Inside the Xihong Zoo, under the curious gaze of a crowd of tourists, Director Yang Lin swaggered in through the main gate, leading a silver fox riding on a golden retriever.
Upon seeing this, the tourists in the park immediately cast curious glances.
“What a bizarre combination, dog riding dog?”
“The one on top isn't a dog, it's too thin, it should be a cat.”
“Cats don't have faces like that.”
“We can just ask the director.”
…
Amidst the curious gazes of the tourists, a female tourist bravely approached Yang Lin.
“Director, what kind of animal is on the golden retriever’s back?”
Hearing this question, Yang Lin immediately stopped and looked back at the wary silver fox and golden retriever brothers who were closely following him.
“This is a silver fox, I brought it in from outside. This time, I’ve brought them to see the situation inside our Xihong Zoo.”
“If it’s suitable, they will also become a part of Xihong Zoo in the future.”
“What, animals have to be inspected before entering the zoo?” After Yang Lin's explanation, all the tourists showed a hint of surprise.
“Of course, otherwise would I do something like kidnapping animals?”
Yang Lin said with a look of self-evidence.
He then explained to the tourists about the upcoming expansion of Xihong Zoo and the situation of the adjacent wasteland.
“Considering that subsequent construction might affect the survival of these animals, I must relocate these original residents first.”
“If they wish to stay in Xihong Zoo, they can be provided with suitable accommodation. If they don't want to stay, I will take them to the wild and release them.”
Hearing this, the eyes of the tourists present immediately changed.
They had no idea things were like this.
Expanding the zoo also involved solving the issues of demolition and resettlement for the animals in the wasteland.
“I can see it now, the director is truly considering these animals.”
“So there are so many small animals living in the wasteland next door. The director is accumulating great virtue with this move.”
“Very thoughtful. It’s indeed not easy for these small animals surviving in the cracks of the city. I highly commend the director’s actions.”
“Xihong Zoo is expanding again? But that’s good, there will be more animals joining in the future.”
“Director, if you need any help, I can’t help much with the big money, but I can help organize a donation drive.”
“Yes, Director, good deeds shouldn’t be done by you alone.”
…
In an instant, Yang Lin's image in everyone's minds became grand.
Facing everyone’s good intentions, Yang Lin just smiled gently.
“This is all as it should be. This matter is not only beneficial to the animals but also a great thing for us.”
“Being able to give these animals a home in the city is like leaving behind a legacy for our descendants.”
After speaking, Yang Lin, under the admiring gaze of the tourists, led the two little animals deeper into the park.
After he had toured the entire park with the two little guys, the silver fox, which had initially harbored doubts about Yang Lin, immediately changed its expression.
It had also escaped from a zoo before and knew perfectly well what the situation was like for animals in zoos.
However, the current state of the animals in Xihong Zoo was something it had never seen before.
The animals here were more lazy than the last, some sleeping, some bullying tourists.
What's more, the tourists seemed quite happy even when being bullied by the animals.
All the animals in the zoo were in a state of extreme relaxation, with lustrous fur and plump bodies, clearly well-fed.
“Is this really a zoo?”
Just as the silver fox was full of shock, Yang Lin asked it again:
“How is it, our place is quite good, isn't it?”
“When the time comes, I will build a zoo like this for you too. All the animals from your place can live inside.”
“No need to be frightened, no need to worry about food. As for those tourists, you can completely pretend they don't exist.”
It had to be said that when the silver fox heard Yang Lin's invitation again, it was already somewhat moved.
Winter was approaching, and their current habitat was clearly not suitable for them to survive the winter.
Basically, every winter, a large number of small animals failed to survive.
Thinking of their companions who had starved or frozen to death, the silver fox immediately made a decision.
“I agree on behalf of the other animals, but you must guarantee that the place will still be ours then.”
“Alright, I will definitely give you an even better home then.” Saying this, Yang Lin extended his right hand towards the silver fox.
He had intended to shake hands with the little guy.
But the little guy clearly misunderstood and directly licked him with its tongue.
The golden retriever beneath it also followed suit.
Yang Lin couldn't help but show a wry smile.
Seeing that the demolition matters had been settled, and in order to complete the zoo expansion as soon as possible, Yang Lin decided to bring the small animals over that very day.
Anyway, the animals inside were all relatively small, so it was fine for them to squeeze in temporarily within the park.
After making the decision, Yang Lin quickly formulated a relocation plan in his mind.
The wasteland was adjacent to Xihong Zoo, and the distance was not far.
A door could be opened on the west wall of Xihong Zoo, and the two locations would be directly connected.
Then the animals could simply walk over.
“It’s decided then. While it's still daytime, let's open a hole in the wall first.”
As he spoke, Yang Lin led the two little guys to the west wall of Xihong Zoo.
Calling it a wall was merely a red brick wall that was decades old.
In any ordinary zoo, the animals could easily climb out.
But for Xihong Zoo, it was more than enough. The old, weak, sick, and disabled animals couldn't climb over before, and the current animals had even less intention of doing so.
Just as Yang Lin was preparing to smash the wall, the tourists in the zoo quickly noticed his actions.
They inevitably gathered around curiously.
Before anyone could figure out what Yang Lin was about to do, Yang Lin picked up a large sledgehammer from the tool shed and started smashing the wall.
“Eighty, eighty!”
With Yang Lin's shouts, this wall, older than him, was immediately smashed into a large hole.
As soon as the hole appeared, the silver fox immediately rode the golden retriever and ran out.
This scene instantly made the already bewildered tourists even more confused.
However, in order to understand Yang Lin's purpose, they decided to watch for a while longer.
But as they watched, their eyes gradually changed.
Following their gaze, they saw a group of tiny figures on the other side of the large hole, led by the silver fox and the golden retriever, galloping towards Xihong Zoo.
