Chapter 224: A day in the life of (2)

"Chief, it’s been several days since we’ve seen you!"

"The kids have been asking for you to teach them about how to summon golems."

"Right, and you promised that you would help us with our death knight training."

The moment that I came out of my research room, I was bombarded by the people that had been waiting outside.

It had been several days since I came out, but I didn’t expect them to be in such a state. After all, I had already told them that there was something special that I wanted to research, which was why I was locking myself up.

The moment that I came out, it seemed like they were treating me as if I had been missing for several years.

"Ke, ke, everyone give the chief some room. I’m sure that he’ll want to have some food and rest first before he does anything else."

Tucker, who was the one that took care of the village white I was gone, gave a reminder to everyone to calm down.

But even though he did this, I could see from the way that he looked at me that there was something that he wanted as well.

Even though I was a lich and didn’t need food or sleep, they treated me like I was a human like them.

In the end, I just said, "Bring me to see the kids first then. I’ll give them a lecture on golems."

The kids who had been waiting on the side excitedly came over when they heard this. They had no fear at all as they took my hands and dragged me away while saying all kinds of different things.

These were the kids that we had saved from the villages that we destroyed, the ones that we had taken in as recruits for future necromancers. However, they didn’t act the way that normal necromancers would.

With the way that they acted, they seemed like any normal kid that would be found in a random village.

They didn’t seem like kids that had been rescued from traffickers or kids that had been trained as necromancers.

But it wasn’t as if this was a bad thing.

This was just the kind of village this was and it was good to see them acting this way.

There was a part of me that had forgotten about this.

Even though I could feel this kind of thing by sharing senses with any of the other avatars, it was different experiencing it for myself.

I had to admit that I had isolated myself for quite some time now after becoming a lich. Other than interacting with the undead, there really weren’t that many people that I had been interacting with.

And interacting with the undead wasn’t the best kind of interaction possible since there wasn’t much that the undead could say.

So even if I was being dragged around by these kids, it wasn’t as if it was the worst thing.

...

"So the budget will be set as this."

"Then the next item up to discuss will be the matter of the building budget."

"I think that we should allocate a bit more to building the new houses."

Sitting here in this budget meeting was boring, but I had no choice but to sit here since I was the chief of this town.

As such, I had to sit here and listen as they discussed everything that was going to happen with our town.

Still, it was a good thing that we were able to hold this meeting.

The fact that we could hold this meeting meant that this town was peaceful enough to hold this meeting.

During this time, everyone had been worried about the threat of the Iron Fist Gang.

But that threat disappeared after what had happened to the Iron Fist Gang’s town.

This was something that the other powers blamed the Iron Fist Gang for and put pressure on them. It was even more so since the large explosion of mana made people think that there was an important treasure that had been hiding in that town.

With this much pressure on them, it wasn’t as if the Iron Fist Gang was able to do anything.

So the threat of the Iron Fist Gang was temporarily relieved.

It wasn’t as if the threat was gone forever, but the people of the town were tough enough to act like everything was fine.

This was just a part of living in the wilderness, there was no telling when one would be in danger, so they got used to it. If they were safe today, then that was enough for them.

Still, I was happy to see that people under me were doing well.

Though the next topic wasn’t one that I wanted to hear.

"The necromancers still seem to be active."

Once they heard this, everyone couldn’t help knitting their brows.

The matter of the necromancers had spread quite far.

These were the stories of the evil necromancers that had been attacking villages all over the wilderness.

No one knew the truth of the matter since the ones that were behind the traffickers in the village were manipulating the stories. The kids that were banished by the necromancers were even helping them with these stories.

In the wilderness, even children weren’t immune to the money that they offered.

It was just that after a while, these children disappeared.

No one really cared about them since they moved on from their stories, but it was a clear sign that this place really was a dog eat dog world.

With a sigh, I said, "We don’t need to worry about that. There’s no telling what tomorrow will bring and it’s useless to worry about necromancers that might come. For now, let’s think about how to make our town better."

Everyone nodded in agreement when they heard this before they went back to discussing the budget.

I watched all of this with a sigh.

For now, let’s just enjoy the peace.
