Squid Who Loves Diving

Chapter 348: Acting the Whole Act

Two hours later, a light truck riddled with bullet holes drove from the Zhao Family Manor towards First City.

Sitting in the driver's seat was a man with shaggy black hair and a stubbly beard. He had a cigarette made of rolled leaves hanging from his mouth, his body swaying slightly, looking quite relaxed.

Jiang Baimian glanced sideways at Shang Jianyao, using her eyes to ask if this was their target.

Previously, many people had passed by, but none of them matched Zhao Shouxin's memories of a "suspicious person."

Shang Jianyao nodded in response.

Then, he mouthed a name:

"Shen Kui."

This man was called Shen Kui. In one part of Zhao Shouxin's memory, he was a familiar face, but in another part, his image was mixed with that of someone else, and some details seemed to suggest he didn't even exist.

Unsurprisingly, Jiang Baimian didn't understand Shang Jianyao's lip movements, but all she needed was the "nod."

Having received confirmation, she turned to Genaver, held up three fingers, and signaled to take action.

Genaver, crouching behind a tree, suddenly darted out.

Immediately after, he used the metal joints in his legs to propel himself into the air, landing on the hood of the light truck.

Shen Kui, still sucking on his crude cigarette, caught a glimpse of this scene from the corner of his eye, and his mind immediately tensed up.

Without bothering to identify the sudden figure, or what its characteristics were, a cruel smile appeared on his lips. His right foot pressed down, flooring the accelerator.

He had been trained that if he encountered such a situation, he should never brake. It was always best and safest to just crash straight through, no matter what.

With a roar, the light truck's speed suddenly increased.

This caused Genaver, who was supposed to land on the hood according to plan, to crash directly into the windshield.

Seeing this, Jiang Baimian couldn't help but cover her face.

She wasn't worried about Genaver, but felt sorry for Shen Kui, who was driving.

Amidst the sounds of shattering glass, Shen Kui was first showered with shards of the windshield, some of which pierced his skin. Then, he was struck in the chest by a heavy and fast-moving steel object, and fainted without a sound.

Several of his ribs were broken.

A normal person would lower their speed or steer away if they saw an "iron ball" flying towards their windshield, in order to avoid injury. But he directly accelerated, as if trying to see who was harder and could withstand the impact better.

The end result was obvious. How could an egg possibly beat a stone?

With a squeal, the light truck skidded to a stop after a short distance, barely managing to avoid overturning.

This was because Genaver had tried to control the steering wheel from inside the driver's seat and kicked away the foot that was pressing on the accelerator.

As soon as the light truck came to a stop, the intelligent robot opened the door and got out, "complaining" to Jiang Baimian and Shang Jianyao, who were approaching quickly, while examining himself:

"Doesn't he know that this could cause a car accident?

"I'll have to get a new paint job later."

"Carbon-based humans have their moments of brain farts," Shang Jianyao explained sincerely.

Jiang Baimian looked at Shen Kui, who was slumped in the driver's seat, and said with some concern:

"Don't tell me he's dead."

"I controlled my posture and avoided vital areas." Genaver was very confident about this.

In that kind of situation, it wouldn't be strange for the driver to have his head smashed by the "iron ball".

At this moment, Jiang Baimian carefully pulled Shen Kui out and laid him on the dirt by the side of the road.

"Only a few broken bones..." Genaver immediately played the role of a medical examination device.

Whew, Jiang Baimian breathed a sigh of relief and turned to Shang Jianyao.

"No electrical signals from large creatures within fifty meters."

She wasn't afraid of accidentally killing someone. Every fewer believer of the "Anti-Intellect Faction" would raise the average IQ of all humanity. Moreover, this wasn't an ordinary believer who had been bewitched or deceived, but a grassroots member who directly participated in actions and held a certain role. She was just afraid that they wouldn't have time to obtain "information," and then they would have to wait for a while.

"No human consciousness either." Shang Jianyao took out the night-luminescent pearl that was radiating a cyan-green light.

When dealing with someone who was unconscious, "Fate Connection" was more useful than "Reasoning Clown".

As the cyan-green light suddenly brightened, Long Yuehong saw Shang Jianyao's eyes become empty, his gaze no longer focused.

The next second, Shen Kui, who was unconscious, opened his eyes.

He raised his hands and began to grope his body, saying with an excited expression:

"If the target loses consciousness, I can still manipulate him to do things."

In the past, Di Marco could forcefully control the target's body regardless of whether the target had lost consciousness or not, but he would be subject to some interference and resistance.

Seeing Shen Kui's stubbly face full of excitement, and his hands constantly groping his own body, Long Yuehong felt inexplicably absurd and couldn't help saying:

"Hurry up and look through his memories. You look like a pervert like this."

The legendary narcissist.

Bai Chen nodded in agreement.

"He's not very strong..." "Shen Kui's" voice gradually lowered, becoming silent.

After a while, he opened his mouth and said:

"He is indeed a member of the 'Anti-Intellect Faction,' arranged to enter the Zhao Family Manor to control it...

"He hasn't seen the real 'Father' or other high-level members. There's no similar figure in his memory. His key memories may have been modified...

"He follows the orders of the black-clothed man next to Zhao Yixue. That person is called Meng Gang. He should be an Awakened, showing the ability of 'hypnosis'..."

As he spoke, "Shen Kui" rummaged through his pockets and found a few randomly folded pieces of paper from his coat pocket.

After he unfolded them, Jiang Baimian and the others saw the contents:

"Thinking is pie, knowledge is poison...

"Letting go of thinking allows you to stay away from Unintentional Ding...

"Spreading knowledge will surely bring Unintentional Ding..."

"This is so confusing to read, it's like a spell," Jiang Baimian said with amusement.

She then said:

"With these leaflets, plus the 'confession,' we can report to Councilor Zhao and confirm that the 'Anti-Intellect Faction' is acting.

"Old Ge, take a picture of the leaflets, keep a copy for the record.

"Hey, you can come back, save some of the 'Fate Pearl's' energy."

"Fate Pearl" was the name she gave to that night-luminescent pearl.

It couldn't be recharged, unless Di Marco was resurrected, or a "Mind Corridor" level expert with the same ability provided help.

"Shen Kui" nodded reluctantly.

His eyes quickly closed, and Shang Jianyao's eyes began to move.

The brightness of the night-luminescent pearl also returned to normal.

"Shall we go?" Genaver asked.

Before Jiang Baimian could speak, Long Yuehong hesitated and said:

"I think, shouldn't we act out the whole scene?"

Clap, clap, clap, Shang Jianyao applauded.

"Yes." Jiang Baimian nodded thoughtfully.

Bai Chen said objectively:

"Our current role is the investigation team hired by Councilor Zhao, we definitely don't want to expose ourselves."

"Then wake him up." Jiang Baimian pointed to Shen Kui on the ground.

"I'll do it." Genaver was eager to test the new module he had loaded in Redstone Collection - the stun gun.

A moment later, Shen Kui woke up trembling, seeing four faces in front of him and a silver-black robot standing beside them.

"What's wrong with you, how are you driving?" Bai Chen issued a condemning voice on behalf of the entire group. "You don't even know how to brake or steer when you encounter someone on the road, do you want to kill us? Fortunately, the first one walking was a robot, it's not a big deal, otherwise you can forget about leaving alive today!"

Long Yuehong was stunned on the sidelines, because Bai Chen had no traces of acting at all, as if this was something she was very good at.

Hmm, she was originally a Wasteland Wanderer, and mainly did business, so she must often have disputes with people... In a moment, Long Yuehong found an explanation.

Shen Kui was very confused by the scolding. He wanted to say something back, but the pain in his chest bones and the reality of being outnumbered made him lower his head and only muttered:

"It's the one that didn't walk properly and jumped on my car."

"It's a frog-type robot, is it annoying you that it likes to jump around?" Jiang Baimian opened her eyes and started talking nonsense.

Shen Kui weighed it again and again, and said with a smile:

"How do you want to solve this?"

"It always needs a new paint job, right?" Bai Chen put forward this side's request.

In the end, they "extorted" a full 50 ore of activity expenses from Shen Kui, the "Anti-Intellect Faction".

Watching them disappear into the woods, Shen Kui touched his pocket to confirm that the few pieces of paper were still there.

"Bad luck!" He slowly moved back to the light truck, preparing to go back and find someone to treat his injuries.

Inside the forest, Long Yuehong looked back at the highway area and said with amusement:

"The IQ of ordinary believers of the 'Anti-Intellect Faction' is really not very high..."

"If we could make money from them every time, I wouldn't be willing to crack down on them." Jiang Baimian said with a smile.

Shang Jianyao strongly agreed.

...

Around seven o'clock in the evening, the "Old Task Force" had dinner and checked into the rental house on Iron Medal Street in the Green Olive District.

"We'll sleep here tonight, there are only two beds, everyone squeeze together." Jiang Baimian looked around and said.

Then, she smiled:

"Me and Little White!"

This rental house was very small, only able to fit a bunk bed and a set of tables and chairs.

"I can rest sitting down." Genaver said that this was not a problem.

Shang Jianyao and Long Yuehong looked at each other with disgust at the same time, without saying much.

While the others were chatting, Jiang Baimian drafted a telegram based on the afternoon's harvest, preparing to send it to Zhao Zhengqi tomorrow morning.

Suddenly, from the port area outside, came the sound of a wolf howling.

It dragged on for a long time, like the wail of a beast, both desolate and strange.

"What's going on?" Jiang Baimian turned to Bai Chen.

Bai Chen simply repeated what she had told Long Yuehong before:

"Ashlander prostitutes, they don't understand the language, so they can only rely on simulating wolf howls to attract customers.

"This should be a symbol of sex in First City."

As an outsider, she was not so sure about the latter half of the sentence, she had only heard someone mention it and remembered it.

Before Jiang Baimian could say anything, Shang Jianyao had already stood up with a swish, and said with a normal expression:

"I'll go take a look."
