Chapter 1065: Chapter 16: Can This Score Be Settled Once and for All?
8:15 PM.
Yang Jian glanced at his watch, opened his notebook, and wrote a line.
“I am an inconsequential person…”
As the pen paused, the sound of a car engine roared outside almost simultaneously.
Moments later, gunshots echoed within the mansion, and the terrified screams that followed abruptly ceased.
Uniform footsteps approached the entrance.
The intricately carved wooden door was violently kicked open, and a group of soldiers, clad in military coats and masked, stormed in menacingly.
The young officer leading them glanced at Yang Mocheng, who sat motionless on the sofa. After confirming with a photograph, he wordlessly raised his pistol and pulled the trigger at his head.
A single gunshot, brain matter splattered.
“Who are you?”
The young officer turned his head, his cold gaze landing on Yang Jian.
“A guest.”
Yang Jian calmly replied.
“A guest?”
The young officer was clearly skeptical but didn’t detect any issues. After a moment’s thought, he took out another photo and asked, “Have you seen this person?”
Yang Jian looked at the photo of himself and slowly shook his head.
“I don’t know him, never seen him.”
“Strange.”
The young officer frowned: “Where did this kid go? Search the place again!”
“May I ask your name, officer?”
“No need for formalities, I’m Liu.”
Blurting it out instinctively, the young officer suddenly sensed something was strange, frowned, and asked, “What’s your name? What’s your identity?”
But at this moment, Yang Jian’s gaze had already fallen on his notebook in hand.
“Liu Zhimao?”
“Yes.”
“Diving Society? What kind of organization is that?”
“Temporary Number 104, Direct Command of the Navy Headquarters’ Deep Water Special Squad.”
The young officer’s forehead slightly perspired, entirely unaware why he was confessing military secrets truthfully.
“What mission were you assigned by your superiors?”
“To deal with Yang Jian and his entourage, and execute Yang Mocheng.”
“What’s the reason?”
“No reason needed to execute someone from the Yang Family.”
Yang Jian shook his head, chuckling.
Even after sixty years, the ancestral sins remained unpaid.
“Understandable, but if you’re still enforcing private justice, aren’t you turning the new government’s laws into empty words? The peaceful era the President struggled for can’t develop like this.”
“Could you please go back and tell your marshal that the Chamber of Commerce’s return is a national policy of the President? Please don’t let personal grudges overshadow the bigger picture. Being someone of advanced age, why hold grudges with us young ones… Do you have the list of Yang Family personnel?”
“Yes.”
Taking the roster from the young officer’s hand, Yang Jian skimmed through it, then struck a line with his pen.
“No need to draw it out with a slow death; finish it if you’re going to do it. These lives are your marshal’s resolution. Any further grievance would be impolite.”
……
That night, Wang Yunxiao slept soundly, undisturbed by dreams.
The minor incident while choosing a wedding dress did not stress him mentally at all.
Primarily because he did not believe he had any involvement with the Yang Family.
But in the morning, just as he dressed, not even having breakfast, the Navy people came looking for him.
In the car, seeing the stern, unsmiling stranger officer, Wang Yunxiao couldn’t help but inquire, “What’s going on?”
“Don’t ask. We’ll talk when we arrive.”
Fine…
The car sped along the road, the destination not being the Navy Compound but another base.
The Navy had two bases in Tianmen, one being the Navy Headquarters, commonly known as the Navy Compound, where Wang Yunxiao previously stayed for recovery.
The other is the North Navy’s shipyard and docking port, also known as Naval Base No. 2.
Following the stranger officer deep into a building without any markers at Base No. 2, Wang Yunxiao immediately sensed something was off.
“Comrade Wang Yunxiao, please take a seat.”
The stranger officer took him into an office, pulling a stack of photos from a file folder.
“Do you recognize this person?”
“Met him once yesterday.”
Wang Yunxiao looked at the photo of Yang Jian, puzzled.
“Did something happen to him?”
Couldn’t be, we barely exchanged words, I just found him disagreeable. If something happened to him, why suspect me?
What do I look like in your eyes?
“Nothing happened to him; it’s our people who are in trouble. How much do you know about the Yang Family?”
“Just what everyone commonly hears about, does that count as understanding?”
“If you’ve heard of it, that’s good. Let me explain. After the Yang Family’s extermination, their branches scattered, seeking individual fortunes. Only the direct line of the Yang family fled overseas and thrived —this Yang Jian is of the direct line, and also the Red Incense Master of the Four Seas Commerce Guild’s Zhongyi Hall.”
“Red Incense Master?”
“In past Jianghu gangs, this was akin to a hall elder of the punishment department. Zhongyi Hall has Red, White, and Green divisions. Red presides over punishments, White over personnel, and Green over rites. This Yang Jian is a high-ranking figure in charge of eliminating internal and external threats in the Four Seas Commerce Guild.”
The officer explained quietly, “Yang Jian came to Tianmen, partly for the Cheng and Yang family marriage alliance, paving the way for the Chamber’s headquarters to relocate. Meanwhile, he activated many embedded operatives here in Tianmen, intending to control the situation.”
Uh…
Wang Yunxiao still didn’t understand why he was being told this.
“Are you implying I should take him out?”
“Our men tried that but failed.”
The officer shook his head, “We underestimated his strength: he played our entire special operations team as if they were toys. Not only did they fail to kill him, but it unraveled a mess, leading to numerous penalties.”
Wang Yunxiao, puzzled, asked, “If he’s as complicated as you say, shouldn’t this be dealt with by the Special Service Bureau?”
That’s their area of expertise, after all, brother.
“He’s a Yang.”
Alright, never mind.
Involving the Yang name isn’t business; it’s a personal vendetta.
It’s like the warlord who notoriously raided the Empress Dowager’s tomb, when criticized, defended himself, saying his ancestors fought against the Qing dynasty —it’s national and family hatred.
But that was merely a claim.
Regarding the Yang Family’s blood feud, the Old Tianmen People have heard that story enough to their ears are calloused over the decades.
“Yang Jian survived, but the entire Tianmen Yang Family of fifty-four did not.”
“Our people pulled the trigger.”
Wang Yunxiao sat upright, inhaling sharply.
This escalated hugely.
“What’s the statement?”
“There’s no statement. Punishing without explanation, that’s the most troublesome part.”
The officer sighed, “You’re from the Special Service Bureau with abundant experience, I hope you can assist us in investigating this case.”
