Chapter 1558: Chapter 1558: There’s No Worst, Only Worse
“Dan Hanjie… Dan Hanjie…”
Qin Youxuan called out twice, but the phone only responded with a solid beep of a busy tone.
Qin Youxuan raised her head, and saw two cars had completely sandwiched his vehicle. If both sides started firing at the same time, there was no way he could dodge.
The mere thought of that possibility sent a shiver down Qin Youxuan’s spine.
She pressed down on the accelerator to chase after them while quickly dialing Yao’s number.
Before the person on the other end could speak, Qin Youxuan had already shouted out in agitation.
“Yao, hurry! Dan Hanjie is being hunted down—he’s on the street just outside the Dan Group headquarters, heading southwest! They’ve got guns!”
Ending the call, Qin Youxuan gripped the steering wheel with both hands, forcing herself to calm down.
She sped up to catch up.
A flash of thought ran through her mind, prompting her to grab her bag, fishing out the gun Dan Hanjie had previously given her for self-defense, and clutching it tightly.
Her face was drained of any trace of color from anxiety.
With her right hand gripping the compact Browning handgun firmly, she drove her car directly toward one of the black cars attacking Dan Hanjie.
Lowering the car window, she aimed at one of the vehicle’s tires.
Three… two… one…
“Bang—”
Qin Youxuan pulled the trigger after aiming.
A loud sound of a tire bursting followed, and one of the cars lost control, crashing into the roadside guardrail.
“Cat, duck!”
Dan Hanjie’s furious shout came from ahead, carrying an undeniable urgency.
“Bang, Bang, Bang—”
Qin Youxuan’s action had drawn the attention of the other car, and a succession of gunshots echoed near her ears.
She couldn’t tell whether the shots were fired by Dan Hanjie or his pursuers.
“Screech—”
Qin Youxuan stepped on the accelerator abruptly, causing her car to halt on the spot.
She buried her head tightly against the steering wheel.
Several seconds passed before she slowly lifted her head.
White dots scattered across the windshield caught her eye, and she let out a long breath of relief.
As soon as she saw Dan Hanjie’s car speeding away into the distance, she immediately started the engine and raced after him.
The remaining car seemed desperate, accelerating faster and faster.
Dan Hanjie’s car sped up as well, and the two vehicles were chasing each other intensely, soon leaving Qin Youxuan behind.
Dan Hanjie’s sharp gaze stayed fixed on the rearview mirror. Only when he realized Qin Youxuan’s car was no longer visible did he allow himself a slight sense of relief.
He moved closer to the window, and as the other car approached, he quickly pulled the trigger.
“Bang—”
A muffled sound erupted. The car was moving too fast, causing the bullet to miss its exact target and strike the car door instead.
The attackers fired back simultaneously.
Gunfire exchanged back and forth as the cars remained locked in a fierce pursuit.
Looking ahead, Dan Hanjie realized they were already approaching the city outskirts.
Traffic was sparse on these roads. Dan Hanjie turned his vehicle sharply, choosing a winding path and speeding through.
As he skimmed past the bend, one hand remained on the steering wheel while the other aimed.
From an almost impossible angle, he fired toward the driver of the pursuing vehicle and landed a direct hit to the forehead.
After the muffled gunshot, the driver slumped over the steering wheel, followed by the terrified cries of the other passengers and the deafening crash of the car ramming into the guardrail.
Both of the relentless pursuers were taken out.
“Seeking death!”
Dan Hanjie narrowed his dangerously sharp eyes. Just as he was about to turn around and head back to find Qin Youxuan, something suddenly felt off.
His right foot pressed down hard on the brake, but instead of slowing, the car accelerated even further.
His brakes had failed.
Dan Hanjie’s gaze darkened, and his grip on the steering wheel tightened.
Behind him, Qin Youxuan finally managed to catch up, only to see Dan Hanjie’s car speeding off even faster into the distance.
