
"She needs to rest now, have a seat."
Nathan Sawyer asked, "So, President Lancaster, what is your relationship with Serena?"
Elias Lancaster’s eyes were deep.
Nathan Sawyer noticed that Elias Lancaster in front of Serena Yeats and now were two completely different people; the one now was the legendary Living Yama.
The rumor was that Elias Lancaster was cold as ice, had a breathtaking appearance, and no one around him could succeed in reaching the top.
No, there was one, like during college days, a girl frequently appeared by his side.
For unknown reasons, that girl went abroad later.
Elias Lancaster did not answer directly.
"She’s been in a bad mood these past days, could you keep her company here?"
Even if he didn’t ask, Nathan Sawyer would find a way to stay.
She just wanted to continue asking the previous question.
Then Elias Lancaster’s phone rang; he got up and went to the study.
Nathan Sawyer watched him leave, saying nothing more.
Once Elias Lancaster entered the study, his expression became even colder.
"Speak."
"President Lancaster, the Yeats family announced in the newspaper their severance from their daughter."
At this time, Serena Yeats woke up, her sleep unsettled, filled with dreams of Mrs. Yeats and Mr. Yeats accusing her of not helping the family, unwilling to accompany Boss Hayes, and the humiliations from those few roommates.
She touched her stomach, thinking that Nathan Sawyer had come over at the time.
Hurriedly going downstairs, she saw Nathan Sawyer in the living room playing with her phone, happily running over to hug her.
"Nathan, I thought you had left."
Nathan Sawyer quickly straightened her posture, "Serena, how did you wake up so fast?"
She looked at her, startled for a moment, "You seem to have gained some weight, and there’s a bit of flesh on you."
Saying that, she reached out to touch Serena Yeats’ waist.
Serena Yeats dodged back; she was most afraid of being tickled.
"Nathan, stop it, hahahaha....."
This sound startled everyone in the villa.
Nanny Livingston was chopping vegetables, and upon hearing such a loud noise, she didn’t even have time to put down the knife, rushing out of the kitchen.
"Young Madam, what’s wrong?"
At the same time, Elias Lancaster, who had just come out of the study and was heading downstairs, quickened his steps upon hearing the noise.
Seeing Serena Yeats pinned under Nathan Sawyer, his expression changed, swiftly pulling Nathan Sawyer up and pushing her aside.
"Don’t press on her."
Nathan Sawyer was taken aback by his shout and, without any defense, was pushed to the ground.
Elias Lancaster anxiously helped Serena Yeats up, "Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?"
Serena Yeats, out of breath, clung to Elias Lancaster’s hand, her smile not yet faded from her face.
"Uncle, I’m fine, I was just playing with Nathan."
Afraid Elias Lancaster would get angry and scare Nathan Sawyer, she hurriedly explained.
Despite this, Nathan Sawyer was still frightened by the cold aura emanating from Elias Lancaster.
An idea formed in Nathan Sawyer’s mind: Could Serena really be kept by someone?
Elias Lancaster’s coldness vanished the moment Serena Yeats’s hand clasped his.
"Really okay?"
Serena Yeats shook her head.
"The child is fine, really!"
Elias Lancaster’s expression darkened, "I wasn’t asking about the child, I was asking about you."
Serena Yeats quickly replied, "I’m fine, nothing’s wrong at all."
At this moment, Elias Lancaster finally relaxed, his expression softened, and he looked at Nathan Sawyer.
"You are the eldest daughter of the Sawyer Family in Sudford." Elias Lancaster asked.
"I am..." Nathan Sawyer shrank her neck, thinking, is he going to bankrupt her family?
In the next moment.
"Serena’s body can’t handle such playing around, be careful from now on."
Nathan Sawyer was dumbfounded.
What happened to Serena? Is she ill?
How could she not know?
She and Serena had been going to school together since middle school. From the first meeting, they became best friends.
All she knew was her parents treated her poorly, making her do a lot of work every day, not feeding her, and beating her if they were upset.
But when did she get sick?
Her eyes turned red, nervously looking at Serena Yeats.
"Serena, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell anywhere?"
Serena Yeats awkwardly smiled.
"No... nothing’s wrong anywhere..."
She didn’t want to lie to her good friend, but she didn’t know how to explain to Nathan Sawyer.
Yet in Nathan Sawyer’s eyes, it was a different story.
Especially seeing Serena Yeats’s unnatural expression, she couldn’t help but scrutinize her.
Following that, her eyes fiercely glared at Elias Lancaster.
Hmph......
Serena’s discomfort must have been caused by this man.
He must have gone too far; Serena is still so young, yet he could do such a thing.
Elias Lancaster, being glared at, directly ignored her.
Nanny Livingston walked over at this moment.
"Young Madam, you’re awake. Let’s wash hands and eat now."
Nanny Livingston, still holding a knife, noticed the tension and tried to ease it.
Serena Yeats nodded, looked at Nanny Livingston, and pointed at the knife in her hand, "Nanny Livingston, that..."
Nanny Livingston realized and quickly hid the knife behind her, "It’s nothing. I was busy and forgot to put it down."
Serena Yeats had a sudden insight.
"I’m hungry, let’s go eat."
She pulled the stunned Nathan Sawyer up from the ground and went towards the dining room together.
Elias Lancaster followed behind; suddenly, his phone rang. He glanced at them, signaling Nanny Livingston to keep an eye on them.
After seeing Nanny Livingston nod in understanding, Elias Lancaster returned to the study.
Nathan Sawyer seized the moment to lean towards Serena Yeats’s ear, whispering, "Serena, are you short of money? I have some; don’t continue doing this. What will you do in the future?"
Serena Yeats felt guilty, lowered her head, thinking about how to say it properly.
But.......
"Serena, is your discomfort because things got too intense in bed? How about.... we go to the hospital for a check-up?"
