San Tian Liang Jiao
Chapter 377 Mountain Villa
With limited information, Feng Bujue clearly felt strained during the conversation, as he knew nothing about the time period or location of this scenario. He also couldn't reveal anything about himself, such as his birthday, address, or whether he had any relatives—the most basic information.
Fortunately, Brother Jue was quite resourceful. Not long after the conversation began, he said, "I might have suffered a minor concussion in the car accident. My memory seems to be a bit affected."
With that as a foundation, he could simply reply, "Sorry, I don't remember," and then clutch his forehead as if in pain whenever he was stumped by a question.
Thus, during this not-so-long journey, the only information Feng Bujue divulged was his name, gender, and occupation. On the other hand, he managed to extract a considerable amount of information from Dennis and his wife…
Firstly, the scenario was set in 1985, in a small European country called "Asathali," which sounded fictional.
Secondly, Dennis Lovecraft, who exuded the aura of a rich and handsome man, was a businessman mainly dealing in industrial pipes. His wife, Carol, although now using her husband's surname, seemed to have a very distinguished background, even higher than her husband's, judging from their conversation.
This alone gave Feng Bujue much to speculate… A handsome and tall man marrying a not-so-pretty woman with a strong background. In detective novels, this setup often leads to a high probability of murder. For example, the man has a mistress, or is planning to swallow the woman's assets before finding one… all compelling motives for murder.
In addition, after observing their expressions, Feng Bujue noticed that the couple seemed uneasy about the prospects of this trip. It seemed that the so-called "family gathering" was not a simple meeting of relatives and friends; there must be more to it…
"Look, we're here," Dennis's voice pulled Feng Bujue back from his thoughts.
After the car drove around a corner, a mountain villa came into Feng Bujue's view.
The road ahead split into a fork, leading directly to the driveway in front of the villa. Dennis drove in and stopped in front of the villa gate. He didn't get out but honked the horn twice.
Soon, a man in traditional black tails came out to open the door. This man looked to be about sixty years old, his hair already gray, but his hairstyle was still meticulous, and he stood ramrod straight.
"Oh! It's young master Dennis, welcome back!" The man said, and greeted them.
"We were slightly delayed on the road. Are you well, Henderson?" Dennis replied.
"Don't worry, young master, my old bones are still strong," Henderson said, as he arrived at the car and opened the door for the lady. "Hello, Miss Carol."
"Thank you, Henderson," Carol said as she got out of the car.
Dennis had also gotten out of the car at this time and happened to see Henderson looking at Feng Bujue with a questioning gaze.
"Oh, let me introduce you," Dennis said. "This is the butler, Mr. Henderson… This… is Mr. Feng Bujue."
"Hello."
"Pleased to meet you."
Feng Bujue greeted the other man politely.
"Mr. Feng encountered an accident on the mountain road. His car and luggage are lost, but fortunately, he's unharmed," Dennis explained. "If it's convenient, please have Oliver (the maid) prepare a guest room and a set of clean, fitting clothes for him."
"Yes, young master, I'll take care of it right away." Henderson replied, already taking two large suitcases from the trunk of the car. He wheezed and turned back toward the house.
"You're really going out of your way for me, Mr. Lovecraft," Feng Bujue said politely on the surface, but in his mind, he was thinking: Two middle-aged people watch an old man carry such heavy luggage without any expression, as if it were commonplace… Could this also become a potential motive for murder…?
"Not at all. Now that you're here, you're a guest," Dennis replied. "This is the proper way to treat guests."
As they were talking, a short man in a white shirt and suspenders came out. This man was in his early forties, with a full beard and a ruddy face, looking very energetic. "Young master Dennis, Butler Henderson asked me to park the car in the garage for you."
"Okay, sure." Dennis casually handed the car keys to the man and turned to Feng Bujue. "Oh, this is Barton, the gardener." He paused and continued, "Please come into the house with me, Mr. Feng."
Feng Bujue responded and followed Dennis and his wife into the villa.
[Current mission completed, main mission updated] The system prompt sounded at this moment, but Feng Bujue was not in a hurry to check the menu.
After entering the house, he naturally observed the surroundings first. The hall on the first floor was very spacious, the furniture was arranged in an orderly manner, and the wallpaper and furnishings were mostly in cold colors, seemingly hinting at the owner's personality. Above was an oak ceiling, incredibly high; below was also a wooden floor, covered with a gold-threaded carpet with intricate patterns. The windows were made of Venetian glass, and the window frames were painted in a cyan-gray color. Looking ahead, seven or eight meters away were the stairs leading to the second floor.
At this moment, a beautiful woman was slowly descending the stairs.
She looked to be at most thirty years old, wearing a green low-cut dress. She had a charming appearance, skin as white as snow, and a voluptuous bust that seemed ready to burst forth, while her waist was slender enough to be grasped in one hand.
"Dennis, Carol," the beautiful woman greeted Dennis and his wife with enthusiasm. "Oh! How are you?" She walked over and gave the two of them a ritualistic hug.
"Oh, Odette, it's so good to see you," Carol replied.
Her words were appropriate, and her tone was convincing, but Feng Bujue didn't see a trace of happiness in her eyes.
Dennis said calmly, "How is Father's health?"
Odette's expression immediately dimmed a lot. "Uh… well… let Doctor Powell tell you about it later." She seemed to want to change the subject, so her gaze naturally fell on Feng Bujue and she asked, "And this is…"
Dennis briefly told Odette about Feng Bujue's situation. It is worth noting his choice of words when introducing Odette to Feng Bujue—"My father's third wife."
