Chapter 48: Priestess Yuan: Who Is the Real Fool?

Chapter 48: Priestess Yuan: Who Is the Real Fool?

"Priestess Yuan!" Chief Xie was shocked. It was one thing that her son had gone crazy, but why was Priestess Yuan, who was the epitome of patience and calm, telling her that she should allow Ruan Chanchan to mess around? Don’t tell her that it was not just her son but even Priestess Yuan who was hoodwinked by this woman.

If so, then she was really dangerous!

Chief Xu glared at Ruan Chanchan fiercely.

Ruan Chanchan: "..."

Old hag, I am telling you I am not as polite as you think I am.

Ruan Chanchan was upset. She hadn’t even said a word from start to finish, and yet the woman kept staring and glaring at her as if she had done something really terrible. Who was she glaring at, huh? Did she think that she was a soft persimmon whom Chief Xie could pinch and squeeze as she wanted?

Hearing her thoughts, Xiao Xi opened his mouth to speak, but he was interrupted by Ruan Chanchan, who raised her hand and stopped him just in time. She said to her system, "There is no need for the two of us to hurt each other. You better stay quiet or I will start calling you Dumby instead of Xiao Xi."

"Why would you call me dumby?!" Xiao Xi asked indignantly.

"Because you are dumb and useless."

"How am I dumb!?"

"You are useless because you cannot even protect me, and you are dumb because you can’t provide me with an answer to my current predicament. See? Dumb and useless. I am not being harsh on you at all."

Xiao Xi: "..."

You are being harsher than the desert wind, and yet you dare to say that you are not being harsh at all? At least lie in a manner where your conscience wouldn’t be embarrassed!

Though Xiao Xi was upset, there was nothing that he could do about the current situation. He was indeed a bit useless at the moment because he was still a basic-level system. If he wanted to help Ruan Chanchan, he needed to grow up alongside her; only then would he be able to help her. No, wait.

Xiao Xi suddenly had an epiphany.

If he was useless, then wasn’t it because Ruan Chanchan was not paying attention to her tasks? How come he was being scolded? He should be scolding her instead!

He turned to look at Ruan Chanchan. His courage boosted, but the second he turned to look at Ruan Chanchan, he saw the woman staring at him with a rather scary look in her eyes.

"What?" She asked. Her eyes were still staring at him sideways. Even though the woman didn’t say anything, her attitude was clear: if he dared to say something, she would turn him from a volleyball into a baseball. As much as Xiao Xi would have loved to fight to the death with Ruan Chanchan and tell her that if he was being useless, it was all due to her, Xiao Xi worried about his safety much more.

"Nothing," he squeaked in a rather soft voice. There was nothing that he could say to Ruan Chanchan, especially not after seeing the look in her eyes. Her entire existence was yelling only one single sentence:

If you want to stay alive, stay quiet.

With Xiao Xi turning silent, Ruan Chanchan turned to look at the people in front of her. She wanted to roll her eyes and throw a statement that she had no desire to help anyone, but deep down, very deep down in the pits of her black heart, she had some kindness still left in her. She didn’t want Ah Man to die when saving her life was going to be easier than snapping her finger.

That was the only reason she was staying put, even though she was getting insulted, and oh, the gratitude points. Ruan Chanchan was no sadist. She had listened to enough insults in her past life to make up for the sins that she had committed in the past. There was no need to listen to any more insults!

I don’t believe that my birth in this world was only to listen to curses and insults, right? Ruan Chanchan thought in her mind. Since she was an exception in the matrix, she must be here for some grand thing.

"Calm down, Chief," Priestess Yuan raised her hand and said to the woman, who seemed to be running out of patience.

"But Priestess—"

"Ah, Man is going to die anyway."

Priestess Yuan spoke up; her voice was unusually stern, and her words left an unusual silence in the clearing. Some beast men, women and mers shuffled on their feet, but Priestess Yuan acted as if she couldn’t see it. She raised her eyebrows slightly before saying to Chief Xie, "The journey to the Beast Temple is more than a month away from here. Not to mention, our tribe is neither powerful nor mighty in the eyes of the guardians. They might not even pay attention to you, even if Ah Man survives till then. Which will be nothing less than a miracle."

"Your son is willing to give Ruan Chanchan a try because he believes that she can help Ah Man when no one can. Why not try it? At least, we won’t have what-ifs filling our heads once Ah Man passes. What if Ruan Chanchan can really help her?"

"But how—"

"Why can’t she?" Priestess Yuan questioned calmly. "Because she is a fool? But who says that fools cannot do anything? If they are determined, they can even move mountains. Don’t look down on someone just because you are better than them in something. I admit that the girl is a bit childish, but she has never done anything to harm anyone."

"If anything, others had never left a chance to harm her, just because she couldn’t say what was happening to her. Tell me, Chief. Who here is the real fool? Her or the ones who think that just because she can’t tell anything, they can hide their sins even from the Beast Goddess?"
