Chapter 1566: Mystery Letter?
Kalfene wasn’t sure what this was about. However, he had a fairly good memory.
Although his workspace was a bit chaotic, it was more of an organized chaos kind of thing so he knew how many were stolen and what was there that wasn’t supposed to be there fairly quickly.
It was a rolled piece of paper, too. After Otto’s disappearance, the good quality paper and pens had become scarce, and the families had sent investigators to determine where it was from.
There was not much lack in that area. However, there had been a mass import of an inferior version from Papel Town since before, and people just settled with that. It was far from the quality they were used to, but it was a decent alternative.
This mysterious roll of paper, in contrast, was a lot like what Otto used to sell in his specialty store.
Anyway, when he unfurled it and read its contents, he almost dropped it.
/Come to the Sephon-Vesto Family wedding in a few days! We can get you that Dwarf god you’ve been hoping to meet. Be sure to bring all you can offer!!/
Kalfene shook.
Seeing his reaction, Kahonn looked over his shoulder and read the letter, too. "What is it?" he asked, curious. "Do you have something going on with people from those families?"
"No..."
It had nothing to do with either of those two families at all.
’Dwarf god’ was not taken literally. It was an inside joke he had with Otto to refer to a place that would excite his brain.
At the time, he wondered when he’d get past making aether letter after aether letter, which was something he was growing bored with.
It was one of his only inheritances and he did gain a bit of money from it, but the routine of such high-concentration work was still exhausting.
Then Otto lent him a text about something dwarves had done before. They didn’t know much about dwarf technology, but even the minor ones were quite useful in wars.
"I’ll just pray to their dwarf god for inspiration," Kalfene had mumbled at a time, and only Otto had been there.
At this, Kalfene’s eyes sparkled, feeling excited.
He knew they were alright!!
That said, what did the letter mean? He should attend the wedding and...bring everything he had?
His heart beat in excitement again, eyes sparkling. He wasn’t sure how this would go, but anything was better than the current situation!
He was brought back to the present by a callous, chubby palm waving in front of his face. "Helloooo."
He looked at Kahonn, wondering. Should he tell him? Or would it endanger them instead?
In the end, he just looked at him, patting his cousin’s shoulder with a creepy smile on his face.
"Want to go to a wedding with me?"
"???"
...
While these things were going on, the two noble houses of Sephon and Roach were bustling with activity in preparation for the wedding.
The wedding would be held in the Sephon family’s Grand Hall. In Bleulle, it was common for the groom’s family to hold the ceremony—it was to show off the strength of the family the daughter was marrying into.
While the halls were busy decorating with various ornaments, one of the rooms had a peculiar meeting going on.
There were a few of them around a table. They had snacks, alcohol, and so on. However, there was something on the table that was a bit uncommon. It was a powder being exchanged between the attendees.
"It really was good, it made me feel good," one said, looking at the groom-to-be. "Young Master, please give me some more."
This was Leccher, the well-known profilgate son of the Roach Family. He was also Liaroa’s half-brother and the family’s heir.
The other man smirked and put a few more dabs in front of him. Leccher sniffed and looked at the source.
"Where did you even get this, young master?" someone asked Eveco, respectfully but also very curious.
"When I was on a mission to the West, I was entertained by the Town Lord there," he said. "They had a bit of this. Said it came from further North."
"Didn’t you worry it was poison?"
"He uses it himself. Rather, I had seen him and his brother use it, so I demanded to get some," Eveco said, looking proud about this.
"Did you get more?"
"Of course," he said. "Though it depends on how much I’d share." He was smug, and even got more smug when these bastards started pandering to him more than before.
Before, they were pandering to him because of his family name. Now, this was his own achievement.
While the rest of his party investigated the clues about the Golds. He investigated where the powder was from. He found it was from Northern territories, but a caravan brought them down in bulk.
"And I’m sharing a bit with you guys today."
"You’re so kind."
"True friend."
Eveco grinned, leaning forward. "About that thing we were talking about..."
This made the other flinch, but they nodded.
"Yes, yes, of course we’ll support you," one said, his eyes on the powder. The others nodded just as vehemently.
At this, Leccher smiled, feeling like he also accomplished the same things. Eveco was, after all, his future brother-in-law. "Yes, when you’re married to my sister, you can have your own household and lead it," he said. "And we will support your growth."
"Good, good," Eveco sneered, liking that things were going to plan.
The bruises on his body were still hurting from the beating that he experienced.
After that humiliating meeting with the Lord, his cousin Ewan and a few others pulled him to the dungeon and beat him up for hours!
Until now, although he didn’t show it, his body was still bruised and in agony. The reason he could take on more was because of the drugs, which muted the pain!
Anyway, he will never forget that humiliation! Did they really think he’d just take it lying down like he did when he was being tortured? HEH!
Maybe... maybe, with more support and alliances, their second branch would lead the family soon!
